  1. potato chips in the fridge? lol... i also know someone who eats donuts with a fork and knife, but he is 91 years old a weird thing about me is that i have to sleep in complete darkness but there has to be some kind of white noise, like a fan. but not the tv.. just a fan. i guess its not that weird, but its all i can think of right now
  2. Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox

It takes more than a few minor performance tweaks to get me to switch from Firefox. Hell, Opera is faster than Chrome, but that's not my main selling point. Firefox is more than just a browser for me, it's also an important developing tool as a web designer. I find it hilarious that the majority of Chrome users boast about its speed - most notably on Java applets, a platform notorious for being slow and clunky because, quite frankly, it's terrible. A website that has to resort to using Java is like purposely applying bad design. Even if Chrome had all the Firefox tools I use on a daily basis, Google long since lost my trust years ago. Their constant push towards cloud computing, data mining, controlling the world's information, knowledge and medical records makes me want to have absolutely nothing to do with them. You can't follow the motto "don't be evil" while trying to achieve such selfish means. I hope that someday people look past the convenience of Google and appearance of being tech savvy by using it, and let them know what they're doing is wrong. What good has come from a few men controlling everything?
  3. System Requirements

You don't need to have a 64-bit version of 32-bit software. 64-bit environments can emulate 32-bit just fine. It's 16-bit applications you have to worry about, and I'm sure CXL doesn't rely on any 16-bit architecture. As far as 64-bit games, we probably won't be seeing those for at least another 5 to 10 years. But it's not that big of a deal - like I said, 32-bit software runs fine on a 64-bit machine. I have Windows XP 64-bit and I was able to run the demo with zero problems.

  5. 250k population causes game to crash!

If you think it's a plugin, try the tips in the "identify faulty plugin" pinned thread: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=24&threadid=90885&enterthread=y
  6. when dirty industry kicks the bucket

doesn't sound like too bad of a deal. i'll give it a try
  7. Newbie - Need Tips ffor raising Demand

the best way to stop buildings from repeating is to get more buildings from STEX and hope they grow! if a plugin building is growing too much, delete some of the lots. also make sure you have the architecture style rotation on - i think it's somewhere in mayor mode i'm not familiar with census repository, but i look forward to hearing from an expert
  8. Negative demand in all 3 areas

let's see some pictures of your city! that might help us answer your questions better
  9. modeling in maya?

hey everyone. i'm not gonna lie, i am totally brand new to this. i don't even know what BAT stands for. but i would eventually like to start making buildings to put into SC4 and share with the STEx. i tried to search the forums for topics about this but it said the keyword was too short so i couldn't. i know that gmax is the go-to tool for people that make lots, but i have had a lot of experience in the past with Maya and i'm comfortable with it. long story short: 1. can I model buildings in Maya and then export them to be used in SC4? 2. where in this forum should I look for detailed instructions on this? thanks everyone. -autumnsolace
  10. modeling in maya?

    ok, gotchya

  12. Newbie - Need Tips ffor raising Demand

it would help to know what your city looks like - what kind of citizens live in your city? where do they work?
  13. What's the size of your plugins folder?

    never done this before...738MB!
  14. SC4BOY had some good suggestions about building and controlling population, but he left something out that i think is really important. R$$$ can really flood an entire city if you're not careful about zone sizes. If you leave a lot of 3x3 or bigger residential zones with amenities and high land value, you run the risk of having a lot of expensive mansions taking up a lot of space, squandering space for denser population zones and people who are willing to fuel the low to middle-class economy. try to avoid zones bigger than 2x3 unless you're shooting for apartments.
  15. when dirty industry kicks the bucket

you mean the taxes? i've done that before to try and force it, but it didn't go over so well. in this city, it naturally happened
  16. Show us your Ghettos

i notice a lot of you have little parking lots in between some of the bigger tenements. are these plopped - and more importantly, do they function, or if not, how do you make them grow so neatly together?
  17. Screenshots (Pre-Release)

the screenshots - always tempting. but i am not going to be a guinea pig to a buggy game on launch. here's to hoping MC keeps on their promise to continue with honest development
  18. Check Out This Overpass Connection

i would love to drive on that thing!
  19. Modding and Mass Transit

I find it bizarre in this day and age when a developer thinks it's better to deny all the possibilities of allowing modification and user-made content to flourish. it gives the player their money's worth and makes for real replay value. and the fact it has an online element does not change anything. it could still be implemented, and probably in a more organized fashion.

  21. The Burning Question Thread

will they ever make updates to the avatar system? i found it to be very inhibiting. if they're gonna let you make your own character, you should be able to make it look however you want it to !
  22. modeling in maya?

sounds great. is the FSH something that comes built-in with max or is it a custom plugin?
  23. modeling in maya?

You can, and I can admit that it has a wider array of modeling tools than Maya does. I just hate its interface and the way it streamlines. I will definitely see if I can talk to bixel. Or if any of you have dabbled in Maya+SC4, I'd love to hear about the experience. Is it just a matter of exporting an SC4Model file?
  24. modeling in maya?

I was afraid of that - both the compatibiltiy of Maya and the limitations of gmax. However a lot of my favorite buildings i've seen were modeled in 3dsmax. I suppose the best way to find out is to check that import list like you said, and work in gmax first, so I know what it can and can't do. Do people texture in 3dsmax as well, or is that all left to gmax?
