  1. AK's Bizarre Urban Menagerie

I've decided to kill this CJ in favor of a more cohesive, region based CJ (along the lines of Brastoval Bay) to be started soon, just sounds like more fun right now. For those new to this cj i invite you to go back through the old pages, just about each page contains a different city. Thanks and look for something new.

So I don't use it anymore. Do you have any tips to avoid or turn around this problem? It is such a nice model, but I find it only as a building in my LOT editor.... Or do you just accept this problem?quote> i have not edited any lots in that city, including the nexis grain silo, i also have never had the phantom building after demo problem with that particular BAT, so i can't be of much help there, sorry.
  6. Nicest American Cities

NY by far owns in terms of urban expanse and overall wow factor, though i'm not so hot on the yuppification and out of control cost of living. Chicago has amazing architecture and some great neighborhoods, but is too segregated and lopsided to be great. As someon who lives there, if chicago got serious abour re-investing in public trasnportation, added a circle line or even 2 and concentrated further development on the loooong forgotten south side, it could explode. Seattle combines a great skyline with the best geography of any major city. the rest, meh. some chicago as the pics in this thread are marginal

You were explaining how to drag the terrain tool out from the mountain peak in several different directions to form more natural looking ridges. But, I digress. I see you have designed some interesting terrain features to form the river valley here, too. The addition of the plop water and your use of the new flora brushes take it up a notch. I like the closeups, and you're right, some of the new rural BATs are very good. It's becoming easier to have decent looking R$ areas. I think my favorite pics, tho, are the zoomed out ones of the town split by the river. They really show off the plop water, some nice, snaky residential streets, and your skill at smooth bridge/overpass approaches. You can pass the rural "snuff mark" with room to spare in my book. --Livquote> wow thanks for that great reply. i had some nice hand terraforming skills, but with the sc4 mapper, amazing realistic regions are very easy now so i don't bother too much anymore, also i find building on slope very hard in the game, but yeah awesome reply. ANYWAYS, enough of that rural crap i gave a large city tile a go this time, something i haven't done in forever, and it just about killed my computer. I was going for a classic look, huge dense urban transitioning to sprawl. The big issue i still have is the lack of enough BATs from one single style to give a cohesive look, i'll just play any mixed styles off for now as ethnic nieghborhoods. I tried to emphasize the Chicago and NY tile sets and really integrating industrial into multiple parts of the city.

  18. AK's Bizarre Urban Menagerie

First off, thanks for the surprising trixie, this one means a lot, hard to find time to keep updating with RLS, thanks a million. Anyways, new flora and BATs have continued to lead me down a more rural classic American style path, i want to get back into more urban style, but i'm having a hard time using ploppable water in an urban environment. so here are a few more small towns, very mississippi river town-esque, my farm skills just aren't up to snuff, but i'm learning.
  19. Modular Railyard Set

Ok so after designing many freight stations I have felt that there (until now) has been no way to capture that vibrant freight yard feel, of rows of tracks with all sorts of freight cars. So the idea I had was to develope a set of transit enabled lots of various sizes (some large and some small) that can be combined with the wide variety of freight stations already available to creat customizable rail yards for your industrial/port/farming communitties. this would allow players to make full on massive rail yards with tons of freight cars, grain hoppers, ect or just to add some life to a few of their industrial rail spurs Frankie_Grove has been great and volunteered his skillz to work on the lots which is great We are also possibly looking for one more person (a BATer) that would like to join in this project to possibly BAT a realistic grain elevator. So if this intrigues you please feel free to post up and chime in. I have done a quick google search and come up with some pics of various types/sizes of rail yards to get an idea of the type of environment we are trying to capture.

can not believe i won something, and best city planner, sweet. I've been so much busier with work and RLS in general that updating my cj has been a real labor of love and it's nice to see you all appreciate the time. SC4 continues to be the only game i play period, most of all i have to thank Dirk and all the custom content creators, for making this game the evolving masterpiece it has become, really game is the wrong word, art form and hobby sounds better. Thanks everyone and i look forward to better things in the future.
