Hey guys. Finally got around to completing a map and would love to hear some opinions. You can find it here: http://steamcommunity.com//sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=438122901 I did not use any height maps and it was all done by hand. Since I have not had a lot of time to actually play the game yet I would like opinions on what might need changed or added by those who have more experience playing. Thanks!

Possible? I would like to change the textures of the ground as I don't feel they are very realistic, anyway to do this?
-
Well, this is a lot of work but a lot of fun to do. I haven't had much time to even play the game, maybe I will get the map done by the weekend and then I can actually play on it. Anyhow, these are just a few teaser pictures and no where near completion.

Most of it is buildable except the shoreline area, in order to get a curve on it I had to cut some of those blocks out. Thanks. I will consider a good way to deal with the sewage and dams.

Cyber Monday on Cities of Tomorrow - $5

There's probably never been a more absurd lie in gaming history, ever. Microsoft has EA beat by a very long mile. Microsoft told us Xbox 360 from the very beginning could play games in full 1080p (only a handful over the past 8 years could). Microsoft also told us the fabled 360 hardware failures were caused by user errors and that they have to charge us to use Netflixs and IE on 360 and Xbox One due to the effort it requires to stream data to them. Sony also told us PS3 was worth working 2 jobs over at launch. Nintendo told us, they couldn't make Princess Peach playable in New Super Mario Bros. Wii due to her dress being too hard to animate in 2.5D (they really did say this)! Activision told us every version of Call of Duty on PS3 and 360 were in full HD, even though they ran in 560p. Apple claims their iPhone is the best selling video game system in world. Etc... The point is EA hasn't made the worst lines on why something doesn't work. Maxis just doesn't want to force fans to buy new PCs. If they did, believe me everyone would hate the them and the game even worse than they already due if their PCs couldn't play the game. Maxis already learned that lesson once. It can be an OPTION to play on a larger map for those with more powerful PCs, NOT that it would take a more powerful PC for most 95% of anyone playing the game because this is not a hugely draining game. My laptop which is 6 years old and not top of the line can play SC and use 60% of the CPU and Ram. This is marketing, nothing more. They want to market towards the same people that they market Sims to. This was planned from the start focusing highly on DLC in order to keep making the game good enough to be worth the cost of a $60 AAA title game in the end. This is why they have moved their streaming videos to 10am on weekdays. This is marketing, understand that, understand I have been in the marketing game for 15 years. I know how things work.

For anyone interested. http://tiny.cc/r0t86w If there's a sale on the cities of tomorrow anywhere please post it here. I wouldn't mind trying it but I wouldn't pay more than $15.

Cities of Tomorrow is on sale for 50% off today. Still can't bring myself to buy it though.

If you believe such a lie that larger maps are impossible I have a big red bridge to sell you. There's probably never been a more absurd lie in gaming history, ever.

The State of Simcity - EA/Maxis speaks
Catchin22 replied to baertooth's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Bro, I have some good ideas about how to create massive cities. I can help you work on the engine. Just shoot me a line. I'm a designer not a programmer. I will be looking for programmers in the future. If you have ideas you can PM me. I already have a lot of framework laid out but there's a lot to do yet. -
The State of Simcity - EA/Maxis speaks
Catchin22 replied to baertooth's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
They can't / wont make them larger because their ONLINE mode, the servers couldn't handle the extra load and they aren't willing to nix it. Not only that but the game is so incredibly boring that people are willing to spend money on DLC in the HOPE it can be better, making large city maps offline would negate most people having to purchase DLC. I no longer have a bit of respect for Maxis. To me they are toast. I have decided I will be forming a game company to build a new city simulator, I'll be running a kickstarter on it by early next year. -
Should I buy SimCity (2013)?
Catchin22 replied to Fatherted's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
No, it's not. Come back when / if the maps are ever increased, there's offline mode and all the bugs are fixed. Until then it's not worth it, I don't consider this even to be SimCity, or worthy of the name. -
New Expansion Pack in November - Cities of Tomorrow
Catchin22 replied to macscfan's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
EA releases Cities of Tomorrow, can't fix Cities of Yesterday. This is becoming a big joke. -
I have to say, the new road tools have really breathed some life into this game. I found myself addicted to it tonight building all sorts of bridges and tunnels, lots of fun! They are on the right track with this update. I haven't used the single tree tool yet but that is something I have wanted for a long while. I feel like I can now recommend this game to friends for the $30 price tag. This game still has a ways to go to get to the $60 AAA title but I think if they make the maps larger and other things everyone's been wanting it will be a huge huge hit.

Great Work Not Acknowledged?
Catchin22 replied to PatternRec's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Yes the best thing to do is build your GW with the FIRST city you build. Do not start another city until it is built. Then after you claim another spot set your speed to cheetah, do not build or zone a thing and go watch TV or something. If you come back and it's not showing yet, repeat. -
If you think Update 7 fixed traffic issues your city / region hasn't grown very large yet. You'll still have a ton of traffic issues with large cities in your region. The problem mostly comes down to no one ways. That means no on ramps or off ramps. That causes a massive traffic backup. The tunnels and bridges can help but it's not a solution to everything. Incoming traffic through one inlet is still going to be an issue no matter what until they provide one way roads or off / on ramps. I'm happy for this update but it only amplifies the need for larger maps. It shows what potential this game CAN have, it's getting to be more fun but at the same time the city sizes are becoming even more restrictive with the addition of bridges and more complex and fun roadway. Additionally the game is still broke in many other ways. Great works don't work great, or at all often. Sending and receiving resources is unreliable as well as the online cloud system, there's still a chance of losing your entire city ruining your entire region. Simcity is still a Jet Fighter with a Prop engine. Until they make these maps at least 4 times as large and remove mandatory online, that's how it will remain.

Anyone know what was in the update today?

Yes I agree, I did try waiting it out but I think my city would have fell apart completely before I could work it out. -

Catchin22 replied to lighting957's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
My two main cities were basically ruined with this patch. My traffic was managed well before so with 180k population I had no traffic issues, not so after the patch! My power all of a sudden was being used up and coal not delivered, recycle center stopped working as well. Oh well, time to start a new region from scratch. -

Catchin22 replied to lighting957's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
We should probably expect the servers to be unplayable due to traffic until about the mac release, and then not playable again for a month. These guys have NO clue how to update servers, there should be no downtime at all. I don't know what business they have in the business of online services but they have a lot to learn in managing servers. -
