  1. Jobs in plopables?

Hey All, It has been probably a year since i last played SC4 and visited this site. I remember that one of the issue previously that plobable building did not seem to systain jobs even when plopped on a zones area. Is this still the case or has this been solved? It was nice to plop all these good looking buildings...but they werent really functional.
  2. Power Transformer

Awesome, been missing this for a long time. Perhaps you can make a version without the bilboard and with large transformer 'buckets'. Check this for some pics http://science.howstuffworks.com/power5.htm ...great work
  3. NAM - Ped Footbridge

First of many thanks for all those who work on the NAM, it has made the game so much more intrestting for me....thank you all very much. I have the following questions: Ped Footbridge start/end: the current version show a red green and blue box stacked on top of each other, i have been told there was no time to texture them before the last NAM release...is this in the works for the next release? Highway straight ramps: I love the straight ramps you guys made for the elevated highway, they are much more realistic than the normal ones. Is there any plan to made straight ramps for the ground highway??
  4. NAM - Ped Footbridge

What about the ground highway straight onramps?? Any word on that??
  5. Large Modern Terminal Project

Date: 4/26/2005 7:12:15 PM Author: MTLT_17 Hey man, Great! Umm is there anyway of rotating it so that we could make this terminal on a 45 degree angle in-game? So that we can make the runways also run at 45 degress beside it without it looking to out of place? -MTLT quote> Does Joergs pack allow you to make diagonal runways??
  6. Large Modern Terminal Project

Great work, but i would like to make the following constructive comment: By convention, airplanes are always boarded on the left front side. You boarding tunnel currently splits in two suggesting you could service 2 planes which is not so realistic. But don't take me wrong, the rest of the building looks freaking unbelieveble. Most of the time there is a fixed portion of the boarding bridge that is perpendicular to the building and then a movable portion that is a bit narrower as well. Long linear terminal are becomining more and more popular for construction these days, a descent side linear terminal can have 20 or so gates for large planes on one side ( or both depending on whether the terminal is accesible to airplanes on both sides. Just thought i;d give you some info....keep up the good work....can;t wait to see how it turns out..
  7. Ground Lightrail MOD - support

Guess..just wanted to say great work...am not sure what problems other had...but everything installed fine on the first try for me. I love the GLR and can't wait for more puzzle pieces, stations and train skin... GREAT WORK..KEEP IT UP...
  8. Trapezium Style Terminal Building

Don't let anybody discourage you.... We definetly needs some new batted terminals......I am currently in love the the Osaka Kansai terminal so i am set...but keep up the good work..
  9. Hey all, For my new region MavTavia I am starting out with the airport. The airport will most likely be bigger then I have ever seen on Simtrop when its done. Some people expressed interest in a 'making off', so here it goes. First stage of construction has begun. Construction of the runway and taxiways has started. Work will start soon on the acces road and the terminal. Check back for a progress report soon...

Date: 5/5/2005 7:48:34 PM Author: Cjah Looks O.K. Do you have any bridges to go to the airport... quote> There are underwater tunnels that connect the airport island to the adjecent island and to the mainland. Bridges would be tricked as they would pose a risk to the air traffic...

Date: 5/4/2005 11:15:10 PM Author: timotheus4 Most interesting. There seems to be an over-abundance of blue in your pictures commonly not found in the game. Is it that you do not have Rush Hour?quote> Are you refering to the background or the blue within the lots?? I have some missing textures around the ponds that i know of. The blue backgroudn has always been there...and i have rush hour....

Date: 5/4/2005 11:00:39 PM Author: MayorTim Ahh you didn't know about Joergs pack?!?! I would have pointed it out, but I thought eveyone on the planet knew about it by now! It is MUCH better than the Philly pack, and the terminals are larger, better built, and more realistic. Have fun! EDOT: OMFG! No frikken way! There was an update to Joergs airport lots and I didn't even know! It was from friggen 2004!!! Whats more, I DID comment on the 3rd page of that thread. But I completely missed the link to the improved airports on the first page! Arrg!!!!!quote> I knew about Joergs pack, but this new pack that allows angles taxiwats, etc looks frikkin awesome.....I wish i had know before i started this project....

Date: 5/4/2005 1:32:09 AM Author: wraith90 I reconize those parking lots.  They are mine and i know why the land is black under them in the picture above.  I made them for my airport and the base texture I used is from the airport pack mentioned in the post above me.  This airport is looking really good. Edit:  I just noticed also that the GLR station is not connected in the first picture of your last update, it overhangs the lot on either side, just FYI. quote> Thanks you so much....i should have know....that darn station wouldn't work for the life of me...do i drag elevated rail through or just place a tile???

Date: 5/4/2005 12:53:25 AM Author: dsands Hey, Cool airport!! You should get Aiport Pack Ver 2.1 !! If your into making airport's, you'll want that!!quote> OMFG...now you tell me...you bastard...that pack you showed is awesome...now i am gonna to start all over again....thanks... lol...seriously..many thanks for pointing me to the new pack...i haven't tried it yet..but it looks awesome...although Joergs pack is awesome it had its limitations... Many thanks

Here's another update: This central area shot taken right before construction of the second terminal. Plans for addition of small parks and foutans are in the works, so certain space have been left open. Overview of the entire airport, second runway and terminal have been completed and feul farm have been build. Close-up of the maintenance hanger area and fuel farm, the fuel farm provides local storage of fuel for several days of operation. It is fed from a nearby refinery by (partially) underground pipeline. This shot was taken before construction of the second runway hence the 'dead-end' taxiway. Cargo area still in planning stages as well as a area for hotels in the middle of the airport.

Date: 5/2/2005 5:01:45 PM Author: MayorTim The only thing I don't like about your airport (and it isn't just you) is that you used the wider runways. They have to be the most unrealistic and out of proportion transportation lot anyone has ever put into the game. A standard runway in the real world when put in SC4 is about 4/5 of a large city tile long and only 3 tiles wide. The wider runways don't fit into the game at all, and are one of the best ways to make your airport look unrealistic.quote> Yes, you are partially correct, the lenght is not really representative of a real runway, as for a large airport they are typically between 3000 and 4000 meters (4000 being a large city wide). The large runway section is however 5 tiles wide, making it 80m wide. A typical large airport runway in 45 meters wide, (approx 3 tiles), but this does not include the runway shoulder (also paved) off approx 7,5 to 11.5 meters each side. In total i thought the 3 tile wide runway was undersized, but i agree the 5 tile runway is a bit oversized. Regarding the lenght once again you are totally right, although in proportion to the terminal it seems to work out ok. Since i cannot control the size of the terminal i think the lenght i choose is appropriate, but i denfinely appreicate your input.

Date: 5/2/2005 12:48:23 AM Author: 6SpeedTA95 Cool, this could be sweet, I'm going to do that in my latest CJ as soon as my population warrants an international airport of significant size.quote> haha..my region is still a virgin...but i could not resist building the airport first..i know it's not logical..but i couldn't help it.
  18. Mavtavia - Mother of all airports under construction

Date: 5/1/2005 9:29:03 PM Author: rix10 wow. neat! is it only going to be on the island or on the mainland too?quote> What is shown at the bottom of the first pick of this thread is actually not the mainland, but an adjecent large island. The maindland is to the right of the airport island. The second runway will require extensive earthwork and this may result in the island being sort of connected, perhaps the runway may even 'bridge' part of the water. I am not sure yet how to work this out.
  19. Mavtavia - Mother of all airports under construction

Date: 5/1/2005 9:24:28 PM Author: Timbuk2 hey this looks interesting... good job but... will you add another runway? most big airports (LAX for example) have a good 3-4 runways This is true, LAX is an exception though. I believe LAX has 4 runways that are parrallel. They are however close together which prevents them from being used 'independent' (i.e. Take-Off and Landings have to be coordinated between runways). Properly spaced runways are allowed to be operated completely independent, significantly raising capacity. Other large airport may have more than 2 runways, but typically they are in different directions and most of the time crossing. You will seldomly find an airport that has more than 2 'Active' runways. I am using Hong Kong international as a loose model for this airport. Hong Airport Airport (the new one) has only 2 runways that are parallel (winds are very constant and do not change direction often there) and planned for 120 someting gates and approx 75 million passengers. So i am assuming constant wind directions and such similar to Hong Kong, but i may add a 'crosswind runway' later. A 'crosswind' runway sole purpose is to allow operation when the main runways cannot be used due to excessive crosswind. The good thing is that if the crosswind is that high the same wind will be parrallel to the 'crosswind' runway. This allows the 'crosswind' runway to be designed at much shorter lenght since the strong headwind 'helps' the planes take-off and land.
  20. Mavtavia - Mother of all airports under construction

Here's another updatte with 800x600 pics this time. Thank you kindly Terminal Construction has been completed, the central terminal area is starting to take shape. In the layout the the area the future expansion is taken into consideration. Eventually a second terminal will be built at the south side of the lightrail station. Parking, Control tower and lightrail station have been constructed. The airport island will be connected to an adjectcent island and to the mailand by tunnels. The tunnel shown are for the highway, the lightrail transitions into subway. Long term parking lot is connected to the central terminal area by lightrail (via subway connections). The lightrail system will also connect the airport to the mainland. Maintenance hanger have been added, next up are the cargo area and a fuel famr. There will be a refinery on the mainland nearby the airport and there will be an underwater pipe connection to the airport to transport the fuel, at the airport a large array of tanks will hold fuel as well. Eventually this airport will have another main terminal and a second large runway, as the island is too small the second runway will have to partially be on manmade land. Besides a fuel, farm, cargo area and a fire/rescue facility, what else does this airport need??? Comments are welcome....
  21. NAM General Discussion Thread

Another quick questions: I like to make sunken highways through my cities and then have road (usually oneway) passing over (not intersecting) these sunken highways. I have been ussing the puzzle pieces for incline and decline and placing them on sloped land to make them appear flat, this works functionally, but graphically it ends up looking a bit rough. I noticed the pedestrian overpass on sloped land puzzle pieces and was wondering is similar pieces are available (i could not find them in the latest NAM) or could be developed. Anybody else big into sunken highways?? I would like to exchange though regarding intersection/onramps etc...
  22. NAM General Discussion Thread

Hey all, Just downloaded the latest version of the NAM..and so far it looks awesome... My wife is gonna kill you guys since i now spend all my time prettying up my cities with puzzle pieces... One questions though: The Pedestrian mall overpass end pieces appear in my game as red, blue and green boxes stacked on top of each other? Is this correct or am i missing some dependencies..?? Anyway...thank you for all your hard work... Note sure where to give props for all the lightrail modding, but those guys are freaking geniusses (did i spell that right?? obvisously i am not a geniussessesesesses).
  23. Nexis Prison Wall Set

Love the wall...hope you will get around to the tower and entrance lots..
  24. New (also) Diagonal Walls

Man, these walls look awesome...i actually didn't even know you could tunnel under water in SC4, gonna have to do a bit of research now.... Great job on the walls...i have downloaded them and plan to use them in one of my cities soon..
  25. GCP Public Parking Garage
