Whenever I see massive areas of historically significant urban space destroyed for the sake of soulless office and residential blocks, I feel that we are destroying a part of who we are, as the human race/mankind. Sure, you can rebuild new out of bombed out places, or in the sake of progress, but one should always respect the urbanity, and build within the context of it all. This is nearly akin to desecration of things sacred, such as ancient graves, and places of worship. All for the sake of $$$, of course.

Definitely San Francisco. It is much cleaner, less autocentric, has a higher density, more attractive (and seemingly lusher) landscape/terrain, more authentic and historically significant architecture, more fine arts related culture, and other cultural institutions and such. Furthermore, the skyline of SF may have more subtle architecture, but that prevents it from being too overly dated, like LA's overly Early 90's/late 80's PoMo and international skyscraper style (just a box) mishmash.

Vancouver's architectural style
DuskTrooper replied to gndrew's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
For some reason, I'd have to classify it as "Modern Northwest Pacific Urban". If you take a look at any of the new developments in Vancouver, Portland, and Seattle, you will find them quite similar. It probably leans closer to Euro than Houston, but they lack a certain "overly government subsidized" aura about them that would pinpoint it as Euro(although, many of them are indeed still government subsidized). -
This also reminds me of that Futurama episode, where the planet Uranus was renamed to Urectum.

Rumor has it that the Chinese characters for SCS translate to "Horrid & Vile Garbage"

What would you need to buy this game?

Now, the question comes to mind; what is worth less? Those quintillions of useless AOL discs sent out via mail, or an SCS disc? -

Its Christmas Time - What are you getting
DuskTrooper replied to Cleaner475's topic in General Off-Topic
Cash, preferably in the form of Pounds or Euros. Even better if it is in the form of rapidly-appreciating precious metals. Other than that....just the usual architecture books, etc. and some other things (SHUT UP, DA! ) -
Blast...don't let Rick Perry hear about this.... (if anyone is familiar with his recent vaccine related shenanigans)

Gotta do some term papers, and a massive research paper over this weekend and next...arrgh... Of course, finals are coming up soon, so I have a ton of studying to do for that. Other than that, we'll get the CHRISTMAS decorations put up inside and out, start cooking for this Thursday, maybe chill around a bit, and then stuff myself with various good foods. Perhaps I will even put in some winter/cool season annuals in the garden, since my tropicals were beaten up a bit by the recent cold front...wahhh. Going shopping on Friday just isn't an option; too many people, and I'd rather do my Xmas shopping online. Besides, most of the "goods" out there are crap this time around. Ahh, the CHRISTMAS season....long live consumerism, gluttony, and political correctness....NOT

The only injustice I see in this case is the fact that the homeowner was not able to dispatch the surviving perp....

Bugs? You mean like a Dung Beetle?

This just in! Westboro Baptist just gave SCS a 10/10! Ok, now, that REALLY soils their credibility.

Perhaps we should invest in some new pins...

The library is looking sweet; the textures, and everything else! I don't think anyone has done any nice small libraries yet; I'll be waiting for this one! Any plans on placing foliage on the slopes? Keep it up, mon!

Mythbusters Simtropolis Edition, anyone? Ok, you guys conduct the experiment....I'll get lunch. -
It hit 82 F today, and most of my tropical plants are still blooming. A "Cold" front is coming tomorrow, which will make the high drop to a chilly 68F. And frankly, I'll take a mild winter and hot summers over mild summers, and cold winters. I can't stand seeing things dead and grey for long periods; I like stuff green.
