  1. Great Works - Which and Why

I find the hourly rate is only any good until you set up the city specilisation. Once you've set the specilisation up, the upkeep is never covered by your taxes, but it doesn't matter as the trading makes it all back for you plus a healthy profit
  2. Nuclear Power Plant

Have you looked at how many hats you have in your education bar? You need to have that as close to five as possible. I also think that schools don;t give you enough, I think you really need a University to have education levels high enough. DO NOT bulldoze it, igf you do, you might release a load of radiation and that will leave your city pretty much trashed for ages! Turn it off to prevent anything going wrong and try and get your education level to 5 before doing anything else

Sure, add me on Origin and I can have a chat with you latter. My user name is the same on Origin as here (Horza3003)
  4. Great Works - Which and Why

That's great info to know thanks. Do you know if the $100k goes to all cities or how does it work? And will be instersing to see if with the tech level the space centre gives if it will provide tech lines for safe nuclear plants in the region too Basically, after 48 hours (ingame time) you get a pop up saying that there will be a launch in 24 hours and that tourists are flocking to your city as a result. Then you get a lil mission logo on the right hand side of the screen. This counts down the 24 hours and once that up, you get another message saying the launch was a success and the educational satalite is in a stable orbit (don't know if it can ever be unstable or what would happen if it did). Once you get that message, you get £100k like the rewards for the missions. Then, after that, the whole process starts again 48 ingame hours latter. As far as I'm aware it occurs for all cities in that region. It occured in my main city of the region (which actually built the whole wonder itself) and it also occurs in a new city I built AFTER I had completed the great works. My girlfriend also has three cities in the region (two built before and one after the greatworks) and all three of them get the same process too. I THINK you also get a boost to the number of tourists in your cities. I seem to think that my tourists attractions made more money when I was on the 24hour countdown to launch than when I wasn't. I will have a look tonight and see if the number of tourists do actually increase or not. In terms of the tech level, when I started my new city, it was already at 2 before I'd built anything at all! Then after building residential, it shot up to 2.5 and I started getting high tech industry staright away....I've decided to turn that city into a high tech indsutry/electronics city. I haven't used a nucealr power station yet, so sorry I don't know if it has an effect or not. Would be great if it did though; could potentially make nuclear power stations less of a risk to power a region!
  5. Great Works - Which and Why

I've built the space port and its fairly useful. Every two ingame days, you get $100,000 from tourists resulting from a satalite launch there. It can be very useful when your starting out a new city (if you havn't sent it money from another city already). Also, it seems to mean that there is no low/medium tech instrusy in the region either, regardless of whether you have Uni or colleage in the city. I started a new city in a region that I'd build the space wonder in and all of my industry went straight to high tech.
  6. You can also get a small amount of medium tech with just the schools (grade and high). But it takes a very long time (almost an ingame year) to get that to happen. I have noticed though, as stated above, that once you build a university, the tech levels jumps from low to high and misses out medium altogether!
  7. Hi all, Just a quick question about the HQ's for the specilisations. Once you've placed your desired HQ and upgraded it so that you can unlock the extra feature, do you need to keep it through the life time of the city. Or, once you've upgraded it, can you just delete it to save room? Might be easier to explain with an example: Say your drilling for oil and so therefore place the petroleum HQ. After selling the crude oil, you upgrade it and purchase the refining division so that you can place the refinieris. Do you need to keep the petrolum HQ in the city in order to build further refineries, or can you just delete it once you've got it once and continue to build refineris? Thanks
  8. Klioes. Thanks for the replies!
  9. from what I've seen, but I havent paid close attention, is that the garbabge trucks only seem to go out collecting garbage for a set time each day. Once the dead line arrives, anything that wasn't collected isn't and is just left behind. I was having that problem so added an additional garbage truck garage and that seemed to fix the problem (I'm guessing because the extra truck managed to reach the sites before the deadline arrived).
  10. The only way around this I have found it to build the great work using only one city. Then after it has built, quiet the game in the correct manner to sync with the server and then reload the game. When I've done that, all of the other cities in the region see that the great work has been completed and start reiceving the bonuses and such. Not exactly the most helpful way to build but at least it works I guess.
  11. yes I would still buy it again. it's not as good as I was hoping it would be, but I have still played it an awful lot the main thing I find frustrating is that I feel it has the potential to be soooo much better than it is....and obvioulsy all the bugs in it (which are now mostly sorted out)
  12. Rollbacks

Are sorry! Didn't realise you'd said that!
  13. Rollbacks

I was having these problems but have since found a way that seems to be working (I haven't had a role back for a few weeks now). When you are closing down, DO NOT quit from the in-game menu. Instead, go to the main menu and select quit game from there. Once you have clicked that, click quit and you'll get a message saying that some data has not synced and currently syncing. If you just let that do its thing, the game will close of its own accord. There is a quit button on the syncing message screen BUT DO NOT use it otherwise the game doesnt sync. Since I started usign this method, I have managed to play for two weeks with no rollback issue. For a city that was continuously rolling back after about 5mins, I found that if you load the city up, and then before it starts rolling back, use the method I just described above to quit the game. Since I did that, my city that rolled back every 5 mins has been fine for over a week now. Hope this helps
  14. General problems and thoughts.

I used to have all of my cities rolling back all the time, but I have since worked out how to stop. When in game, DO NOT go "quit sim city" directly from the game; for some reason this doesn't seem to sync the game. Instead, go the main menu first. Then once there, click on the quit button and say quit. You'll then get a message saying that some of your city has not been synced, now syncing...once that comes up just leave it alone until it closes of its own accord. There is a quit button on that screen BUT DO NOT use it otherwise the sync doesnt happen correctly
  15. I have a city with a maxed out third gen nuclear power plant that is providing the power for all of my cities in the region. That city does recive money from all the other ones in exchange for power. What I have noticed though, is that the other cities have very large power demands before you start seeing any money coming in. I wonder if theres a bug that only lets you recieve money after a certain amount of power has been supplied? If you volunteer garbage, police, fire and health, you get paid for it.
  16. I've had the same issue with archology, space centre and international air port. Every city tells me esomething differenet....
  17. Hi there, So recently, I seem to be attracting giant lizards to come and trample over my cities. Of the last 5 that I have had, all of them have appeared around the city dump and walked directly towards it. Once there, it appears to eat the rubbish in the dump before it dies. I noticed yesterday, however, that before the giant lizard got there, the dump was full to capacity. After the giant lizard and trampled its way over to the dump and had a picnic, I suddenly had aload of extra space in the city dump (I had no incinarators on the dump). Has anyone else noticed this? Or is this just a flukey bug that happened this one time.
  18. Yes, I have noticed that if I have a river in my city, it does tend to dig under the river and still go straight to the dump. i did a small test earlier. I summoned a lizard in the middle of nowhere (just started a new city with the dump on the outskirts). The lizard then just wandered through the forest doing nothing until it eventually got to my dump, ate some stuff and died. So for small cities with dumps on the outside, turns out you can empty a dump this way
  19. O yes, I really hate it too. The time I noticed it ate the garbage it trampled my fire station and recyling centre all in one go in order to get to the dump. Not the best situation when you have a fire breathing lizard walking around not to have any fire engines...
  20. Recycling centers

I beleive you may be wrong on this one. You dont need a Petrolium HQ to sell plastic globally unless you meant oil. To sell metals, alloy and plastic you simply need a trade Depot and the necessary storage for them. Let me know if I misunderstood you. O ok. When I went to my trade depo, it wouldnt allow me to build a plastics storage area because I hadnt got the petroleum HQ. Although, that is the first time I've used a recycling centre and it got destroyed quickly by a giant lizard (grumble grumble). I will have a check latter on and see what it said
  21. I'm having problem with this too...my trucks don't seem to want to go to the other city even though I've told them too. I suspect it might be a traffic related problem, the garbage trucks are getting stuck on the motorway or something
  22. I think you'll have to use another city for some of the resources (maybe water, sewage and power as they won't add to your congestion problems). People do seem to be forgetting that this sim city was designed so that multiple cities work together...its probably going to be near impossible to build a self contained monster of a city now...esp with the tiny map sizes
  23. You've hit the nail on the head there. I've been playing alot recently and most of the problems I'm experiencing is because I'm trying to play it like previous SimCity games and not using multiple cities to support each other. I've just started switching to multiple cities and things are all ready going better (both cities are making a healthy profit and managing to build a great work between them)
  24. Recycling centers

You also need to make sure that the recylcing centre has delivery trucks at it. Those are used to transfer the reclaimed material from the recylcing centre to the trade depot. The trucks that go out to collect the trash are not the same ones! You'll also need to have the correct HQ upgrades to sell the material as well (Metals HQ for alloy and metal; Petrolium HQ for plastic) if you want to sell them onto the global market
  25. I have to say that once my cities get up and running, I have no problems with any of the servies. I have a city with 160k population that has large medical, fire and police stations with both water pumps and sewage treatments. Even with those, all of them have at least two upgrades, im still making money each hour (500-2000) without any specialisation. The main problem I've found is the amount of space having those 5 take up. I've tried using other cities, but they never seem to do much for me...
