the mystery building game E n t e r t a i n i n g S i m t r o p o l i s s i n c e 2 0 0 3 We're back! We lost our original topic, but with the help of some dedicated players we got our scoreboard back to where it was... thanks raindog, mies and simwario. Without further ado, let me explain the way the game works. If you're not familiar with it, please take your time to read this: In each round I'll post a picture of a building somewhere in the world. Your goal is to try and guess its location and name, and you'll be awarded points in the game's scoreboard when succesful. RULE #1: your guess can include the country*, city and building name. You might guess only the country; the country and the city; or you can try a complete guess. You can guess two countries/ cities/ buildings per post. RULE #2: when can you guess again? You must respect a 5-hour wait between your guesses. However, everyone's allowed to guess after I post a new picture or a hint (confirmation of correct country or city guesses are considered to be hints). Hints, by the way, will be posted after 10 wrong guesses. RULE #3: whenever someone gets 3 buildings in a row, that person is out for one round. This rule was created in an attempt to make the game more challenging to everyone by avoiding huge differences in the scoreboard. If you'd like to see a specific building in MBG, that's the time to request it. If you're out of the round, I'll post the building you suggested in it. Just PM me as soon as you post your possible 3rd consecutive right guess. Additional rules: don't spam, don't edit your posts, don't guess continents, be respectful. * in your country guesses, some details are to be observed: UK or Great Britain are invalid guesses (guess either England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland). The Vatican City is not in Italy (at least in this game). Your country guess should be Vatican. Now, let me tell you how our scoreboard works: You'll get 2 points for a correct country guess, 3 for the city and 5 for the building name. Complete answers are awarded with 2 extra points. Enjoy!

I know it's all about the 360 now, but I'm not done with the current generation of consoles... Anyway, now that game launches for the xbox will substantially drop each and every month, we don't have so many games to look forward to... one of the few I really want to get is Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, which wraps up what has been so far a great trilogy. Anyone else who has played the previous entries in the series and is planning to buy this one?

Being a big fan of Pharaoh (developed by the late Impressions Games, which later became Tilted Mill, or somethinglike that) I have to try this game out. It looks quite interesting, especially things like the fact that shops not only generate jobs, but also provide goods or services. Pyramid building was amazing in Pharaoh and I'm sure that will be the case in CoTN. I'll let you know if I find this game sitting in some shelf... looks like it's worth my hrad-earned money, unlike SCS (but that's probably EA's fault, not Tilted Mill's). My only concern is that my computer might not run the game... are there enough options to make the game run faster?

The logo looks hideous, and the one KnowitallSim showed would be much better off without the Big Ben... it seems like a drawing someone found in the Internet and poorly attached to a perfectly good logo with some lousy photoshopping... it isn't in the same perspective as the St. George's cross and the fading effect just doesn't work.

England couldn't care less. In fact, he was dropped from the English Team altogether after the World Cup. Try reading the Guardian (http://football.guardian.co.uk - best British football site)... they are just laughing about the whole thing. I can tell you Real Madrid are also relieved to get rid of him... 3 seasons at the team, astronomical salary, zero trophies.

One million dollars a week... not bad for a former football player. And yet he says he didn't do it for the money. By the way, I'm accepting donations to the "Save a MayorVieira" fund.

Rio... greatest city in the world. I visit it at least once a year. Nice pictures, btw.

I can't post any further clues without giving it away... and I think the last one was already easy enough. If you don't want this game to die, you'll just have to keep guessing. Eventually someone will get it right, I'm sure.

They all look generic to me... no personality whatsoever. They look like the many skyscrapers proposed, under construction or recently built in China, UAE and other countries desperate to show themselves and their growing economy to the rest of the world. The US (NY and Chicago in particular) have invented the skyscraper and have always been the parameter for others to copy in that matter. Why follow this wave of poor architecture and ruin NY's skyline in the process? One can argue that critics said similar things when the original complex was built, but those buildings had a personality of their own. They were something never seen before, and that's why the city grew to love them despite initially hating them. Minoru Yamasaki was not American, but in the end, nothing could be more New Yorker than those towers. They simbolized the city as much as so many famous landmarks that came before them... they were something you could only see there. Daniel Libeskind's design for the new WTC had that same quality. You don't see that anywhere. Those new designs? Without a good view of the surroundings, I'll have a hard time distinguishing New York from Shanghai, Taipei, Dubai or even London's new proposed downtown. But maybe that's just me. PS: Keep it clean, everyone... I don't want to close this topic because one or two people can't be civilized when dealing with a touchy subject.

Congratulations, amal81. Right Building. It is indeed The Craven Cottage, London, England. You get 5 points for that. This little piece of football history has been the home of Fulham FC since 1896. It's located between a park and the River Thames, and it owes its name to the residence of a certain William Craven, built in 1780 exactly where today we see the center of the pitch. A new cottage was built in 1905 (in a corner of the stadium), along with the red-brick styled Stevenage Road Stand that we see on the picture. Having celebrated its centenary in 2005, the Stevenage Road Stand had its name changed to Johnny Haynes Stand, a legendary player for the club that died in that same year. It still features the original wooden seats. The club's board of directors seems to be looking for a new home, despite fans' protests. Let's just hope Craven Cottage doesn't end up like Highbury, which will be redeveloped and converted into apartments, following the construction of the new Arsenal Stadium in Ashburton Grove. Out with the new and in with the old, I say. But hey, it's not all bad news... at least Brazil crushed Argentina last Sunday in the new stadium's (official) inaugural match. Conceived for military purposes, this is the last structure built by the Spanish within the city walls before the independence of Colombia. It also served as a prison and has recently been renovated to fit souvenir shops, bars and art galleries. The building features 47 archways and 23 vaults (bóvedas).
