State of SimCity: Offline Being Discussed; Bigger Maps Not Coming
dscampbell commented on SilentMage's article in News
Nice to see this post. Sad to hear abut the city size, but actually this only means that it won't be possible just yet, not never. Computingpower will improve, so in he future bigger cities might be available. As for ofline mode, good to hear it is beïng considered. There is one thing that worries me though, and that is that I have doubts about the honesty in this post, mainly because of this: " Some player requests, such as a tool to raise and lower roads, were straightforward challenges." This is clearly untro since Dirk allready confirmed this tool to be a part of the developers version when they visited the maxis studio. So if they are dishonest about this, then what value shold I hold the rest of the informatie to. -
I'd say fool me once, shame on you, Fool me twice, shame on me, but I didn't fall for this scam the first time so they can do whatever they like for all I care.

"• Re-Enabled Feature: Region filters are now enabled on all SimCity servers. Players will be able to search for open games by Map Name, Sandbox Mode, and Abandoned Cities." Well, that should leave plenty of free spaces!

I couldn't be less interested in this even if I tried really hard....

Not as long as enough suckers continue to "play". And here is the problem. I just can't get my head around why people would actually be willing to pay monney for such a bad product. It's like going to a carrdealership and saying: "Hey, give me that 15 year old Ford over there with the rust and broken gearbox. I'll pay you full price for it!" Are people really this stupid?

Screw the game, SimCity has become a cynically brilliant advertising platform

Oh, and by €60 to buy, I obviously mean RENT! -

A game costing over €60 to buy should not have DLC, PERIOD!!! There is NO excuse for this. Look at Cities in Motion 2. The games costs €20. For that you get a more complete and better programmed game. CiM1 had DLC and I suspect the new one will have it too, but at least you don't feel robbed after just having payed up €60 for a useless piece of crap this new Sim City is! And hey! After only spending €20 for a game and seeing some cool DLC content, you actually might feel like buying some of that stuff as a gamer, because.... And here it is EA/Maxis: my lesson in consumerbinding! ....... you might feel like you got a great deal recieving a featurepacked COMPLETED game for only €20, so you actually WANT to pay some extra because you feel that the developers deserve the extra monney and your appreciation! -
EA Swallows a $300M Pill, Shuts Down Playfish, and Leaves Sim Facebook
dscampbell commented on Hellken's article in News
And still I bet noone in that boardroom is waking up and seeing that online games really aren't the things the gamer wants.... -
I'm sold!! W/o a doubt one of the best sim-games I've seen lately. This feels like a great improvement on Transport Tycoon DL. Finally a game to be exited about again. Now he're hope that something like this will be outfitted with an excelent city simulator and I'll have found my ultimate game!

See EAxis, you wouldn't have to do this if you would just make an offline version of the game. Then you could just stop supporting it and abbandon the community (like you did in the past) without that community beïng deprived of the possibillity to actually play the broken game they payed for and attemt to improve it.

Update 90 | Autumn in Ube
dscampbell commented on Forthwall's City Journal Entry in Shushtrepistaz Outlet
Looks very nice! Lots of detail! One thing that just trikes me as a bit odd, though is the use of fences on sidewalks. Where I'm from you'll see that at some bussy crossings or bridges, but surely not in front of meters of houses by the street in a rural area. I wonder, is this something you do see a lot where you are from? Or is it just in the type of street and not so easy to control? -
Do you still read these boards, Maxis? See what you get if you actually make a game while listening to the fanbase? You get praise! You didn't see that one comming, did ya?!?!

A very fair review which I am sure Maxis will not bother to do anything with... -

Cities in Motion 2 Shows Nifty Transportation Network Options
dscampbell commented on Freddyeddy's article in News
Won't pre order, but it does look promissing. It also holds prommisse for the future of Sim City. If Paradox can do this much improvement in 4 some years, then I am sure Maxis can improve on Sim city as well. There are some really nice building blocks in the new sim city, but they just need to be put together in a proper way. -
SimCity Update from Senior Producer Kip Katsarelis
dscampbell commented on Freddyeddy's article in News
Indeed, information should be judged at its own merrit. So Doing the math on the information given in this post a clear immage should appear tho the people at Maxis, that whatever they were thinking in the past, they thought wrong. They should really start to give in to the customerd and make this a game that people want. Kip's own userdata proves this point. If theydon't starte to give in soon, I am afraid that MAxis will sufer the same fate as Monte Christo. That would be a real shame, scince I still believe that if there will ever be a true Sim City 5, it will come from Maxis. -

I apreciate what you are trying to do Dirk, but I - and I know many others - feel that maxis is not comunicating. They are telling PR lies and are not listening to their customers. What good is comuicating if all you are doing is sending your message into the world with out actually (and more importantly) honestly responding to what people are saying. The statistic that there are only 750.000 active cities is actually a darn important wakeup call that should make them realise that people are fedd up with their lies. -

"We've been heads down addressing the key issues we’re seeing reported from our community. This includes city rollbacks, lost progress," This is exactly the reason I object so much against the online saving of cities. Yes, there is a risk I cannot play cities in ten years time, but to build a city, carefully designing neighbourhoods and spend hours on that only to find out all work was for nothing!! This is so insulting to players, I simply don't understand how people at maxis can still look at themselves with dignity. Bunch of frauds. NCGAIO, on 28 Mar 2013 - 21:08, said: Frankly .... where is the cutoff? How many more thousands of sales to admit that there are serious design flaws? Disclose such data is an insult to the collective intelligence. Hours played consider the total time logged and not active or is not representative of the playing time.( Without considering the time to understand and work around the bugs ) Millions of miles of roads built because the players could not make them work properly and rebuild them for numerous times. Humm! .. Three quarters of a million or 750,000 right? If the game has sold over 1.1 million copies that means at least 350,000 (33%) are not playing or quit, is it true? (That if each were playing with only one city.) It's time for someone throw in the towel, man... You bring up some very interesting points. They bring this as a positive statistic, yet it's clearly a sign that people are quickly starting to lose interest in this terrible piece of crap. -
A Free PC Download From Origin for SimCity Launch Customers
dscampbell commented on Wustmann's article in News
"We’re getting great feedback from our fans and know that many of you are having fun and exploring this whole new expression of SimCity." Really? they must be on some sort of completely different internet, because the one I'm on I cannot find this so called great feedback, unless they really are being litteral here: "we got ONE great feadback bladiebla" -
SimCity Modder Tells Us Offline Regional Play Easily Done
dscampbell commented on Freddyeddy's article in News
code security is a positive word for a negative aspect of coding: untransparrant programming. The fact that it takes only two lines of code says noting about the code quailty of the coding (perhaps maybe that those 2 lines are easilly found and eddited, which I would call a good feature, especcially when it comems to modding. It does say a lot however of the way 'online' is infused into the 'DNA' of this game (which was so stated by miss Bradshaw). It is not infused into the DNA at all! It is just something they stuck onto the code. -
SimCity Modder Tells Us Offline Regional Play Easily Done
dscampbell commented on Freddyeddy's article in News
Wow, isn't this exactly how regionplay in SC4 worked? So it took them 10 years to come up with how they could port ofline regionplay of sC4 to this new game as an ill concieved online gameplay feature noone was waiting for in the first place...... The more I read about this so called sim city, the more I get the feeling EA is not the only party to blame in this debacle -
