  1. I can now confirm that the Graphics card was the heart of the problem. After writing about my problems on the Nvidia support forums, I got a few suggestions, on how to disbale various features in directx, that made the game crash. As Ausmayor stated, the car doesn't support Directx natively, which causes a few problems. After fiddling with the registry and older drivers, I got the game fairly stable, but slow as hades. So I wound up acquiring a cheap Nvidia 750ti. Problem solved, nice and stable. Cheers and merry xmas.
  2. A rather funny little bug. Apparently airports aren't available in vanilla Sim City 2013? I'm not sure. However, I am very sure, that starting the guide shouldn't trap me like this: http://snag.gy/Nqi5e.jpg Only way out, is exit to main menu or quit. Can't exit the tutorial in any other way. Cheers, F
  3. I waited quite a while, and it didn't change. Then I quit the game, and reloaded. Problem solved. Strange. Cheers, F
  4. I seem to have an issue here. Placing rails has not been approved, despite the fact that I have a ministry of transportation in the region. From what I read, the approval proces is "place a ministry of transportation OR a freight depot" not that both have to be present? See http://snag.gy/mmo6I.jpg Cheers, F
  5. Hmm, well, the vid-card is old, thats true, but spending 100 dollars+ more for a game that cost me 10 is simply too silly. Guess it'll have to go on the shelf.
  6. Purchased the vanilla Sim City 2013 edition on black friday through Origin, and apart from one very recurring annoying issue, it seems to work fairly fine. Every now and then, the game will freeze completely, screen goes to an either green or blue color and sound goes nuts. I have to shut down the PC completely. Can't reset, cant reach the task manager or anything at all. In less than a week it has happened more than 20-25 times, with playing time about 5-6 hours. Incredibily annoying. Just before purchasing the game I did a completely new Win8.1 install, and haven't got this kind of bug in any other games - Oblviion, Elder scrolls online, Civilization - so I figure somethings buggy with Sim City or Origin. A few specs: Windows 8.1, pretty basic setup with Office 2013 and not much else. Core-i5 2500 8 gb ram 256 gb SSD (175 gb free space) + 500 gb raid1 data drive Geforce 285 Most graphics settings set to medium. Problem persists in both windowed and full screen moved, albeit seems more frequent in full screen. Playing single player only. There are no entries in the system og application logs to indicate what causes the problem, only that the system stopped working unexpectedly. No drivers hickups, no application dumps.. nothing. Cheers, Flix
  7. Back in the day, I used to have a game called Movie Monsters. Rather trivial, but nonetheless a novel idea. Cheers, Flix
  8. I'm with Velve here. I couldn't care less for like or dislike DRM or franchise diehards attacking EA. I'd just love a bulletpointed list of arguments for and against, compared to the original concept. I do however like Catchin22's 24 hour gameplay post. Nice screenshots and creative input. Not at all unattractive.
  9. Perhaps I'm about to be extinct, or have just outgrown gaming altogether. But before I let my late 80's and 386 enthusiasm carry me on to buying this modernized edition of Sim CIty, I'd love to hear your recommendations, when the DRM is set 100% aside. From the 1 hour limited BETA I only gained a scarce impression, but it seems to me that Sim City Socities still looms heavily over the game, and the amount of ploppaple content heavily outweighs the spontaneous dynamics of the previous editions. In Sim CIty 2000 things were still levelled nicely, in Sim CIty 3000 things rapidly developed, and yet in Sim CIty 4000 matters were still in a fair balance... then the plops took over. Perhaps even as a response to the huge amount of ploppaple content developed by the creative community? While certainly beautiful, advanced and with all respects, a tremendous effort by modern day development teams, that overshadow anything in the past, I simply can't help gaining the impression that the game shouyld be deemed "Control City" rather Sim City. Perhaps I'm being a tad harsh, perhaps I'm not, but I'd just like to get the impression from those who have actually managed playing the new Sim City. What do you spend most time on? Zoning and creativity? or plopping and directing? Best Regards from an x86 dinosaur
  10. How do you feel about the SCS announcement?

Societies is going to be a great game. Without a doubt. BUT, my true opinion can only be stressed with the fact that I've put up a petition to raise awareness on he lack of commercial interest in micro-management games. They are dying off left and right because they are difficult to create and market, but so were they also back in the 80's when they started the evolution of the gaming concept with Sim City and the likes. So I urge you to join in and drop a signature Again, I mean or say no evil about Societies, I'll most likely even buy it, as I did Railroads in memory of Railroad Tycoon. But whether or not I will be happy, only time can tell. Cheers, Flix
