Why is everything white?

Hey folks! 1.gif

I'm having a problem that is a bit baffling.

My residential and commercial zones are being built with white grounds... This being hard to explain, here's a pic...

Georgianna Pic

Any modd or BAT that I've downloaded, I've made sure that I downloaded all of the dependancies (if any) and they are all placed in their own subfolders in the My Documents\SimCity4\.... folder.

Has anyone ever had this problem? I noticed it when I was doing the tutorial, but figured it was just something that might happen because the tutorial has ready-made examples, so I threw this together to see what would happen. Lo and behold, everything is being built on 'snow'.

Win XP(sp2)

1gig RAM

1.6 ghz

SC4 Deluxe (w/RushHour) and I have installed the update from the website.

Not sure what else you need to know. Before I go through the business of individually removing and 're-installing' all my plugins, I was wondering if maybe someone has had this happen, and if there was an easier way out.

Thank you very much for any help anyone may be able to give me.

Peace

RD

You haven't added any terrain mods since starting the city, have you?

It looks like you have downloaded a "Snow Mod." I had one a few months ago and the ground looked similar to the ground in your city. Try using your computer's search tool in both plugins folders for the word "snow" and see what the results are. If the search finds a snow mod and you don't want it, delete it and the ground should return to normal once you reload your cities.

I'd have to agree with Sim1234, it looks to me like you have a snow mod, particularly Peg's mod to make the default buildings look like it had snowed as part of his Mountain Theme Pack

Wow!! I didn't expect to hear anything this quickly!! 6.gif

callagrafx - Nope. I haven't added anything since starting the city.

sim1234 - I just checked. I have a whole 'snow capped' section. 21.gif I just deleted them, but I have to log off to run SC as all these windows I have open are surely hogging my memory. I'll be back shortly to report.

Thanks for the lightning quick responses!!

edit: Fred_Ginger  - Sorry. I didn't see yours until after I hit the reply. Thanks a lot!!

The Snow cap should not do that, just add snow to the textures, not only to lot's but also to the unused ground.

Hmmm... strange why the rest of the area isn't white too, if it's a snowcapped mod.

Maybe his game is just racist?

I got rid of the snow plugins, now I can't even load a city. Not even the tutorials after I've reset them. Something tells me that was it, but I won't know until I uninstall and re-install the game and the plugins. After that happened, I'd rather start with a fresh install. I'd hate to get a real city going and have something go wrong.

I'll report back later to let you guys know what happened.

    Thanks again!! 44.gif

Excuse me? I'm sorry, I'm new here, so I don't know the posting habits of anyone yet. Was that a joke? 42.gif

By the way, the folder also had a few terrain .dat files as well. The folder itself was just named snow capped.

If reinstalling doesn't fix it, it might be your graphics hardware. Try running the game using software emulation (it's in the display options) to see if the problem goes away. If it does, try to figure out what's wrong with your hardware. If that still doesn't fix it, you must be making racist cities.

Well, I've un/re-installed SC4D. There's no doubt in my mind that the snow plugs were the culprit, and I thank everyone who helped. This time, instead of going plugin wild, I just went through the NDEX list of plugins (awesome stuff there!!) and set those up. While they surely had everything I could ever want in a city, I'll probably go through it all one at a time (BSC is next).

Just a little update to close out the thread.

Time to go drool at some more CJs.

    Peace

personally i try to keep away from mods in general because they always have a nasty habit of screwing up your city just when you dont want them too.
