  1. ACE Airport Pack

Teaser these are just two of the CRJs that will be in the upcoming pack... stay tuned for new shots of our 747s.
  2. RMIP-2 Airport Lots by Voltaire

I always had trouble with the Joerg/Thalassicus/SWAP grass, it crashed the game instantly whenever I built it, even with Swamper's support file installed. Which is why I went and made my own grass lots -- located in the Parks menu -- so I think xiziz is correct. Try and use RMIP-2 grass in a fresh city, without any other airport packs loaded in your plugins folders at all. Remember to look for extra copies in your Program Files plugins, as well as your My Documents plugins.
  3. Braniff Boeing 707

There are many different configurations available for seating in a plane this large, and according to the operator's (Braniff) figures, they flew 'em with 106 seats... the A.net article is general info only; many airlines did fly coach-only setups with much higher capacity. BTW this model is a stepping-stone to other types of narrowbody jets: the 737 fuselage for example is exactly the same except for length.
  4. Braniff Boeing 707

I was wondering who would be the first to mention that, diablo_del_bano, I really enjoy watching the early South Park episodes, and it's partially why I picked Braniff to be the "launch customer" for my 707. The end credits feature a 727 though (three engines)... but that may also be on the list :)

Presenting the all-new Boeing 720, in the 1960s colors of Braniff International Airways! The entire aircraft has been remodeled -- all 392 vertices, plus dozens of UV coordinates. Both images making up the model "skin" have been redone from scratch. This release is a multi-pack -- five skins are included, a selection from both designer color palettes used by Braniff in the '60s. I chose the shorter 027 model to keep overall length down, it's about the same as Maxis' 707 for the convenience of people who built terminals with just enough space for the Maxis jet. The whole thing has been re-worked so the scale (of the fuselage especially) is upgraded to 16 meters/tile, for visual consistency with the 747. Someone in ace's thread remarked how our 747 dwarfs the 707 when put side-by-side -- it's because the 707 was under-scaled. Anyone wishing to DL the manual-install pack for MAC or LINUX please be patient, I am moving all the manual-install .zip files to a new server. Replies HamsterTK I have not heard from ace personally in months, I am not sure of his intentions at this point. I cannot just release it myself, because although I did a lot of work on it, it's ace's originally and I have to wait for him. nanumea, that Lot wasn't a finished concept, just a basic piece of ramp with the plane and some vehicles nearby for scale. At real airports back in the day before jetways (skybridges), you would have seen air-stairs fore and aft (possibly on both sides) to allow passengers to board and disembark. hope you like it hyped_up_boy! Pilot3033 I really apologize for leaving yout post un-answered for 3 weeks Glad I could get you interested in SC4 again. I consider it the highest possible compliment when RL aviation people like yourself enjoy my content. In response to your questions: 1. So far, the terminals in SWAP and RH Airport Pack are the only ones that "function" to raise commercial caps and so forth. I know of at least one member (not me) working to remedy the situation. 2. All the markings I show are intended for public release, some I just haven't got around to yet I suspect you're looking at the little terminal I made last spring, to test the RJ jetways -- I consider those prototype textures which will form the basis for more upgrades within the Large Airport Edition. 3. I use mainly RMIP-2; at this point its scope is so large that no other pack is necessary. RMIP-1 is no longer installed on my system. I've plucked several useful bits from SWAP and modded them for my own use. And of course ace_bovenopdeberg's terminal set. General Project Notes The DC-7 project is on hold indefinitely until I figure a way to re-scale without manual editing of vertices. The relative proportions are correct but the whole thing should be doubled in size -- the wingspan is supposed to be the same as a 707. I made the error of using window size and spacing as a measuring stick; DC-7 windows are actually larger and set much further apart than Avro or Boeing windows. The Large Airport Edition is unfortunately also on hold indefinitely while I deal with work and other RL issues. I can't see returning to it before March. I know you've all be waiting patiently, and I wish production time weren't stretched out like this, but I just can't set RL aside for game modding as much as I used to. In the meantime, I'll get together some adapter pieces to go from RMIP-2 taxiways to RMIP 1.0 wide runways, so all you mega-airport builders out there can get a start on your big projects.

Not dead... just wandered off for a bit Coming soon... the first ever complete remodel of the Boeing 707
  7. SearsTower

Outstanding... I would give this a 20 if I could.

Mac/Linux compatible .zip downloads for all the planes are now available in the top of the RMIP-2 thread.
  9. United Douglas DC7

    You're welcome!
  10. RMIP-2 Airport Lots by Voltaire

The first three DC-7 releases have been updated with better wings and windows previously seen only in the United skin. Only one more to go -- then on to the jetliners! Thanks Yoman! GoldenKevin right now the plan is to make exit taxiway stubs connect to the runway outside of the markings. So far I haven't run into anything preventing that, but there's still a long way to go. sorry I didn't see your question earlier ben_sb_vex: Takeoff & Landing animations operate no matter the length of runway; nothing except power loss (or low graphics settings) will stop them. Combining pre-fab terminals with RMIP is fine, just be sure to get Swamper77's airport support file. Finally, the runways do not function in any meaningful sense (other that looking very nice!), so pick the pieces you want. And thanks! bearmans that software is a series of plugins for professional drafting programs (expensive!) but it would be neat to play with... for those of us comfortable with MSDOS, the old FAA program (still a free web download) is good enough. It's text-only though, nowhere near as illustrative as AutoCAD would be.

1956 United Airlines DC-7, now available on the STEX! get it here. Not just a new airline this time: a makeover of the wing & elevator skins, converting them to authentic bare metal... it came out so nice, I may go update the others to use the same. Also the vertical tail's skin (just the skin, not the in game color!) is now slightly green to cancel the weird red overtones that sometimes appear in-game.

The files were updated about a month ago... check the RMIP Menu Management Lots release on the STEX, read the part about updating and re-download to get the new MMLs.
  13. RMIP-2 Airport Lots by Voltaire

Done! The download link is in the first post of this thread. A little pack of extra designators, for compass points lower & higher than the standard four directions... for those with big airports, this'll let you make up to nine parallel runways. I'm interested to see pics of airports large enough to need these. Thanks Yoman and Hanson. Look for the final 3 DC-7 liveries coming soon! Littleapple the maxis airports have query boxes which show capacity & usage... you'll get messages from your transport advisor when it's time to upgrade. Also you'll see near-capacity airports looking dilapidated. The plane animations would be cool but it's not possible for many technical reasons, mainly because we would have no way to make the planes follow the taxiway layout of different airports.
  14. ACE Airport Pack

Ace is extremely busy with school at the moment, as soon as he has some time to work on this we'll see about getting it released. My own RL commitments are piling up as well, putting a stop to most of my modding projects. As a result, I'm not taking requests for liveries at this time, though that may change in the future (early 2007).
  15. RMIP-2 Airport Lots by Voltaire

I would guess that those big displaced areas are due to noise restrictions, as there are residential streets immediately behind both ends of the runway. It's not the water, there are other runway thresholds at JFK and LGA which are almost on the shoreline. goldenkevin the tire skids will be reversible, just like in RMIP 1 -- since the centerline dashes are centered within the transition piece, it can be rotated to face either direction. Yoman I estimate that these runway lots will take a month, maybe two depending on how I split my time between the 5 projects I have going on right now. Delta "Gold Crown" DC-7, now live on the STEX... get it here. IMO the sharpest-looking of all the DC-7s yet.

Thanks GMT! More on the way, as I find time here and there in my schedule. GoldenKevin, this is one of the longest-standing issues with Maxis automata: because of the way the game was progammed we cannot make different skins appear at once. If you put more than one file in your plugins, the game will show the one that loaded last, and ignore the others. daryl you're going to have to wait until I'm finished with it... I'll let you know. Until then, try and complete one of your own projects. Such as that wooden hangar, it looked like a decent piece of work, why didn't you complete it?
  18. KLM Douglas DC7

@nanumea: it's technically possible but extremely time-consuming. BATing them as normal props would take far less time I think. @bongoswimp: no, as far as I know these cannot be randomized through traditional prop families because this is an automata sprite rather than a static prop. @kevin: changed my mind, I guess...

I wrote it (in error), it was an assumption based on flawed logic: premise: In the US runways must be at least a certain length to qualify for Precision Instrument markings (fact) premise: virtually all airliners need much more than that length to land, because of their weight and approach speed (also a fact) conclusion: therefore airliners can only operate on precision runways The argument is invalid, because long runways need not be precision. Also small jets don't need a long runway.
  22. RMIP-2 Airport Lots by Voltaire

I'm only planning on concrete for the wide runway set. Which will actually be 5 tiles wide btw. This will make a new construction scheme possible, where the centerlines are completely separate from the markings, and the markings separate from the exit taxiways. Most of the outer tiles are grass and shoulder, so 5 tiles isn't as gigantic as it sounds.

  24. KLM Douglas DC7

This "prop" will show up as a replacement for all Maxis midprops, even on the game-default airports... there is no need to build your own Lots with it, unless of course you really want to ;) The air-stairs and walkways in the pic can be found in my RMIP-2 airport packs, which feature ploppable gates and parking spots with this plane type.
