  1. New Urbanism vs urban sprawl

Well haven't read all the posts so I may repeat someone... I come from Europe, to be excact Norway (northern Europe). My impression of the american transportation system is that it has evolved around cars. Here in Europe (wich has been populated/sivilized longer than US) most has either evolved around trains or well smaller roads. Examples: -In most big European cities you'll find tram lines that can take you almost to every destination in the city (except for the Airport wich is a newer invention and therefore is to be reached by either highway or train). You'll also find a good underground system in many cities, so walking to work is no big thing here... Here in Norway though, we mostly take the bus between work and home, or between home and a trainstation/tramstation/subwaystation. -In the US, you'll also find cities with tram lines or subways but, they are not half as much used. Here, the road rules, much because the american cities are newer and more planned, they are also mostly built on very flat ground, so it isn't hard to plan or build. You see here the very broad roads cut through the urban, and res sprawl like the tram system would in europe, or as an example Oslo. Don't misunderstand me now, we absoluteley have freeways too, but they mostly cut the cities in two or circle the city, instead of making a chessmap out of the city... I am sure many of you disagree with me, so please comment. And yeah, I think someone mentioned that Prague just ended abruptley, and then there was farms. This is normal in Europe, though, mostly lots of smaller cities encircle bigger cities, without being engulfed in them ,so after leaving a city like prague you'll see some farms, some city, some woods, some towns or another city and so on... (not a big deal, just wanted to support his statement).
  2. Sculpting Columbia River

Cool, nice rural and urban areas there jeronij, cool place. As always it's very, well spanish, heh or mallorcish ( ), heh, or so I believe cause I have never been to Spain or Mallorca. Just wondering; looks like your not using the Cycledogg's mod here, though you get it to look so nice. As I can see I kinda misunderstood you about those beaches, thought you meant the default maxis ones, cause they work with cycledogg's mod. Well I'm not much of a chatter so I'll just end with; - GREAT WORK DUDE! Take care!
  3. Maybury Region

Hmm,, thought I should post a pic of the region as it is now. A transport map ofcourse;... The region now has 324,461 sims and it is growing fast. growing fast you say? this Region is months old, well, I'm building realistically, or close to realistic, so cities don't pop up in one year, at least not here in Norway... hehe -And oh, heh saw now that I have forgotten to build a passenger port in Maybury city, oh my! hehe Well, later! Take care!
  4. Maybury Region

Thank you for your comments, always great to hear from you. I'll work more on South Maybury city so that I can finally finish it for the next update. So stay tuned, got some plans,... take care!

  6. The Worst City Journal EVER

HAHAH this CJ is great!!! MOre pictures!!
  7. Maybury Region

First of all... -YO, what's up with the comments? I'm not a quitter, so; UPDATE 16 ---Triton city--- So in this update I have taken a break from South Maybury city, to make a small neighbouring city (30,000 sims). This city is different, cause this time I took more time to check the terrain and how the placement of buildings fitted with the enviroment. All of this because of Cycledogg's mod, hehe... As always I'm not planning to talk to much, just enjoy the pictures, ok? Picture 16.1 -The city of Triton in all it's glory. As you can see, Triton is not a very big city, and my intentions are to keep it small, no reason to have towering skyscrapers here! Picture 16.2 -hmm.. well, the harbour area! Picture 16.3 -Moving westwards you'll see areas like Canoon harbour, and in the next two pictures the Reighton Heights. Picture 16.4 - Reighton Heights,... Picture 16.5 -Again Reighton Heights from another angle. Picture 16.6 -Further uptown, away from the city you'll find areas like this. ( to the south) Picture 16.7 -Nice Hi-tec area,.. Noticed now that I forgot to put some trees there to the right but... hey thats life! Picture 16.8 - Just a picture of a area to the south of Triton city. Well that was all for today, hope you liked this update. But dont forget to comment, always nice to hear from you guys/girls .. Well... Take care!
  8. The Waldorado

hahahahahaahah, blackbeard, blue boobs.. hehe the best comment ever. Nice building, but I do agree on that the colour could be less blue maby ?
  9. Cycledoggs terrain mod

Jeronij: Are you still having problems with beaches in SC4 with Cycledogg's mod? I am using PEG rock mod's Grey rock and have therefore deleted the CP_ColumbusBeachCliff.dat. Now beaches appear to be normal, just check out this picture: http://img181.echo.cx/img181/719/beach9un.jpg align=baseline> -Did you mean this, or did I misunderstand you? Maby you have already solved this, I don't know, but it may be of help for someone else then. Take care!
  10. Sculpting Columbia River

Oh yeah, very nice as always. How is it possible to always make such outstaning work? Well As I can see the PEG rock mod works perfectly with the Cycledogg's mod, have to try it out! Take care!
  11. Committee Election Section IX

  13. City of EDMONTON

-This CJ has always fascinated me, keep up the outstanding work!
  14. Cycledoggs terrain mod

Well yeah, the reconcile edges is different because of the difference in height that this mod has. Or thats what I have found out... Also watch out if you raise the terrain, heh cause it will raise much more than normal... and I have tried to change the size... But it is a great mod!
  15. HighwayNHevon

HEY! DUCKS ARE JUST AS GOOD AS BUNNYS! hehehe Well looks cooL! But I wont rate! Like what i'm seeing, Keep it up!
  16. City of La Salle

Very nice. But you should just copy the direct link you get from Imageshack and post them here so that we don't have to go to the imageshack site to see them... Still, very nice work!
  17. Bartopolis

oh man, yeah good job, looks very nice! good planning !
  18. V

wow yeah, I would love to see this one in my game.
  19. Cycledoggs terrain mod

Oh my, I do not no where to start! vanshnookenraggen: Well about the elevation, i think it has something to do with the mod, or it might have something to do with the mod. After reading the readme file for Columbia map (Cycledogg's), I found out that this mod alters the hight of a non-existant map. Like, when I tried to import a map, and then check out the cities after the rendering, I saw that his mod uses a different grayscale system. So I had to raise the land one notch to get it to work. -Or maby it's just what Jeronij said, heh, use the minimize and maximize tools... Mayorbean: Oh oK, see it now. Well i understand why you don't want to make it pubilc. Hopefully you'll get it to work . Cause it is a great mod. boggy1: No problem, wasn't much we could help with though. But if you read Cycledogg's reply you might get surprised that you may see some beaches in this mod very soon! Frogface: Dude, I couldn't agree more. It's just fantastic, and It will be even more fantastic when the new update comes to STEX. CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!! minimoose99: Well ok, thats the same problem as I had. Just check that you files are in the Simcity\plugins folder where you installed the game, and that you have deleted the other terrain mods. Then it should work, if not return so we might help you! jglei701: Oh man yeah, can't wait for the new mod either... *checking* --> *auch* ---> -ok this isn't a dream! Cycledogg: Oh yeah, the man him self, heheh. OK cause i'm going to check out how those PEG rock mods look. btw. are you thinking of making different rock and cliff textures (I mean more than those that are now)? -About those beaches, would it be possible to make that a separate file or so. Cause I personally would like to choose if I want a map with some beaches or if I want a map with normal rivers and stuff.. -MAN you have done a great work, SOOO MANY TREES! Oh, man hehe can't wait!!!
  20. Oahu S1

OK, see that your a starter, wich we all have been. Think about this: -how does real cities look? Check out some city maps that show the layout of some cities. Think about how your cities would be in the real world, where things should be placed. Take the church near the Airports for example. Where in the world do you see that? Mostly there would be Hotels or farms next to airports wouldn't they? Now don't take this wrong, I just wanted to open your mind a bit... Keep it up! And yeah, ALWAYS EXPERIMENT! Take care!
  21. Maybury Region

Well... UPDATE 15!! Wow, this is kinda big, new page, new update... Well, as you might have noticed the region lookes somewhat different now, and the reason is Cycledogg's awsome terrain mod! Even though my landscape might look different I'll still stick to the same gameplay that I have always done... But as you also might know, I'm not very fond of babbling about in my CJ so here is my new update!! View and development of South Maybury city Picture 15.1 -As you can see from this view I have started to build some more money making Commercial buildings on this thin stripe of land. The skyscrapers here are a part of the new Commercial area in Maybury, this just underlines the potetial of this region as a new metropolis. Picture 15.2 -Here is a small park close to the city hall on the left side of the picture, wich you can't really see but will be shown in the next update (probably)... Picture 15.3 -*drool* a picture of the soon to be very nice downtown area... Not much more to say really.. Picture 15.4 -Well this is a part of the city that I am very proud of! Just gotta love the Dhoppeii canal! And what building is that to the right? -Let's have a better look! Picture 15.5 -Hmm.. like the picture, but can't see what building that is! BETTER PICTURE PLEASE! Picture 15.6 -Ahh, now I can see, the atlantic plaza! What a great masterpiece, just love that building! Great building made by the master arcitecht group NDEX! *applause* Well hope that everyone enjoyed this, now to the readers: nofunk: Wow, dude thank you! Always a pleasure to hear such nice comments . -Yeah, like the canal too, hopefully you liked this update then? -Oh that building, it is made by a Japanese BAT'er. Try searching for Equinox in the STEX, cause he has uploaded some Japanese BAT
  22. Lewis and Clark Expedition

Yeah all credits to you man, you are the best! It is mods like this that keeps my interest in SC4, and wow, when you think about all those mods that are out there that makes the game 10x better, it just strikes me how bad the game must have been in the beginning... heh well not bad, but half as fun as it is with all this realism to it! Keep up the great work! PS! Maby you could help out on some questions in the thread about your mod: Cycledogg's Terrain Mod thread
  23. Cycledoggs terrain mod

Boggy1: Well, this is a mod that alters the enviroment in SC4. Some trees grow on slopes, wilst other grow next to water (and other stuff too.. ). The whole grass/cliff/waterside is altered too, so the whole game has a totally new feeling to it. -About your white beaches, well to behonest I don't know if they work with this mod. Jeronij is trying as good as he can to find a way to keep these beaches, and is therefore experimenting a bit. I usually use the beaches that I have downloaded of the STEX and that is why this doesn't bother me much. -You can certainly leave bits out, but some files MUST be installed. For example: Jeronij has left out the cliff file, so that he can use the PEG rock textures, or that was what I understood... Just check out the new update on Sculpting Columbia River and you'll see what I mean. jglei701: hmm.. Can that be altered? Or maby that isn't so bad at all.. Then there just has to be made a new file with the new trees? But that message was for jeronij, sorry but I just had to comment ... Mayorbean: So if you keep the CP_ColumbusPlayTerrainParameters.dat, then It will work? Are your terrain.dat and his exactly the same, or is it possible that some stuff would be altered??
  24. Maybury Region

MrCinatit: Good theory, heh, cause now when I'm playing I feel like a 6 year old with candy... Cammo2003: Well, they are part of a mod wich you can find on this site: Cyclepuppy/Cycledogg's Columbus It is a Terrain mod that alters the enviroment in SC4 to something totally different. The trees for instance grow on different areas, like the cottonwoods that mostly grow next to water or on a north facing hill... And, well.. just check it out. For help or more info check this thread out: Cycledogg's Terrain mod thread -Update will be up in a few hours! OMG!---PAGE 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
