I want to do 20x20 zoning in a new region but i'm having a hard time getting it to develop because it's obviously a new region. I want to do this type of zoning so that i can put down 16 Large Parks in the middle like in this screenshot. I would like to do this for Industry and Commercial aswell and would like to do this layout for the whole map size hopefully without having to demolish later on or very little if any. Any help is gladly appreciated.

^ I like zoning 4x4 so this is why i wanted to do this layout. Whenever i did 4x4 lots i would leave some 4x4 lots for parks but in the 4x4 i could only place one 3x3 and then place 1x2 or 1x1 parks. I was just trying to put in a bunch of parks and zones together to save space so that roads don't take up too many tiles.

I know they won't grow right away what i'm asking is how much do i have to do for this layout to actually grow.

I started from scratch again and playing on the large sized map. I filled out the outer portion of my layout with agriculture but the RCI bar shows infinite demand of agriculture. Now since i filled out the map with all the agriculture zoning i want i just need to know if theres a mod to increase the jobs. I read about the Industry Quadrupler Mod but read that it doesn't affect Agriculture.

Palm Avenue with no Avenue
-
I had read somewhere that 4x4 was the highest and largest buildings. Now i just read that for industrial there is much larger ones than 4x4. I wanna know what the largest zone is for each type so if i have to i can stop making every type 4x4.

Normally i would always make cities with Avenues only that way i wouldn't have to go back and redo the roads network. I would also use One Way roads aswell from time to time. However i was looking over the prima guide and noticed that Avenue holds more capacity but has lower travel speed while One Way Roads have faster speed and lower capacity. These are the stats according to the Prima Guide 2500 Capacity and 40 kph 2000 Capacity and 46 kph Wouldn't a One Way Road each way in that same 2 tiles over the the avenue be much better. I mean 2 One Way Roads (one each way) would hold a total of 4000 capacity and have a faster travel speed over an Avenue which holds 2500 and travels at 40kph. Wouldn't Two One Way roundabouts next to each other do a better job over an avenue or am i missing something like perhaps longer commute times. I use roundabouts so i reduce traffic time by removing intersections by using roundabouts. I'm curious about both when it comes to making 4x4 zones in your entire city and how they would work if using roundabouts aswell. Like for instance i have one city that is all Avenue Roundabouts and another city that is only One Way Roundabouts. However the one way roundabout city does not have 2 one way roads next to each other as the one way roads are 6 tiles apart with the 4x4 zone in between them. However i did start a new city using One Way Roads next to each other to form a roundabout essentially making Avenue Roundabouts but with Two One Way Roads.

What Size are the largest buildings

I was referring to have a balanced city of RCI not a specialized Residential Medium Sized Map with nothing other than Residents. -
What Size are the largest buildings
wilmer007 replied to wilmer007's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Yeah it's hard to guess what the record or max population of a city is but i had around 200k pop on a medium sized map on medium difficulty and i had about 25% left to fill in. That was using only 4x4 tiles so i had to download mods for civic buildings that had lot sizes of 4x4. Out of the box without any mods i would imagine the most a medium sized map can hold is 500k population. But like i said it's hard to get a good estimate without mods without actually setting up 3 cities (one for each type) and doing it all legit like maxis intended. -
Question about Avenues and One Way
wilmer007 replied to wilmer007's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Well Prima guide said 2.5 hrs but i guess they lied again. Not like it matters cuz i would be RCI next to each other to lower commute times and thats how i mange to keep a 0.2 Commute Time. -
Question about Avenues and One Way
wilmer007 replied to wilmer007's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Do that and it still won't work. Trust me. With the exception of AVE and MHW, traffic going between two cities must enter and exit from the same exact tile, and the tile must be bidirectionally pathed to do that. This is why multi-tile override networks (TLA-5 or RHW-4, for example) have NC pieces, because they make all the tiles bidirectionally pathed and connect them all together. OWRs only have paths going in one direction, so even using that "trick" (which is absolutely useless), you will NOT get a functioning neighbour connection. Unless, that is, you use a Loop Connector... Well you can always not build OWR for the particular section. Like if you have say 4x4 zones along the edges of the map you can just leave them as roads or avenues but everything else thats within the inter city limits can just be OWR so you can make them effective. So which is better overall for Maxis Traffic and which one is better overall for NAM Traffic? I still think OWR are the best overall for either Traffic Simulator. -
Question about Avenues and One Way
wilmer007 replied to wilmer007's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
They only make the automata move better; actual traffic is unaffected by whether it passes through a roundabout or an intersection. Yes, the Prima Guide does say that. It's wrong (not for the first time). My source is the game itself. The Prima Guide says that the OWR speed is 46 kph for cars, while actually it is 31 kph - the same as for roads. Where did the 46 come from? It's the speed of buses on OWRs, which is also the speed for buses on roads. Of course, all of this applies only to the Maxis traffic simulator, which you really don't want to use. Trust me. I"m using Maxis Traffic Simulator for the challenge. Once cities get bigger i'll use NAM Traffic Simulator. I find NAM Traffic Simulator not only less challenging but unrealistic. Maxis by default set a sim to travel no more than 2.5 hrs to get to work which reflects real life conditions. NAM Traffic extends that to 10 hrs not only making it super unrealistic but making the game much easier to build. No sim in their right mind (except truckers) would travel 10 hrs to get to work. When i do the dual OWR with a roundabout i use the 2x2 in the middle of the roundabout to place medium sized parks. The round about leaves a 1x2 in between roundabouts which is where i place 1x2 parks then later i remove the 1x2 parks to place a subway and bus. Also about the neighbor connections you can just build a road at the edges of the map to make the connection and then after the connection is made you can just drag OWR of the road. The road then converts into a OWR but with the neighbor connection. -
Question about Avenues and One Way

Roundabouts remove intersections they just take up more tiles but help traffic flow much better, also the prima guide says that OWR travels faster than avenues so you are incorrect. -
What Size are the largest buildings
wilmer007 replied to wilmer007's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I don't really care about repetition. I just want to set up my grid so that they have the highest lot size. For example if a 4x4 holds 6000 residents and i can fit 40 4x4s on the map all looking identical then i know i can reach a population of 240k. My goal is to just reach the highest population possible on the map size without using lot size mods or anything out of what maxis provided. -
Question about Avenues and One Way
wilmer007 replied to wilmer007's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
You guys haven't helped much. What i want to know is why would the game want you to use Avenues when One Way Roads not only hold more capacity if put next to each other but the travel speed is faster too. -
I don't really want to start another neighbor city but if i have to let me know. I finally decided to give Hard Difficulty a shot (due to this i'm having trouble getting growth. Anyways this is on a small sized map and my layout is using nothing but Avenue Roundabouts and zoning 4x4 within the roundabout. Using this layout i can only get 3k population (currently at 2600 population). They have everything (fire, police, education, health). Their EQ is at 160 EQ and their Life Expectancy is 90. I currently only bring in about 100 a month in my budget so i'm just breaking even pretty much. My cash is at $133k. Commute Time is also just under 0.2

I am actually on a new small map and testing out One Way Roads from the start and using One Way Roads in place of Avenues. So instead of using the Avenue Roundabout i'm using One Way Roundabouts. Each roundabout has two one way roads (one for each direction), essentally turning it into an avenue but holds more capacity and has higher travel speed. This new city is currently at 9k pop (all low wealth) and brings in $200 a month. One way roads costs the same as roads and are way cheaper and better than avenues. It doesnt take long for streets to require needing to be upgraded so i might aswell start with one way roads to begin with. Honestly it looks like One Way Roundabouts are the best way to go and u can have two one way roads (pointing in opposite directions) within a single roundabout. It's cost effective and really helps improve your traffic network.

The city consists of only medium and high wealth. I set the taxes of everything that is $ to 20%. Even after going back and lowering the taxes back to default 9% they still wouldn't develop. I also went back and zoned for high density rows of residental, commerical and industrial and that did nothing. Every tile has pipes and the water pumps are also not over capacity either. This is what my layout looks like for the map (keep in mind this is all 4x4 zoning): RRRR CICI RRRR CICI RRRR As you can see for every 8 Residential 4x4s i have 4 Commerical and 4 Industrial. This keeps commute times very short as they can walk to work. Also between every 4x4 zone there is an avenue roundabout in every corner, In other words a 4x4 zone also has 4 Avenue Roundabouts.

How Do You Organize Your Plugins Folder?
wilmer007 replied to Sepen77's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I just create a new folder for that specific mod, that way i can find it quickly if i need to remove or add to it. Something like NAM which has different addons to it i'll make a new folder within NAM for like the Real High Way Mod or something like that. If i have a big type of mod like say a million different police stations i'll create a Police Station Mod Folder and throw all the Police Station folders into it for quickly locating all the Police Station mods. Usually what i do is make a backup plugin folder for every type of mod i download. Then when i want to use that specific mod i copy and paste the folder over to the plugin folder. However i try to keep to playing the game as Maxis intended so i have only a handful of mods (specifically just 4x4 buildings since i zone 4x4 only).- 57 Replies

Skipping the dirty/manufacturing/low-wealth commercial service phase
wilmer007 replied to William Gates's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Sorry for replying to a month old topic but i had to put in my 2 cents on this. When i first saw this i thought it was a dream come true as i just want to bypass the low wealth and go straight to medium and high wealth demand. I did a number of different tests and i always ended up going bankrupt by the time the population had a 160 EQ (not to much mention i couldnt break 1k or 2k population either. I would use a neighbor map to provide electricty and that still wasn't enough to cut the budget down. When i check further a porition of my budget was going into Transportation Dept which meant roads, However i recently started using 4x4 avenues in my city so i don't have to redo the entire road structure later. If i didn't start with Avenues i could probably do this but after much testing i came to the conclusion that it just wasn't gonna work for my particular buiding method. However i did figure out how to achieve this without taking a hit to population or money. Basically what i did was that i had a city already built before i started testing this. It was a Business/Residential City with a population of 200k on a medium sized map in a checkerboard pattern and i still had a portion of the map that is empty and hasn't been touched. What i did in this city was that they had everything except Education. This made their EQ like 0-20. What this did was made them basically retarded just so i can keep the budget even every month so i wouldn't go bankrupt. Naturally this meant they could only work in Dirty Industry. What i ended up doing was filling up the entire neighbor map (medium size too) with Dirty Industry. This Dirty Industry Map also provided power to both cities using Coal Power Plants. Anyways after my fail testing in a new map failed hard i went back to my main city (the checkerboard Commercial/Residential City) and gave it the full Education System. I was losing about 1k-2k every month as a result but i wanted to build up their EQ and i had about $333k in cash to last me till they reach a high EQ. Next thing i knew everything started building higher and higher and i started raking in a profit every month. Now i'm sitting at $5k profit every month. My rich sims already demanded 3 private schools and i have all the High Tech Industry Demand i ever wanted as it is at 6k demand. Now i'm just gonna start a new Neighbor Map next to this one for the High Tech Industry City. So what this means is that now after i spent the entire game filling in my city and giving them all a very low EQ i can now bypass the low wealth and go for Medium and High Wealth in my entire Region. In short while it seems very much possible to do this if using low cost roads and streets it wouldn't work for someone like me who only builds Avenues in his cities so Roads and Streets never see the light of day for these players. To be able to fully get this to work you need to first a bankroll higher than what your starting cash is. A good benchmark is around $250k-$350k or more. This way when you add in the education system and your budget takes a hit iyou will have enough cash to last until they reach 160 EQ. TL:DR I made a 200k population with low EQ then gave them full education to give them 160 EQ. Now i have a super high workforce that is demanding $$ and $$$.
