FOR REAL?????

I have this city, pop of around 101K (large map). There is this one R sector that is zoned R$$$, but I was only getting R$. I had superdupulous coverage of everthing. So, I decided to give it a boost. I grabbed an R$$$ Skyscraper Condo from landmarks (I have the plopmodd) and set it down in there. In a matter of sim days, R$$$ buildings start growing all over the place there!! So I think about demoing the Plop R$$$ (since they pretty much abandom after some time), but I didn't see a "No Car" Zot! So I thought hmmm.... and left it there. Well, after 4 sim  years, it is STILL there!!!!! 47.gif  Not Kidding!! So I decide to run an experiment! I plop a bunch of other R$$$ Skyscrapers in areas where there are small buildings. THEY STAY THERE FOR INFINITY TOO!!!!! 6.gif6.gif6.gif I don't know why or how, but the R$$$ plops work! I tried it in several other large cities (most of which being 50 to 90K), and they're fine!! So I try an R$$$ plop an a small city (around 10K), and it doesn't work... so then I plop an R$, but it stays! 19.gif *bing!!* 37.gif Could someone explain? Thanks.

interesting experiment.

I would like to point out that it is not possible to zone for R$$$ or any other wealth type. What you are refering to is density, High, Medium and Low density. Wealth type has nothing to do with density. R$ can live in Skyscrappers just as easliy as a R$$$ can live in a small house (er, mansion). lots of people make that mistake though so its cool.

The consensus is that residential ploppables cannot be made to work due to internal limitations in Simcity4. However, some players have claimed it's possible to avoid dilapidation by plopping over existing residential buildings instead of blank lots. Even with this, I think the ploppables don't really function like real residential buildings. They just retain some properties found in the lots that were plopped over.

I still don't understand this "consensus". I have successfully used R$ plops (specifically my Bransfield House BAT) without any dilapidation. Of course, you have to have the requisite demand for the building before you plop it or other factors will cause it to abandon.

Yes, it does. And I didn't plop the buildings on R buildings or, heck, even in an R zone!

can you provide a screenshot of a working route query, and the building query of this "plopped" residential lot?

Even with a functioning route-query, it still might not really be working. I recently stumbled across a bug where if you zone over a different zone type (like zone commercial over residential), then the new buildings that grow there retain the routes of the previous zone type. So, you'll get very strage things like commercial buildings starting a route, or a residential building terminating a route.

In short, don't zone over a different zone type! Dezone the area first, then zone a new type.

I suspect those people who are getting plopped residential buildings to "work", are just encountering the same bug. I don't think it's wise to let the game get into such a state.
