well you don't need to check on the ALL the time. as they have a fairly long life span (nuke 60 yrs, hydrogen about 50 years)t...a quick look every 5-10 years should be ok after about 25-30 years of the plants building

but Nuke plants and hydrogen plants give off warning signs before exploding (barring leaving a fire going unattended near one, always place at least a small fire station in radius of the plants...just in case)

the plant start degrading....one easy way to tell is that the building starts to become dingy and grey (like a abandoned building) and the cost per wattage starts climbing rappidly...when this starts to happen...either a...bulldozer the plant and build a new one in it's place...or start saving often if ya wanna see how far it can go...cuz if tyou have a nuke expliopsuion in the city....without some sort of mod or something...the city is toast...and will never recover...radiation is the one thing that almost impossible to recover from (without mods)

Yes, I like nuclear explosions, but i only build it in my 'worst' cities. I think it is better to use other plants if you want to leave power plants unattended for a long time. It just crumbles when it reaches the end of the lifespan, but if definitely leaves no radiation.

XD i remember when i first played the game and i though nuclear power great! it then exploded...... people left the city, city got erased. i would just stick with coal though its the cheapest and it doesnt pollute that much if you put a load of trees around it.

The biggest problem with nuc plants is that they age out and then cause real problems.  Make sure they are well watered, and a nearby fire station is not a bad idea.  You can have a Three Mile Island situation with these plants, or a Chernobyl if they catch fire and you don't put it out pretty quickly.

One of the things we need very badly is a better nuclear power plant.  Preferably one that won't blow up no matter what.  Hopefully, someone who is better at graphics than I am will make a CANDU reactor plant.  There are lots of models around, just google for CANDU.
