Problem with moving cities in a region
Badwater replied to Badwater's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I'm aware of all this, and the Regions folder in Documents is where all of this was taking place. And whether or not I'm using a CD patch is not the answer to the original question, and not at all helpful. I use NOCD patches and cracks all the time for Japanese games and VNs, it's old hat to me, and very much a non-issue. Not that it was in any way related to my original query, but after my Windows restart Origin did not exist on my system and my account showed no history of having purchased it, so rather than lay down more money I simply used my original game. Again, a non-issue.- 14 Replies

Problem with moving cities in a region
Badwater replied to Badwater's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
When I woke up this am I came up with the idea of just renaming the cities that start O-Z with an "A" in front of the city name. That worked, and all the cities loaded up. I'm still kind of curious why the game would have done that in the first place, though... >.>- 14 Replies

I recently had to restart my Windows 10 system. I had SimCity 4 with Origin but lost those files in the process. I was able to dig up an old CD of SimCity Deluxe. I installed it and got it to work with the no CD patch. Then I installed my mods from a backup of the SimCity 4 folder in Document. Everything runs and appears as normal. The only region I've ever built on is the San Francisco region. I also had all my cities saved and moved them to the Region folder in Documents. Now the curious part: When I run SimCity, the program truncates all the named cities after the New City listings. This means that all the cities in the SF region that start with the letters A-M exist, and all the cities that start with O-Z are deleted and do not exist when I open the folder back up after running the game. The cities A-M run fine, the mods are working; O-Z don't exist. I've tried every combination of loading files that I can think of. Is there another dependency in the Plugin folder or some other reason why this is happening? It's not making a whole lot of sense to me. Thx in advance for you input.

Game crashes to desktop when I try to load a certain city, please help
Badwater replied to The Happy Bomber's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
...Once you have set this option, it is permanent unless changed. Don't neglect this - if other things that you run require the other CPUs then you'll need to change it back. The upside of changing Affinity is that it only lasts as long as the game is running. -

Can I see examples of zoning when first starting a new city?
Badwater replied to catpower165061's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
This is what's going on - you can build for the big picture and the endgame, but it won't work when you're first building your city. What I mean by that is that regardless of what your money situation is, if you're building transit, zones, and services that are designed for a large city at the beginning of the game, it won't work. Build up before you build out is one philosophy but by no means the only way to build your city. My cities generally start with two phases (maybe three). I start by having an idea of what I want the land area to look like if it were full - regardless of size, what are you envisioning? Is it a dense urban metropolis? Is it mostly agriculture with some residential and commercial support? Those are two extremes and you'll find infinate varieties in between. What are you looking for? I love high density. To do that, however, I have to build a small town that is integrated, then be prepared to destroy everything I started with...or very nearly. Swap zones, change my ideas, start small to build big...but still, what are you after? I can answer my questions. You have to answer yours. I can answer your questions if they are the "right" ones. Remember that zones do not "fill," necessarily, at the outset of your city. Also, what "fills" depends on you - do you have police for commercial zones? Do you have fire for Industrial zones? Do you have medical for your residential zones? Do you have the proper education lots? Do you have open areas/parks/recreation for your zones? Do you have the proper transportation? All of this, and more, factors into how your - AND MY - cities function. So feel free to tell us in detail what the issue is. There's lots of help out here. -
I first bought SimCity 2000 back in....1997? 98? Loved the game, then really liked SimCity 3000. I probably did not like it as much as SimCity 2000 but I played it. I then bought SimCity 4, and then....if I remember properly, it did not load or play well on Windows 2000 ME. I had bought the game but left it on the shelf, literally. I did not like it as much as SimCity 2000 - you had better graphics but no real improvement. Now I have Windows 8 and about 5 months ago I reinstalled the game. It worked, and I rediscovered why I liked SimCity; however, it was not SimCity 2000. I play a couple of other games where I use mods, and that makes or breaks the game for me. In the past few days I decided to bone up on SimCity 4 mods, having understood the value of user content with the experience of my other games. Wow. That's all I have to say. Not only am I surprised at the dedication of all who have made SimCity 4 what it can be (both those who are here and who are not), I'm having a blast playing an 11 year old game that seems fresh to me. I'm liking this as much as when I started. If you're new, do not be daunted by mods. I've installed maybe 8 of the major ones, the ones that can help the basic game the most. While it may help that I've gone through the mod process in other games, if you're new to this then do not dismiss SimCity 4! There are a lot of very good resources that will take you through the process...and while it is onerous at times, it is amazing that an 11 year old game plays fresh and new. I'm certain that is why everyone is here. Everyone who is dedicated to SimCity feels the same way. I need to play, and build, and do my thing............thanks to all of you that have stuck with it and created a new experince for me. Badwater
