For the Overpasses:

The Overpass hight for the Puzzle pieces is set to 15m. Use the hole digger lots on the STEX to make a sunken highway that's exactly 15 meters deep and it will look good =)

I-10 through most of Phoenix as well as parts of I-17 are sunken. Its cheaper to build road bridges than it is to build hiway bridges would be my first guess as to why they did it that way. Plus the added reduction in noise levels in the neighboring residential areas.

Actually, most cities don't have full sunken highways, but only slightly below grade, the reason (in real life, and SC4) is because it makes easier overpasses and onramps without much reconstruction of the surronding terrain.

on the topic of highways, does anyone find the on/off-ramps for highways in SC4 to be really awful?? I can't understand why it creates a ramp with a two sided street attached to it.

I live outside of Columbus, OH and parts of I-670 downtown seem to be sunken, especially near the High Street Cap.

Also, parts of I-71 are sunken from around Broad Street to where it raises at Spring Street.

I'm not sure if these actually count as sunken, but around downtown they're at least lowered and lined with walls.

Strange you wouldn't have any...

I live in Detroit, and our Highways are only like that.

The edges are more sloping, though, than European ones.

Well I live an hour west of detroit and south of lansing and all of detroits are like that. And I know that many people have mentioned that. But if you notice sunken highways are only in large dense and citys. So really I think when they install sunken highways I think they take of less room. And if you notice in detroit they are tons and tons of overpasses. I think thats another reason why theres are like that is because when they are sunken they can place tons more overpasses compared to when its a ground highway or even a elevated. Also theres sunken highways in lansing too. Just though you would like my 2 cents worth. Even though I think this has all been said before....

the other consideration is noise pollution..an elevated system or ground level system will project the noise in of the vehicles in all directions. With a sunken system the noise is projected up and away from the surrounding area

here in ottawa, canada we have a bus only sunken stretch of our transit system...though expensive this was the only way local residence would allow the stretch of the transitway to pass through there residential areas....the result is less noise and from groundlevel no eyesores...

montreal has an extensive highway system that is below grade..seen below4a2d0b419d2e4736b05e1777c052b8cd_prefResquote>

Hehe you live in Ottawa? Cool. Yeah have you rode the Enviro that OC Transpo is testing?

Anyway back on topic. Sunken Highways are pretty cool because they don't ruin the view that much as a standard level highway does.
