  7. Cadott Bay

Well, lets start right away. First update: This is the region as far as it is terraformed: 1.1 Here I have pointed out the locations there I plan to build cities and towns: 1.2 And this will be the urbanised area then everything is finished: 1.3 Now you have got an idea of what is going to be this CJ. What do you think?
  8. Laurence

Thank you very much for your interest. To all of you! I have decided, that I like the style of Laurence very much, although I haven't shown you all of it, not even the smallest part of it. But - I think that this project deserves a better map. A better landscape and a bigger scale. That for I will close this CJ and start a new one. Cadott Bay . In this new region I will continue the work on an american city. But this time it will be much more of a city. It will be a whole region, with cities, towns, villages, forests, rivers and seas. Have a look! I hope this is not too disapointing news. And thank you again for posting that much here in this CJ. It is very nice to have such great an audience. Thank you. See you in Cadott Bay !

Sooo many replies! I am very glad that you are so much interested. Thank you very much. This is very encouraging. Mikeaut1: Thank you very much. Yes, I will stay with this. Simworld 056132: New York is indeed one of the cities that inspired me most. Not for its size, naturally, but for its building style. Yes, I will stay with this. Fischbob: Thank you very much for this compliment. Yes, I will keep it up. sloppet: Thank you, too. And you will always be welcome here again. jacqulina: Nice to see you here, too. And thank you for your nice words. pickled_pig: I am glad to hear that I met my goal. About the buildings: What you saw in the last two updates are almost all buildings from the STEX. Have a look for Don Miguel or yticmic and you will find many of them. Nardo69: Hey, welcome back so soon! I think it is more $ than $$. And definately it has a little bit of a slummy apearence. I am glad, that you think, that this one goes as well as my UK village went. Bis bald. aleking: Thank you very much. A compliment as yours from a person who is itself an expert in 'eye-candy' is worth a lot. GMT: Thank you very much! Yes I use the STEX buildings often and am very glad that others put so much time into the development of them. ak72: Yes, you are right. The area shown in the last two updates wasn't meant to be a 'nice' borough. It is a poor peoples area. Cjah: Thank you very much for this comment of yours. Nice to hear, that you see it as realistic. PhilsCafe: Yes, that is exactly why I like this area that much. Thank you. Today I will present you an area that is located right next to the borough I showed you last time. First an overview: 5.1 This is a new appartment block project. It breaks the wall to wall pattern of its surroundings to bring more light and fresh air to the flats of the people living there. This are no luxury appartment either. They are middle sized for middle class people. As you can see, two buildings are still under construction. 5.2 Some details: 5.3 5.4 Right in front of this complex, there is the local transit hub. A small rail station for the local trains, a subway station and some bus stations. From the rail station there goes a short distance line directly to Laurence Main Station, providing a rapid conection to downtown. 5.5 A detail: 5.6 The southern road bridge over the rail: 5.7 At the other side of the rail tracks there are some comercials: 5.8 A diner: 5.9 The northern bridge over the rail and an old train maintenance facility. Many years ago, this whole area was a huge railyard serving the trains that went from Laurence Main Station to all the cities in the country. But now many people prefere to go by car or even by aircraft. So the big railyard wasn't needed anymore and was replaced by the buildings you have just seen. This little rail workshop is all that is left: 5.10 Here another overview. You can see how the new buildings in the place of the former railyard are much younger than the surrounding brick tenements: 5.11 One last thing: Sometimes I am able to observe that our beloved sims are taking rather curious ways to work: 5.12 The last picture is showing an area that is still under construction. You can take it as a small teaser for the next update. That's it for today. I hope you like what you see!
  10. Laurence

Today I will show you some details of the same area as in the last update. Here are the images: 4.1 4.2 4.3 4.4 4.5 4.6 4.7 4.8 I like this neigbourhood a lot. I think that it represents very well the typical style of brick building areas of U.S. cities. Or am I wrong? What do you think?

PhilsCafe: Welcome to Laurence! And thank you for your nice words! There will be a lot more of interesting railway design in the future. Simworld 056132: Hey, nice to see you here. How is the cloning going on? And thank you for your suggestion about simgoober's shops. Some malls are already planned. soldyne: I am glad that you like the city until now. It would be nice to see you again here. And now some more pictures. Not as soon as promised, but, well, here they are. This time I will show you one borough of Laurence, north of downtown. It is an old part of the city, poor and medium class people live there. It was build in the 19th century and some buildings might be of the early 20th century. But see for your self... Here you can see where this part of the city is located: 3.0 An overview: 3.1 And here are some closer pictures: 3.2 3.3 3.4 3.5 3.6 3.7 3.8 3.9 3.10 3.11 3.12 3.13 3.14 3.15 3.16 3.17 3.18 3.19 3.20 I hope you like the images. I know, it is nothing spectacular, but I like those wall to wall districts a lot. What do you think?
  12. Laurence

mtbrocket: Thank you for posting. Yes, I like that diagonal avenue as well. E.J.C: Wellcome to Laurence! Thank you for your reply. Sorry, but it isn't supposed to be an european city. It should be an american city. And I think that many american cities are griddy... Nardo69: Nice to see you again. And thank you for your compliment. Dann bin ich schon mal gespannt auf deinen n

r0g3r: Thank you for the first reply!!! I am glad that you appreciate this work. Here I put pictures of the transport view and the region as far as it is developed: 2.1 2.2 Now you can see the size and shape of the city as it is in its current state.
  14. A UK village

A UK village tour guided by barnatom. This is not a real CJ. Here I will only show you one village. A small UK village that came to live only for the purpose of testing gascooker's amazing buildings. But what developed there was so interesting to me, that I decided to make this one medium city tile as perfect as I am able to do. I posted already some images of this village at the 'BSC Gascooker Emporium' and some people there liked them. So I got the idea of putting together a little showcase for the general public. For the ones that are interested, some information: The village is the only developed city in its region, it has only connections to the Sim-Nation. I am not using any mod that alters the finances or the demand. Nearly every lot has grown by itself. I am however using the NAM and - like you will see for yourself - cycledoggs terrain mod. I want to dedicate this thread to gascooker. Without him and his lots the following would not have been possible. So - lets start the show. I will take you on a tour through the village, explaining some things on the way. We enter the comunity at its north border. Heading south we drive through woodlands, little farms can be seen on both sides of the road. Further south, there are more farms. We follow the road and reach the first houses of the village. To the right of the road we see the security walls of a high tech research lab, to which the public has no access. Staring at this walls and wondering what may be done behind them, we get to a roundabout. A little fire station is located next to it - almost hidden by trees. In the roundabout we take the exit that will leave us to the town-center. It can't be far away since the building density is already getting high, at least for a rural area like this. We pass an old porcelain manufactory that is still in business. Quite a contrast to the research lab we have just seen. After some blocks we park our car at the market square, strech our legs after the long ride and admire the beauty and rural flair of this place. Looking around, we notice the old townhall with its clock-tower, a small courthouse and of course pubs at every corner. Knowing that we won't drive anymore today we decide to relax by a cool drink in the Horse and Jockey. After some pure, oldfashioned draught beers we feel a little sleepy. And since it is already getting late we just cross the street to stay the night at the Yorkshire Grey, an old and respectable inn with a red telephone booth in front of it. We will sleep very well there. Next day we plan to have a look at other parts of the village. That's it for today. More comming tomorrow. Thanks to ert90 for telling me where to find the Peg-plaza seen in the pic above. I like it very much. Please leave comments -- suggestions are welcome also. (English isn't my first language. Please excuse any mistakes.)
  15. Show us your most unique and creative transportation network!

For everyone who hasn't seen it in my UK village, my favorite rail underpass: And a closer picture: Thanks to the NAM!

sloppet: Thank you very much! davejowsey: I am glad that we could help. Dark Avatar: Thank you for your nice comment. I just saw your CJ, too. And I like it very much. (Great fires in the woods.) GaryReggae: Welcome to the village! Thank you for posting. Well mostly it is waiting demolishing and waiting and demolishing and... But if you want to know more about it, I posted a small tutorial about Gascooker's Semi Suburban homes here: BSC Gascooker Emporium page 18 . And another one about Gascooker's terraced UK buildings here: A UK village page 7 . And another thing: This is usefull to keep the american buildings down: Tolomar's tilesetmod . I hope I could help you. Some more images will be uploaded soon.

  24. A UK village

deathtoall: I am glad to be able to welcome you again! And thank you for your nice post. Good to hear that you still like the village. Spike345: Welcome to the village! Thank you for posting. And about this park: It isn't a real park. The two smaller sides are pieces of marrast's Walkways Stairs Set ver. 3.1 . In the middle there are two normal in-game small parks and some of morifari's Simple Empty Tiles . The trees are planted one by one by hand. About the fire and police stations: There are no police stations in the village, since it is rather small they are not nessesary. But I have some fire stations, the normal ones. Just have a look at this pictures: From page 1: From page 9: I hope this helps you. If I find the time, I will upload some new images later. And if you want to see something special, just tell me about it...
