Seems we're about on the same path, although you my friend are much farther ahead than me. It's quite the rigorous path academically, isn't it? I've barely just started but I expect the real hard work to hit pretty soon. That's an interesting statistic about the number of graduates who go onto graduate school, but it's not surprising. USF has a mere 45 seats available for their graduate school but every year around double that number of students will compete for it. Very competitive. You don't just slide into the profession of architecture; you have it or you don't. Oh yeah, it's very rigorous, and competitive; why do you think I stopped participating on this website when I got in? There's no free time at all! XD In a 5 year B ARCH program, first and second year in B ARCH are somewhat rigorous, but are nothing compared to say, 3rd 4th and 5th, with 3rd and 4th being described as the most difficult/rigorous years by many (YMMV). Expect many all-nighters, lost sleep, abuse of stimulants (your choice; I do not condone the usage of illegal stimulants!), weight gain and or loss, loss of social life outside of school, etc. Basically, you're going to have to be an absolute devotee to the cause, much like a monk or soldier. Oh, and all your other classes will have to take the back seat of the bus relative to STUDIO. You don't "work" in studio as much as LIVE in it. I've known people who don't leave the studio for several days in a row, especially near finals. There's a bunch of other stuff, but I don't want to frighten you away from architecture; the program itself already does a good job of that! And yes; architecture and archi schools are quite competitive; Rice University, for one, only accepts 30 students per year total, compared to say, 150 or more for typical middle to upper sized B ARCH schools. When it comes to portfolios, some schools are more demanding than others, particularly grad schools. Entry requirements for B ARCH are not as stringent, although some sort of academic portfolio may be helpful (along with other things, such as art, etc). So yeah, best of luck to you, and I hope you're not in for a surprise once the later years roll by! You're either "IT" or OUT!

Eleven months from graduating with a B ARCH/Bachelor of Architecture! Going to study abroad for a bit this year, as well. Went to community college for two yrs before attending for my B ARCH. Gonna be a total of 6.5 yrs in school for me once all is said and done. Damn, it's been a long time...lol And then, it isn't over yet. After you get your B ARCH, you have to do the IDP, which involves the internship years, and the actual Architecture Registration Exams, of which there are like 7. Most people with a B ARCH never take the exams to become a registered architect; they just continue on with their careers with the title of "Intern Architect". I do intend to become registered, and perhaps even attend graduate school for an M ARCH. Who knows; we'll have to see what happens over the next few years.

3/5 Frequent guest, haven't stayed here since a while back though; much has changed, and much has stayed the same. No reservations required. Affordable. Easy access to convention center, and business district. Free Parking. Great views of the surrounding city; stunning skyline, but sadly, the perspective was fixed. Easy access from freeway, although the ramp keeps being rebuilt quite frequently for no apparent reason. The hotel was quite crowded; some of the other occupants were quite noisy at odd hours in the night, but it wasn't too bad overall. It used to be much more active in the past. Spacious rooms. Large walk in closets. My room had a private bath, although some others had a communal bath. Hot tub had large donkey in it at all times. The artwork in the rooms and hallways consist of too many meme related pop works, such as lolcats and the like. The channels on the television seemed to be limited to Anime, Dr Who, The Weather Channel, and The Hub. Choppy reception for the Discovery Channel. News limited to CNN. Room service was normally a bit slow, and nonexistent at times, but relatively good when it was available. Used to be better, although they have had a history of inconsistency. Same goes for the WiFi reception. Hotel receptionist staff were warm, if a bit strange. They kept weird hours. Resident livestock consisting of llamas and sheep constantly roaming the grounds (watch your step). Managers were often unavailable, but were diligent to straighten out issues when present. Hotel gift shop has a good selection, although it is quite unorganized, and they have a lot of old merchandise on display. They no longer carry some items that they used to, but I never bought those, anyway. Hotel restaurant run by moose. Resident chef will gladly take your orders, but don't show an attitude if it isn't as you like. Beer on tap limited to Molson. Continental breakfast runs out quickly, especially on weekends. Food is decent, but sometimes hit and miss. Staff and regulars are great, though. Good restaurants within walking distance. Hotel lounge constantly occupied by drifters, and people I suspect did not have a room in the hotel. Highly recommended, would stay again.

So, a show suddenly gets a large following by an unintended audience, and suddenly becomes a "subculture"? At this stage, a following of this kind really does not comprises a "subculture". The closest term to describe it could be a "fandom" a la Star Trek/Star Wars/Dr Who/etc, albeit one that is quite nascent in its lifespan. Now, some of those do count as subcultures (Trekkies, and the like), but those are usually due to a very devoted following that has been established for a relatively long period of time. Furthermore, many of the followers tend to continue to follow the series long after it has fallen out of mainstream popularity/exposure. And of course, the term "subculture" usually carries with it some sort of association with heavy influence on the members' lifestyles; ie the clothing/language/behavior of many members is influenced to a certain degree by the associated driving force. According to Webster... "an ethnic, regional, economic, or social group exhibiting characteristic patterns of behavior sufficient to distinguish it from others within an embracing culture or society" If anything, it just happens to be a decent sized group of people replicating, intermixing, and regurgitating memes, much like many other pop-culture based followings. Those poor astronauts; they will most likely die of lead poisoning, or some sort of crazy, inhumane experiment gone wrong. So if an American Space Man is an Astronaut, and a Soviet one a Cosmonaut, what do you call a Chinese one?

Looks pretty cool, although it seems to breech the borders of "Uncanny Valley", in terms of the appearance of the city and buildings. It isn't quite photorealistic, but it isn't quite cartoony (much like our beloved SC4). This is definitely a good step forward though, and it is unfortunate that I won't be able to play this game any time soon.

Never released? Haha, too many to list/show. All due to various reasons, such as a lack of modding help, errors that needed fixing, lack of time, etc. Just a quick look at a couple of things. Not everything here is mine, but it should be obvious which ones are. All of these were made several years ago (2005-2008), before I entered the Architecture program (which is so intensive that I no longer even have time to play the game, let alone BAT):

I always wanted a pet moose. Kinda like a guard dog, but much much more effective. Also, for weed control.

A good architect should design buildings with green roofs. Bad architects and developers also try to greenwash their projects, so a green roof does not necessarily a good architect make. One must approach a project from a holistic perspective in order for it to be truly lower impact/sustainable, attractive, functional, AND marketable. Excuse me while I cry over the plight of my poor hybrid tea roses. At least it is raining now.

If you love gardening, never get into architecture. Just trust me when I say that. Oh, and stay away from Texas. Architecture School+Drought=dead garden that used to be awesome.

(Take the following post with a grain of salt, and be warned about my sarcasm) I happen to be a fan of animation (Ya know, all the good stuff; the classics, and I practically absorbed the 90's stuff via an IV), and I have this animation student friend of mine who suggested I watch the show before making any judgments (as a result of a discussion about the current state of animation; he happens to like the show, to an extent). Fair enough, since it isn't fair to label something according to initial perception, despite the fact that this show's primary INTENDED (or so we think) demographic is prepubescent girls. Of course, I already had qualms about the show, knowing about how rabid and obsessive many of the internet fans/bronies of the shows were. But of course, I decided to give the show a chance. However, I found that I can barely watch 30 seconds of it without asking myself wtf I am doing; there are too many bright colours/pinks, and the high pitched voices give me a headache, and seem to be in a frequency that I am unable to comprehend(Perhaps certain people are deaf to high frequencies). I practically have to hit myself on the head with a large cartoon mallet to condition myself to watch more than 30 seconds straight(Although I don't think seeing that many twinkling stars and bluebirds around my head is a product of self inflicted pain). Furthermore, I practically ran out of the room screaming upon hearing the intro theme. But after getting over that initial phase, I also found that the pace of the show, when it comes to certain gags and jokes, is a bit too slow for me, but then again, that's just what happens when you have jet fuel before breakfast every morning(it's an architecture student thing). The jokes elicit nary a chuckle, and I found myself making fun of the characters (rather snarkily, especially at Hank Hill and his Apples/Apple Accessories) rather than laughing at the situation. Then again, maybe I'm just too much of a jaded lad to appreciate this kind of humor. The high pitched voices continue to be irritating, but the actual animation and style (despite how simple it is) looks pretty cool, especially with the way the expressions and the like are. Personally, I don't care much for the bright colours and somewhat "flat" appearance of most objects and even characters (I'd prefer more depth when it comes to shading and the like, but I was raised differently), but for Flash, they're pretty well designed. The musical bits are enough to cause me to run out of the building like it is simultaneously on fire, and infested with yellojackets; the voice actors seem pretty tone deaf, and the songs sound like some sort of overly sweet, diabetic ketoacidosis inducing salvo of pure glucose from hell. So after fast forwarding through that, the show was just mostly underwhelming, and didn't really ring with much deeper significance or cultural references than most of the animated shows I'm used to. Of course, some say that I should give it more chances, but I'm not sure if I want to do that. But whatever, here's a Seinfeld clip where he offends an old lady who had a pony once. I really should get back to my studio work now. Damned diminutive ungulates.

Why, as a matter of fact, yes. I dream about it now and then. Hell, I've had cinematic dreams take place in cities of mine.

No wonder I didn't see anything! I was reading this entire thread from the beginning, and I was scratching my head for a while because I didn't see anything! Well, carry on then, gentlemen!

Too many! And what they contain is nobody's business! Ok, I concede slightly. I always have a bunch of tabs open to various sites I frequent, such as ArchDaily, Skyscrapercity, Facebook, various news sources, this site, etc. But yeah, the rest are none of your concern...
