The World's tallest Residential Building is located in Melbourne, Australia.

The Tower is called the Eureka Tower

Nonda Katsalidis:

is the founding director of award winning architectural design firm Fender Katsalidis and who is one of the three developers.

Daniel Grollo:

Is another developer of the famous Eureka Tower.

Daniel Grollo was also a planer for his own building called The Grollo Tower, it was first proposed to reach 630m, and would have been the worlds tallest tower, when it was discussed in 1997, bu they decided it would have been too tall so they made it to 560m high, but it never happened because Melbourne is still a small city with buildings less than 300m tall that was until the Eureka Tower.

Here was the pictures of the plans made.

Info:

Construction started began in August 2001.

The summit section of the tower is covered in real gold, which captures the sun's rays as it crosses the sky each day.

The Eureka Tower is 92 stories high.

There is 560 apartments.

The foyer is clad out of Italian marble and designer furniture

Here are some pictures of the Eureka Tower:

I live in Melbourne, Australia and seriously when you look at Eureka Tower now, it is massive. (If only you could get it as a BAT). Apparently Eureka Tower when it is built, will NOT be the world's tallest residential, because The Q1, on the Gold Coast (also in Australia) is the tallest residential, only because of the spire. Eureka Tower however wants to keep its claim to fame, so Eureka has decided to build itself a spire (which from artist's impressions looks ugly). Anyhow, I hope you enjoyed reading this and yes Eureka is a beautiful giant in the Melbourne skyline, but how I wish the spire would change and how I wish the building had lights on during the night!

I have been following Eureka's construction over at Skyscrapercity. It is a great looking building in my opinion. This (to big to post) is a great shot of Eureka taken by a member of Skyscrapercity by the name of Mugley (thanks Mugley!). The latest (1/5/06) (d/m/y!) posts at Skyscrapercity about & showing pics of Eureka's construction can be found here (don't now if you have to be registered to view?)

About it being the world's tallest residential building, Q1 on the Gold Coast is taller (pictures can be seen here, also on Skyscrapercity!). Though I don't know if they have both been officially measured yet. But even if a spire is added (hope not!) to Eureka, I don't think it will officially be considered the tallest residential building because it won't change the architectural appearance of the building (think Sears Tower in Chicago). Also, several residentila buildings around the world should surpass them both in the coming years. But to me it doesn't matter all that much. Eureka is great even if it isn't the tallest!

Isaac, from Australia!

Just read the original post again. Found that out, lol. I am from Manchester and we are constructing a 156m high residential building (the largest in Europe), however that is nothing compared to this 15.gif

az_uclan: Sorry to burst your bubble but London, yeah lol. It has a 219m 69 floor one proposed and a 214 story tower starting construction, still this does not compare to melbournes tho.

Going a while back; van1357 is right, at the present Q1 on the Gold Coast, Australia is the tallest residential tower in the world and currently the tallest in Australia. I was recently in Surfers Paradise (Gold Coast) on a holiday: I live in Perth, Western Australia. I went up to the 77th floor on one of the fastest elevators in the world (40sec to get to the top) to the observation deck, let me tell you; thats an amazing view! Personally from what i have seen Q1 is far more visually pleasing than Eureka Tower in Melbourne.

The design of Q1 is based on the Sydney 2000 Olympic Torch which istself is based on the 'sails' of the Sydney Harbour Opera House.

I got some good pictures but i havn't downloaded them of my camera yet 15.gif

Has anyone started or is planning to do Q1 for the STEX, it would be great!

I also noticed that there are no regions of the Gold Coast or Surfers Paradise in the STEX, could anyone help me?

Thanks

Just to let you know ILL Tonkso, those new towers in London will not top the Eurkea Tower's height of 300m and 91 floors. The observation deck is to be open by the end of the year IIRC and I would love to own an apartment in the tower.

Also, if anyone is batting this fantastic building at the moment, and releases it, I might just start up my Melbourne CJ again along with my new speedy computer.

I've been to Melbourne quite a few times over the years, and personally I think that such a tall scraper stuck out where it is is going to look rather silly for quite a while until some more scrapers pop up around it.

I prefer my city of Adelaide, we might not have scrapers, but at least we weren't settled by convicts!

Q1 is the tallest residential tower in the world. Just like Petronis Towers are taller than Seers. Eureka is taller is storeys high, etc. but Q1 is tallest to architechtual height. And yes Q1 will be surpassed by buildings in Dubai in the coming years, but I can proudly say that Q1 was at least, for some time the tallest residential building in the world. I of course, live on the Gold Coast, and have been to the top of the spectacular Q1. And the view from the world's only beachside observation deck is spectacular. From the top you feel like you are in the ocean.

On a Q1 BAT... I would love for that to happen.

Gold Coast map... was goin to do one myself, and I gave up when people started complining about large amounsts of maps on the stex.

And Q1's lifts aren't the fastest in the world. That record goes to Taipai 101.
