A smooth coastline with a barrier island, plenty of flat land, a large bay fed by two main rivers, and mountain ranges to the east and west make up the landscape of Plantation Bay. This map is 1537x1537 (24km x 24 km) in size, making it larger than the average map. However, it is not large enough to be a problem for rendering on almost any computer. The included config.bmp file is made up of a mix of all large and medium sized maps. This map was originally based off a USGS DEM of the Morro Bay, California area, but was extensively modified by hand and rotated for a different effect. Here are the links to a couple of larger pictures of Plantation Bay: 800x419 picture: http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/7715/plantationbay1vf.jpg 3050x1599 picture: http://img463.imageshack.us/img463/3259/plantationbayfull1mq.jpg Enjoy! -

Washington, D.C. Map Overview This map covers all of Washington, D.C., USA and its surrounding areas. It goes past the city's beltway, and covers much of Maryland andVirginia. It is very accurate and is also very close to exact scale. The bodies of water on this map include the Potomac River, AnacostiaRiver and Rock Creek. The elevation data is accurate as well. Forexample, the steep slope from the Potomac River to the Georgetown areaof Washinton appears accurately on this map. Although from the pictureof the map, this map looks more like a flat land vs. water rendition,it is certainly not. These elevations, as said before, are accurate andrealistic. Scale It is an area which is 32 by 32 kilometers in the game, or around 20 by20 miles. This translates into around 1,074 kilometers square or about415 miles square. The map's size is 2049 by 2049 pixels. The actualarea this map takes up, before being converted so it could be used inSimCity 4, is closer to 34 by 32 kilometers. Thus, this map is veryclose to exact scale. Building an accurate, to-scale replica ofWashinton, D.C. will be possible on this map. Config The config file included for this map is 32 by 32 kilometers. Thistranslates into 2049 by 2049 pixels. It is twice the size of thestandard region, but worth it. You can choose to download the configfile, or make your own for this region. Author's Notes Washington, D.C. maps are very hard to make due to odd things with sealevel and missing DEM data. Luckily, I was able to make this accuratemap of DC. It's the first DC map that I'm aware of that covers thedistrict and all of its suburbs past the beltway. Have fun with it! Special Thanks to the Mapp Squad Thismap was developed by the Mapp Squad. If you are interested in join theMapp Squad, please post in our thread in the Simtropolis Related Forum. Please expect even more maps in the near future. Feel free to post comments and rate this map. Set deep in the interior, Alpine Lakes boasts an abundance of rivers, lakes, and mountains along with an ample supply of flat land. It is a favorite vacation spot, with activities ranging from whitewater rafting, canoeing, camping, hiking, and fishing to swimming, boating, backpacking, and many more fun outdoor activities. The crystal-clear spring water of the region is another reason why tourists keep coming back. The oppurtunities in the Alpine Lakes region are endless, so it is up to you to decide its future..... Note: This map is originally based on a DEM of the Canton, Maine area, but it was heavily modified to include a better variety of terrain features, and for playability in the game. The region is 1409x1345 pixels in size, making it just a bit larger than the standard 1025x1025 region. A config.bmp file specifically for this map has been included. Added 6/22/06: Here is a link to a larger-sized picture of Alpine Lakes, if anyone's interested: http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/7861/alpinelakes4el.jpg -
Hello, and welcome to Ocean Point! Ocean Point is a real improvement over my Tropicale region. I was happy with Tropicale, and it was a successful cj. But Ocean Point is the region I have my goals set very far for. It isn't the same as most of my other regions, but I know one thing: Most of you will probably like it a lot more than even Tropicale. Ocean Point takes after my first big cj, Ocean Cove-Palm Shores Region, in the way that it does not have a grid, except for a small amount in the immediate downtowns of cities and towns, and I am putting a lot of emphasis on my transportation networks and districts within the cities in the Ocean Point region. It will also take after Tropicale, though, in the fact that it will be a really nice looking region. It already is coming along great. Its got a lot more medium and high wealth sims than my previous regions, which helps the eye appeal of the cities a lot. In the Ocean Point region, I have at least begun to build up most of the towns and cities in the region already, while the region is relatively small. I'm not sure if Ocean Point will ever have many skyscrapers, but even if it doesn't, you can still expect eye candy screenshots. Basically, I've been developing the suburbs (Which in this region are really important towns in themselves) at the same time as the larger cities, rather than building the other towns after the main cities are well developed. I'll provide several pictures of the city of Ocean Point. Its the largest city in the region. Its stats: Residential...........50,771 Commercial..............21,178 Industrial...........17,248 Regional Population............178,445 As you can tell from those stats, there are plenty of cities and towns besides the main city of Ocean Point. Now for the pictures. Downtown Ocean Point sits on a barrier island, but parts of the city are on the mainland across the bay. The Pinewood River flows east into Ocean Point, where it joins the bay and empties into the ocean. This first picture is of the main portion of Ocean Point, on the island. Downtown is visible at the bottom right of the picture. The island keeps going a little further south than that. To give you and idea of its size and how much development is on the southern tip of the island, here's a picture of the South Point district, with some of the surrounding districts, including Downtown in the upper part of the picture. Next is a picture showing you how the bay and Pinewood River meet to empty into the ocean. Three bridges span here. The I-31 bridge is furthest north. The I-268 bridge is furthest south, and the Route 19 (Bay Boulevard) Bridge is furthest west, crossing the Pinewood River. I'll give you a much more detailed description of the main highways and interstates of the region soon. And finally, a picture of Downtown, close-up. I am using no cheats or mods at all in this region, like the rest of my regions. I'll show the regional satellite and transportation views soon. The transportation map is quite impressive because of the highway and avenue network in the region. Also, this region is completely, in-game hand terraformed.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. The southern expansion terraforming is complete: Comments, por favor.
-
Thanks for the compliments everyone. Not enough time to individually address each, sorry. I have the latest regional transportation picture below. I outlined the interstate highways, and overlayed the interstate signs on them like I always do. Enjoy. Just the transpo picture wouldn't be enough for this little update, so I'm providing a little teaser of the southern expansion area. It is a 4x6 (Medium city tiles) area, 24 new tiles in all. I have begun to terraform this area. This picture is just a little hint of what is to come with the southern expansion: Comments, as always, are very much appreciated. Expect the next update within a week.

Im Leaving ST...bye to all and thanks for everything

A few months ago, I stopped coming to ST. I've been a member here for well over 2 years, and I remember this place in some of its earliest days. I'm not sure if anyone remembers me anymore, but if you do, I hope you will appreciate this post. ST has been great to me, but all good things have to come to an end sometime or another, and I think it's time I moved on from ST. I would have posted a thread like this when I first left, but I'll admit that I was bitter at some members and just didn't feel like coming here again. I'd like to say sorry now to everyone for not announcing my departure from this site. I've come back to post this thread now because I just think it's the right thing to do. I'd rather not leave everyone hanging on whether I'm still here or not. I'm fully aware of the Leaving/Returning thread, but from what I've seen in that thread, it is more geared towards leaving for vacations and such, so I hope this thread in this forum is not a problem. I've changed a lot recently, and so has this site. I'm doing other things now and spending less time at the computer, and I just don't have the time or desire to put as much effort into the game as I used to. That being said, I'd like to thank all of the mods and admins, especially dirk, as he is, after all, the dirktator. I'd also like to thank all of the members of this site, for supporting my many CJs over the years and my maps in more recent times. It's been a blast, and it couldn't have been what it was without all of these great members here. One of these days I may decide to come back and maybe update my CJ, or something like that. I'm not sure if I will ever post here frequently again, but I think a visit every once in a while is definately a possiblily. Again, I'd like to thank everyone for making this place such a blast. Thanks, and bye. comdude -
Thanks for the compliments. Well folks, Ocean Point isn't completely history. Yet, that is. For now, it's still alive and kickin'. Like I said in my goodbye thread, I won't be active at ST anymore, but that doesn't mean that I'm leaving for good. Occasional updates will probably still occur to Ocean Point. This update isn't too much....it's just the most recent regional satellite image. I excluded the southern expansion area from the picture, as I haven't started on that yet. The southern expansion is an area of about 4x5 medium maps or so that I have added on to the southern tip of the region. It's not terraformed yet, but I have some big plans for it. Enough talk for now, here's the picture: I'm hoping to provide updates on a monthly basis or so. Look out for that southern expansion.

It's been a few months since I posted this thread, but I knew I'd be back to visit sometime. First of all, let me thank everyone for their great posts in this thread. It's been really good and feels great to see the amount of support I've recieved in this thread. Upon my return, I noticed that I have recently recieved none other than a 2005 Trixie! Seeing the trixie was a great surprise for me. The Trixie I recieved was for my map, Coastal Highlands, as best playable map. I'm honored and flattered to recieve this award, so I'm extending a big thank you to everyone who voted for/nominated it for the trixie. In addition, I was pleased to see that I was nominated for best city planner, another surprise. As for my CJ, Ocean Point, I will try to get out an update within the next couple of days. I've taken a look at the CJ section and wow, there is some amazing new stuff there. Ocean Point hit its peak many long months ago, and I use an old-school approach with it that I've been using since I started my first CJ over 2 and a half years ago, so I don't expect it to ever be what it once was again; however, if any followers of it are still around, look out for a new update. In addition, I may make more maps if I have the time. Mapmaking is a lot fun for me, and the occasional map is not out of the question. So while I don't think I'll become active here again, I do plan to continue to keep my word by coming back for visits every once in a while, visits like this one. Thanks again for the support everyone. -
Hey, long time no talk man. I decided to check out ST for the first time in maybe 3 months and I was glad to see you're back in the CJ scene. I'm coming back basically to say that I'm leaving and that kind of stuff because I never did that when I left in the summer. I'm not back to stay, I don't plan on it at least. This site and myself have changed too much for me to spend much time here. Maybe I'll drop by once in a while. But yeah, I thought it would be the right thing to do if I came back to actually let everyone know that I'm leaving. I've checked out some stuff on the site and I wasn't too surprised to see what happened to the Mapp Squad.....lol. Seems like you've changed too, good to see neither of us are addicted to this place like we used to be....we were pretty crazy then lol. So I guess that's it, I'll probably be around sometime again someday but goodbye for now. Well about the CJ itself, it's looking great and I'm getting a little urge to play the game now that I'm seeing it. Great work.

Mikeaut: I actually did leave this CJ from last September until January, over five months, so I don't have a big problem with doing that. However, I don't think ST will ever be the same as it used to be again. With the sig links to CJs, there are 5 or 6 that have Ocean Point in them but most of them are, like you are, the good followers that have stayed with this CJ for a long time. I'm not big on the sig links to other ppl's CJs, but that's just me, because those are new. Don't worry if you're not commenting as much as before. I don't spend more than maybe 30 minutes on ST a day now anyway, so I understand. If I do keep working on OP or start a new region, I would probably be willing to PM you pictures of it if I do decide to suspend this CJ. jacqulina: Thanks, but for the reasons above, I don't know if I'm going to keep going with this or not.
-
TMS: Yeah, it sucks but I guess it's just the way it goes. This place will never be like it was in 2003 but at least it's still here. rufusleeken: Lol, I'll admit that most of that stuff that I posted was just a bunch of excuses for a general lack on interest (goes to edit post), but in short, I don't like people leeching off my work. Thanks for the compliments btw.
-
It looks great so far. It's great to see nice CJs being made of my maps. BTW, could you put in the first post just a quick line saying this is the Coastal Highlands map by comdude21? Thanks, I would really appreciate that.
-
Thanks for the compliments Mexicanboy and TMS. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ EDIT: Ok, I'll say it a little shorter this time. First, this CJ may be suspended soon and if I stop posting here, it might be done for good. Second, let me say this. If you want to leech off this CJ without replying back, get the heck out of here. You're ruining all the fun for everyone else.
-
Thanks TMS. At least somebody replied. I'm still not sure about the NAM yet and I'm not sure about the future of this CJ either. I don't know whether or not I will continue to update before the southern expansion terraforming. For now, expect to see at least some of the southern expansion terraformed in an update by next weekend.
-
Just checking back here. I'm surprised there aren't any comments, but that's the way it goes these days. Anyways, yes, there will be a sporadic update here and there this summer. The southern expansion will be a slow process. I may fool around with the NAM, which I'm taking a look at now.

List of Maps You want Pre-Rendered

Thanks for the great compliments everyone, I very much appreciate them as always. toxicpiano: No, for three reasons: 1. What you have in mind isn't very realsitic for Pinewood Flats. 2. I don't have the plopp mod (And I won't get it either) so I have no control over the sizes of buildings save for zoning. 3. If you specifically want CS$$, look at the picture of downtown Pinewood Flats. To All: I won't be around from later today until Friday. So, the first southern expansion update probably won't come for 10 days or so.

Thanks for the compliments everyone, it's great to see those comments after posting an update. Here is part two of the Pinewood Flats update:

Thanks for the compliments everyone, as always I very much appreciate them. Now on to the next update- not the southern expansion just yet, as that will take a good deal of time to terraform and such, but on Pinewood Flats in the western part of the region. This town (Pop. 7,543) has become a wealthy suburb in its quiet location Pinewood Flats used to be completely undeveloped, save for I-68, North Pinewood Ave. and a couple of other roads running through it. Now, it's a thriving town. The suburban sprawl in the towns bordering Pinewood Flats, which are Great Bend to the south and Marshland to the east, has helped Pinewood Flats grow. Before it was developed, Pinewood Flats looked like this, a barren, empty land covered in pines and oaks: Pinewood Flats has since grown into the sprawling, yet quiet town that it is now. It is far enough from Ocean Point to have much activity, but it is close enough for commuters to go to and from both locations, which have helped to make it a very wealthy town. The first subdivision that was built in Pinewood Flats, The Woods at Pinewood Flats, has two gazebos at its entrance, along with gardens leading to nice homes. It also has two tennis courts that only residents and their guests are allowed to play on: Marshland Rd. has become a main road in Pinewood Flats, and it is important enough to get its own I-68 exit. For years a simple bridge crossed the highway for the road, but now, there is a complete exit interchange for the road: The Pinewood Flats Industrial Park, located in the northeastern part of town, is the only industrial area in the entire town: Pinewood Flats Trees and Shrubs Inc. has set up in eastern Pinewood Flats, boasting a nice farm with plenty of plants: Part Two of the Pinewood Flats update is slated for tomorrow.

How could you not know how to do this yet???? You're our leader! The map has to be, well, how should I put this.... proportional to its config.bmp file. For example: 1281x1281 greyscales translate into a 20x20 config.bmp 2048x2048 greyscales translate into a 32x32 config.bmp 4096x4096 greyscales translate into a 64x64 config.bmp You have need to have a 961x961 greyscale image in order to fit on the region that you're using, as it appears in the picture. You will either need to resize the config.bmp file, or make the greyscale image a square and with dimensions of 961x961. Either way, you will have to cut off at least a small portion of your map. I hope this helps, but really, you're our leader and don't know how to do this? I can't beleive it.
