He has always existed. The same can't be said of the universe. Do you believe in God, Meg?
-
Well, the Big Bang happened. Before that? Anything that happened before the Big Bang could not affect what happened after it - singularities are interesting like that. We cannot observe before that moment in time. Science cannot say what, if anything, preceded the Big Bang. That is purely the realm of the philosopher. Of course, "before" the Big Bang isn't actually a sensible concept, since both time and space didn't exist before it, but it's a phrase I have to use in order to make any sense whatsoever. If scientists can't say what preceded the Big Bang, why are some so quick to dismiss God as having been the cause of it? I've read that scientists now believe the laws of physics could have allowed the universe to come into existence on its own, without any cause. But then, where did the laws of physics come from which allowed that to happen? See, to me it doesn't matter what scientists say about creationism versus evolution. The ultimate reality is that God created it. Nothing will, or could, ever dissuade me from what I believe about that....not even the "brightest and most brilliant scientific mind" in the world. Anyway, I just wanted to express my opinion. But I know it's an unwelcome one, so carry on with your discussion.

Sometimes the fewer the words, the better. I don't always want to get into a debate, but still like to post a personal comment. It wasn't a "one liner", as if I was baiting someone for a response. I wasn't expecting any particular response. That's a presumption on your part. I was giving my opinion....this is a situation of man trying to play God. If someone wants to express their simple opinion about something, then so be it. If they wish to expound upon it, they will. But please, instead of accusing my opinion of being extreme, perhaps it would have been better if you'd first asked what I meant by my comment. EDIT: Toned down my response.

Question: How did the universe come into existence?
-
Actually, they are. I just double checked Berlin, Fairview, London, New York, San Francisco, Timbuktu...each one has a config.bmp file. Double check your Regions folder to see if you have them.

You downloaded a pirated copy of the game, and you're having problems? I can't imagine why. <end sarcasm> You're not going to get any help from anyone here, because Simtropolis doesn't support piracy. Read #6 in the Rules of this website, which you're supposed to abide by if you want to post here.

I didn't make this one up, but I always thought it was cute.... Why did the bubble gum cross the road?
-
This may be a stupid question, but........ What causes car/bus/truck accidents? Do Sims have a lead foot and not watch where they are going? Do their brakes fail? Are STOP signs obstructed by shrubs, causing them to turn in front of oncoming traffic? It seems like I'm hearing a lot of *SCREEEEEECH....KA-POW!* going on. Occasionally I see cars spinning out across the road and hurtling into buildings. Is this just a "reality" feature built into the game, or is it an indication that I'm laying out my road network incorrectly?

I believe this feature is currently only available in the "Technical Issues" forums: E.g. SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues SimCity (2013) Problems & Technical Issues The option is provided to the topic author, who can decide which answer was the most helpful in solving the problem. This can make it easier for other people, to quickly find a solution to a similar issue. Ohhhhhh.....I gotcha. Somehow I thought you could do it in any forum. Thanks for letting me know!

I'm sure the OP didn't mean to offend anyone, but just in case...yeah, it would be appropriate to change the title.
-
Okay. Well, I'll let a moderator do what they need to do. For my part, the issue is resolved.....Z1 gave the answer I found most helpful, but thanks to everyone for all your responses.
-
Thank you. Question answered. Another stupid question, from the king of members who shouldn't express their opinion about anything: How do you mark a thread as "Answered"? I don't know what to click so I can mark someone's response as the "Best answer".
-
That's a little extreme, don't you think? If we were not to be playing with genetics, we would never have found out about it. No, I don't think it's extreme at all. You don't even know what I had in mind when I said that. If you don't like my opinion, don't respond to it. I am entitled to it after all, aren't I? And why did you not attack Konstantin for his remark about it being a bad idea? Oh wait, that's right....whenever lhrob opens his mouth and offers an opinion, it must automatically be wrong. I get it now. Duhhhh....I should have known better. Carry on with your discussion, everyone. Sorry I burped and interrupted it.

Man trying to play God.

Larryparadise, I think it might be I'll let Blunder correct me if I'm wrong.
-
@Blunder....I know this is off-topic, but which terrain/rock mod are you using in this picture.....I assume that's the same one you're using in The Ring of Fire?

Negative Demand For Dirty Industry - Rezone?
lhrob replied to NeufNeuf's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
It's not required, but highly recommended that you first demolish all the buildings in your industrial zones before installing the IRM. There are several reasons for that - the first of which is because if you install it without bulldozing anything, the new buildings can sometimes grow in such a fashion that they overlap adjacent areas such as transit systems, empty terrain, or other lots which already exist. So by bulldozing it all and allowing it to regrow, you'll avoid that. Second, when you bulldoze it all and allow it to grow back, the dirty industry will be separate from the high-tech. That means you can comfortably zone high-density industrial zones without worrying about pollution. The only zones which will be producing pollution will be the medium-density zones. And even then, I'd like to highly recommend that you download and plop some here and there throughout your medium density industrial zones. Trust me - these things work really well. They will remove the pollution, which will help raise the desirability of surrounding zones. -
Not sure what the problem is. Can you clarify?
-
I know I'm late in joining this thread, but just wanted to clarify this answer. I-HT DOES grow on med. density zones, along with I-M and I-D. And while it's possible for I-D and I-HT to share a zone (med. or high density), the desirability factors for I-HT make it very unlikely. With TWreck's Industrial Revolution Mod, that combination is impossible but you'll still see I-M mixed with both other types. To answer the OP's question (whether to bother zoning high density industrial), I personally never used to bother before installing the Ind. Rev. mod. Now that I have to use high-density to get high tech, I'm seeing many more large factories instead of the usual sea of smokestacks and tanks. So, it is worth zoning for. You're absolutely correct, and I thank you for catching my mistake. The message I was trying to convey is that you should strive for high-wealth industry - which is generally more associated with high-density zones. Somehow my brain got confuddled as I was trying to express that message. Actually, I need to remember that there is dirty industry, manufacturing industry, and high-tech industry. Sometimes I refer to manufacturing as dirty industry, even though it's different. So I'm sure that was partially what was coursing through my head when I left my initial response. I need to be more cognizant of that differentiation. Anyway, when using the IRM, you actually get both high-tech industry and manufacturing in high-density zones - but you will NOT get dirty industry in high-density zones when using it. At any rate, our message is the same.....yes, you should zone for high-density industrial.

Believe it or not, some trees take up to 30 years to reach full growth. So 5 years isn't particularly unusual.

It's weird. But I don't download a whole lot anymore these days, so I can deal with it. Thanks for the input.

Negative Demand For Dirty Industry - Rezone?
lhrob replied to NeufNeuf's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Follow A Nonny Moose's advice first before you do anything. After you install the update to your game, try playing again to see how things work out for you. You will also want to consider getting the NAM, because it might help resolve some of your issues. After that, try going with the Industrial Revolution Mod I suggested. -

Something's definitely "off" with the STEX download speeds. I've been downloading a few things this afternoon, and in one instance I started downloading a file which was 634K, which should have only taken a few seconds for me to download, but it was going really slow. So while it was downloading, I started to download a separate custom file at the same time, which was 2.7M...megabytes...and it finished downloading before the smaller file did. This is obviously not a problem on my end.

Negative Demand For Dirty Industry - Rezone?

Sometimes I think we all assume we are, but you're right....we need to first find out which version the OP has. Good call! Thanks for reminding us.
