Not Enough Freight Shipments
Agente Silva replied to zacnlinc's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I don´t usually pay attention to the Not Enrolled Vs Educated numbers... what I do, when the student pickup routine starts, is making sure all students get picked up until 13:00 (open educational data layer and see if every lightblue column goes down). After 15:00 I just check if there is any purple column (meaning there are not enrolled kids in that building). -

Hi again... I would suggest your first city to be a essentially low wealth residents, some comercial and some industry, having all the dirty services (power, garbage, recycling and sewage). Usually I tend to develope my first city to pack as much residents I can in one plot (600k to 700k) so I can have all City Hall´s modules - achieving this will allow to unlock all services to the whole region, thus saving zoning space to neighbooring cities (if you are already using the BoC mod you can always plop your City Hall outside). Regarding that "tall tree" hint I gave you, be aware that tall trees wil increase land value (because they are "Nature" parks and these increase to medium land value). Do not forget to bulldoze tall tree rows after you get your roads space correctly to assure you´ll get Low wealth residents (workers) - in the beginning these are the main working class you should care about About the Omega thing - yes, if your traffic is clumped Ore and Oil trucks will get stuck and might not deliver these raw materials to the Omega facility making it stop producing. Once you sort your road layout and traffic starts flowing your supply chain should guarantee a stable production (even though it´s always a good idea to have a trade depot next to your Omega factories). The mods I use are offline only... I really really recomend you to use Nikola´s Industry mod and Procskalone BoC mod (sorry for such insistence on using them, it´s just they are true gamechangers). edit: Here´s a photo showing how I avoid the cross intersection, but still assuring cars can go left by the shortest path (it´s a bit wide I play on 3 screen display): https://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m155/vasco_filipe1/Spark_2014-07-04_05-37-40_zpsbqaxrgsf.png (in case you want to download the full resolution photo and zoom in edit2: notice that both Municipal Bus Depot and Streetcar Depot on the low left corner are built outside city -

That is odd... I´ve seen a few complaints regarding that "student commuting" issue but I never experienced that. I have Municipal buses for every city in region and even see school buses from other citys helping in pickups. Educational grade is high and buildings are green for education. Are you playing SimCity online? -
A little help for a newbie!
Agente Silva replied to Zipster69's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Hey Zipster Welcome to the forum Traffic: as you mentioned, you should carefully manage your intersections. One BIG hint: don´t "cross" intersect your first entrance to the city. Make a "T" intersection going right - the problem is that traffic lights will turn green for both upward and downward cars. If upward traffic (incoming) is to turn left they will get blocked by the stream of downward (outgoing) traffic making huuuge gridlocks. No matter how many public transportation or how well they are placed, if you have many road intersections you will get flamed (literally) Population: considering the small lot size, if you want to max your population, you´ll have to max your density. Usually players use a few trick to guarantee the best spacing between stretches of road/avenues - here´s what I do: I stretch a road/avenue; place a tall tree row; edit this tall tree row and place another in front; strecth a parallel road close to those tall tree rows. That spacing will grant a back-to-back high density building. Other than that it seems your doing things right. Omega: I bought CoT recently so I don´t see any reason why is your Omega production low. You said you have 3 or 4 Omega factories - did you mean 3 or 4 Omega MODULES in a Omega factorie?! If so, there is no apparent reason for low production. If you really meant "factories", maybe you need to place more "modules" in each of them. Sucefull Regions: yes, try to have specialized cities, for example: a Industrial city providing freight to neighboors. A sanitation city with garbage/recycling/sewage treatment. A Residential ONLY providing work force for neighboors (with low taxes@ 1 or 2%). A tourism city mixed with casinos (expect HUGE revenues ). I will advice, as to every SimCity player, to use Industrial mod by Nikola in order to increase your freight production. Look for Build Outside Border mod (BoC) by Procskalone - this will allow you to plop EVERY ploppable building outside city border. Mods are mostly troubless. I´ll only advice you to place them one-by-one and for each one load your game and check if they are ok Don´t hesitate to post any questions regarding SimCity. Be well, -
Yes, I would advice a one-by-one mod installation and checking. Some simple mods like retextured vehicles or the CarCrossover mod are easily verified if working correctly (they hardly "compromise" any core gameplay aspect). Other mods, like the RCI tweak from Nikola or Papabear (?) should be observed for an extend period considering they tweak "sinks" and so agents could somehow behave strangely. Anyway, your issue reminds me one a friend of mine had... people leaving town and never coming back - guess what, he had drawn a one-way road out of the city but no one-way road into city xD Commuters left city but never had chance to comeback.

This game is AWFUL...

There you have it Zac Download the whole pack, even if you´re just using BoC mod (you´ll probably use more mods included). Any question just drop´em here! -

Agente Silva replied to zacnlinc's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Zac Building Residential only is relatively easy... Just lower your taxes to 1 or 2% - mind that your budget will be always in red considering you still have to spend in public services as school (in the beggining you can have your students being picked up by another city´s educational service, but as your city grow, that "neighboor deal" won´t get the job done), police and clinic... I have this ultra rich casino+tourism city and for time to time I just send 10 million and budget problems are solved. Do not forget to visit your other cities frequently (this is somewhat important, specially when you have a residential provider, or a service provider like recycling or even power/water/sewage. Consider a 30 minutes interval; 1 hour mx ) even if it´s just for a 5/10 minute "sinchronization". This helps "refreshing" regional RCI demands. You mentioned "Going slow and steady this time around"... I always play in turtle mode since Simcity4. I don´t like speeding time, specially in this Simcity. One more hint - you get much reliable data from your population table at around 15:00 - 19:00 PM. If you look at your numbers at 2:00 AM you might get the wrong idea about your population/economy (specially in jobs and freight). Be well -

... and after a week I haven´t tried removing landmarkenhancment files I´ve been busy with recent purchase, Cities of Tomorrow, Amusement park set and Airship set I was having problems with El Train mod and Subway mod - Bi-Level roads version 2.4 (?) was giving me conflicts (1.2 version if fine though). Anyway, I might try that today and feedback on the outcome. Be well, -

Agente Silva replied to Urbanator's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Too bad you are having all those issues... My gameplay is FLAWLESS though. I´m miles away from that "this game sucks"; "it´s a bug fest" trend - actually I´m standing in the oposite side. I´ve been having a great time with it to the point of buying Cities of Tomorrow, Amusement park set and Airships set My new city is out to be a "Arkham/Gotham" distopia with a mix of Omega facility´s, Funpark (home of Joker) cathedral landmark and probably Vu´s Tower (if this doesn´t turn my Industry into Hightech). Rufus, you know what to do... Lowwealth residents only. If you´re using BoC you can plop alot of public services outside, saving space for zoning. You´ll have you 600k in no time While you´re at it, lower your taxes to 2% and make it a worker commute town so it provides the work force neighboors need edit: gotta post some screens so you guys don´t think I´m lying. All my cities run bugfree and behave as planned/expected. Be well, -

@ Zac I´m glad you sorted your download "issues" Now, if you wanna push you Industrial demand up you´ll need more Comercial - and these guys ask for a considerable amount of workers as well You´ll notice your game strategy change a bit, only by applying Nikola´s Industrial Mod. I suggest you consider having a Residential only city (with train tracks) so you can promote commuting - this works I have a 275k R only - 16k unemployed - provides 6800 to a neighboor city and 5500 to another. I can place a screen here later... Be well mate, -
At a crossroads with SC and CS - need advice (which to stay with)
Agente Silva replied to Cryptec's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Exactly this... I´ve always said "Simcity 2013 could be the first stone of a new Simcity era, instead of the last nail in the coffin". Too bad sales say exactly the opposite. I guess few are those who can see beyond what´s laying in front of their eyes. I bought Cities of Tomorrow and Amusement park set last week (for 15€) and can´t regret a tiny bit - and if you consider the possiblities opened by mods for CoT (MagLev as Subway; El Train) my Simcity longevity is promised for at least one more year. Last night I was playing and realized the difference of product quality from Simcity and Skylines. The nuances created by Cities of Tomorrow expansion to the base game are so well balanced in terms of gameplay, added features, building reskin, even the soundtrack is beatifully tweaked adding a few more melodys and introducing new "technological" instruments as you CHOOSE to futurize your city (opposing to what I thought it allows you to futurize small areas of your city, leaving you to decide if you want to keep a classic look, mix it with some futurized building, or go all "tomorrow" on your city). Simcity 2013 is a gemstone that needed a bit more polishing. I wish EA would still consider a Simcity "comeback". You don´t simply let fall a game landmark like this. Cities:Skylines doesn´t contribute in anything to take the city-builder genre to a "next level". -

Agente Silva replied to zacnlinc's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Yes, I am using the first edition of Nikola´s Industrial mod (Industrial files only). It included three files for each tech class (low; mid; high). Later on, he published a second mod including tweaks to R+C - I tried these as well but what I noticed after sometime was "too much balance". Just like rmjohnson said the game is designed to stay imbalanced. It is exactly this constant RCI demand that pushes your cities forward and upward So, long story short, I suggest you to download Nikola´s RCI mod and pick all 3 Industrial files ONLY, you´ll notice a huge increase in freight production (and trucks as well). Don´t install R+C In my opinion it could be a bit fine tuned to produce a bit less freight so I could have a bit more Industrial buildings (I like Industry ) but it´s far better than the original values. -

Agente Silva replied to zacnlinc's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Zaclinc You really should consider using the Industrial mod from Nikola. When I first applied it the effects were imediate, even on an existing city. Althought I find it strange you saying that you have an excess of freight production (with full freight storage lots at Trade Depots) - usually, WITHOUT the mod, it´s very hard to have such excess. Once you have the mod working you should be able to have one Industrial city supplying for all 3-4 neighboors. In order to balance worker availability you should aim for Hightech Industry since it uses much less low-wealth workers. "Plus, I noticed that my browser settings were changed and a lot of my defaults were set by other stuff contained in the download..." - I have NEVER ever had such similar thing (I do not run any antivirus or firewall... for years). All files in Simtropolis are safe, ad free... Instead of quiting your cities so much, try to reach the cause of your problem before assuming it is a bug - Simcity has been bug free for quite a long time now (if you have all patches applied). -

I would value being abble to plop more landmarks, opposing to get a massive income from their daily activity. I´ll try as you suggested, removing all landmark enhancement files, and using the more landmarks mod. I´ll reply the outcome... Thanks for your suggestion -
Is it possible to play C:S without an internet connection? Can I launch Steam in "offline mode"?

News update :) you need to have Orion in order to plop on water, just like in the screenshots. I have talked to Melborne101 (the author of that screen) wich was immensly helpfull. He investigated the possiblity to plop over water without Orion but apparently it is not possible. For those not willing to use Orion (like me for example, still considering if I let the mod file in the folder or not) you can try installing Orion, do whatever you want building overwater with these Waterway tools (sidewalks or roads), save game and then remove Orion - I think the work done will stay even without Orion. If you have Avalon (the RCI plopables mod) you can plop residential, comercial or industrial buildings over water - I can confirm it works, STILL I noticed that building trucks and the moving trucks seem to take longer to get to the site (but they end up reaching it, no worries).

The Multiple Landmarks mod never worked to me. Once I plop the third Landmark it makes all the other "Not Available". I don´t really remember if I´m using the "morelandmarks to your city" mod or the "multiple landmarks". I know I also have landmarkenhancments files in my simcity data folder - could these be messing the multiple landmark mod? Thanks, -
SimCity 2013 yesterday's news?
Agente Silva replied to xordevoreaux's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
1. CSL has a lot more appeal in this case (to me) since its coloration can apparently be altered quite easily to suit your preferences: you can also change the color filter in SimCity2013 wich much valid and appealing changes (much better than CSL) 2. The agent simulation is just overkill. I don't care where BillyBobJoe lives, where he works, what his car looks like, or anything: agreed - despite thinking that the agent system is really what makes this new Simcity special, there should a limit for tracked information (thus "saving" some resources to simulate real game elements like agent requests and statistical registry) 3. the way utilities are pumped in little bits and forced to travel on roads is painstakingly annoying: agreed - it is absolutely stupid the way power, sewage and water "travel" along the road. You got to keep a regular eye on those suppliers, specially when city´s growing. 4. I get backed up sewage all the time, even though my actual buildings are running just fine: huuumm, that must have happened back in the days of bug fest despite I never witnessed that bug (and I had a few like the trashtrucks conga lines). Anyway, things like that are not happening a long time. 5. School buses are a serious pain since you have to lay those stops everywhere: 0_o except for comercial and industrial zones. Good thing in CSL you don´t have to do those right? All kids are driven by their parents or just walk miles - no need for schollbuses (sigh) 6. Trams are stupid because their AI can't handle an intersection properly: I don´t even know what you are talking about - streetcars work with no problems. Maybe that was your personal experience (once again, a long time ago). 7. The prefab highways are useless in SC2013 - I've had mine backed up for 3 or 4 miles with tourist traffic and freight trucks related to a Great Works project: that happened to me recently while constructing Space Center. I think it didn´t happen on Solar Farm´s contruction. 8. If I start building one of those in my city and then switch to another one, the game likes to make it disappear: known issue; fixed issue.(almos a year ago). If it doesn't do that, it fails to keep track of the building's construction properly. Or if not that, it doesn't keep up with materials. - sorry to say but YOU didn´t keep up with materials - delivery trucks have a peculiar behaviour because they are shared amongst every building who have those. example - if you have a trade depot supplying resources to a Greatworks, and a coal mine supplying coal to a powerplant, some "coal trucks" could be called to deliver resources to greatworks. The travel time of that truck will surely be higher and he might not return in time to supply coal (you must be sure you have enough trucks). Traffic clogs can also mess with your supply chain. 9. CSL seems to have pretty decent traffic management - yea, when things start to get rough and cloggy vehicles simply disappear. That is great "managment". I wonder what would people say if things like that would happen in Simcity. 10. with elevated rail seeming very useful from what I've seen. The versatility of the way roads can be built is also very aesthetically pleasing and functional - Traffic infrastructures in CSL are much better and offer a wider range of flexibility, that is correct. Still there were a lot of improvements in Simcity on that matter from the modding comunity (unidirectional roads, ramps, transitions, water roads, tunnels and bridges). Modders also made subways (out of CoT´s monorail system), elevated trains and elevated roads. 11. Of course, there's the blatantly obvious difference in size of the cities (...) seems to try to appeal to the old-timer SC4-type player. This makes it hard to compare to SC2013, since SC2013 (to me) seems to appeal to the newer generation of gamers. Of course to me the most disappointing aspect of Simcity5 is the city size. CSL beats that for miles. I think I can consider myself an "SC4 old timer" but after Simcity5 I really can´t play that kind of "statistical" based city builder anymore. After 10 years of that I think it is time to move on, let go that generic model. Maxis tried to deliver a really groundbreaking city builder. It turned out to be a monster hungry for processor and GPU. Too bad they won´t have the chance to make a lighter engine to fit in today´s "chassis". Simcity5 DRM was bull, bug fest from early days made many gamers bailout, bug support and patch fixing demanded a great deal of human resource from Maxis and that is exactly what killed them. Today Simcity5 is a fine game. I have more than a thousand hours and even yesterday learned another trick with a mod that can make it even better. I read your post attentively and it kinda feels you didn´t give many "second chances" to Simcity5 (more like third chances or forth or fith xD). Playing it recently would probably eliminate a few elements you listed in your post above. In my opinion CSL has only one strong factor: city size. On every other aspect it just refurbishes Simcity4 to the 21st century. As I said before, there are not many moving parts under CSL´s bonnet for it to go wrong. In the end of the day: it's just a matter of what kind of a game a person wants to play -
SimCity 2013 yesterday's news?
Agente Silva replied to xordevoreaux's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Exactly what I think. Is a "draw and forget" game SC2013 needs constant attention, you actually play with the city, like a puzzle, you do not draw another area and lets move on to the next one. And indeed, what SC2013 needed was bigger maps. (Orion isn't solution to that problem imho). It feels it doesn´t have an engine of his own, once you stop pedaling it stalls. -
I was wondering if the modding enthusiasm for Simcity5 is gone? Did everyone moved to Skylines? After playing it for 10 days I got so bored. Skylines is a flop to me, a shallow "city painter" with no challenge to it... Can we get back to Simcity now?

Could you please, as a moderator, include in those quotes my posts where I help and give constructive feedback on Simcity? You left that feeling that I´m a flamer and only post to rant, making also to believe you have selective arguments and biased opinion. I´m sorry if I ofended you by saying I don´t like Skylines (just like I did say I didn´t like the Orio mod).
