It's probably because the games eating up so much RAM & the proccesor is being used to the max.

What proccesor do you have, I have an AMD Athlon 64 & the time flys for me.

Game being slow is most of the time due to a lack of RAM, but it could be the processor. How much RAM do you have and what processor?

I've got 1GB of RAM and a 3,6GHz P4 processor, everything works for me.

EDIT: However, on my old PC I had 256MB of RAM, and the game lagged like hell.

When your pop gets into the hundreds of thousands, then it's normal for the game to slow down on the fastest speed. I sometimes find it's just as fast to run it on the middle speed as it is the fastest speed. The middle speed doesn't seem to suffer from the same lag as the fast speed in really big cities.

Having too many custom content on your system can also tax the computer's memory. If you are a fanatic on custom content, make sure you have enough computer power for it. 1 Gb of RAM isn't too shabby.

Time sure is going slow in big cities...

I have a Intel Celeron (2.53 gHz) processor and 256 mb RAM. This isn't much. But then I like smaller cities more than larger. My biggest city ever made had "only" 150.000 residents.

I'd wish I had more RAM.
