  1. Discussion about City Tile Size

There will be differant types of regions and presumable differant tile sizes. Maxis have mentioned already that there are regions you can join that " we like to call friday night sessions" which imo is a region with small(er) tile sizes that you can complete much quicker than the largest tile sized region, so the screenshot above might just be that. The fact it does say Town name suggests that this is the case.
  2. There's lots to write about! I'll post on several topics this weekend and over the next few days. Quote from simtropolis twitter Im new here and just wondering if the review is on this forum or somewhere else on the site. Btw im having trouble loading some pages all weekend
  3. Yep. very happy with your honest review. No brown envelope for you i suspect . Just a few questions. Roads are 3dmaps. Is it possible to elevate tram lines either on their own or as part of an elevated Avenue ? Same question for heavy rail. You asked about water in the interview. Is there going to be rivers ? Can disasters be turned off? You have a picture of a bucket excavator in your photos. Is that in the game somehow? who paid for dinner ? tks
  4. Tks Zel. Is dirk sick too ? . Its been over a week since ye visited maxis. Is it because ye had to sign a NDA and cant tell us about anything that ye were shown that maxis hasnt shown yet, such as overpasses etc.
  5. SimCity: Gameplay

You can play on as many tiles as you want, but they wont be beside eachother. they may close as in across a river, but no side by side tiles
  6. Uh...it's EA. The only kind of hype they know is SUPER-HYPE! Remember all the hype around Societies? We all thought it was going to be the next SimCity... ...and then it came out! for some nostalgic disappointment from the SCS Trailer I never played SCS when i heard about the lack of zoning. That trailer looks good. How can they spin a trailer to make it look good and then ignore what they know is good in the actual game. Im thinking they are aiming at a young audience with S2013 and trying to get the sims player to buy. From listening to the Q&A ( puke) and reading the simplistic facebook comments, it looks like they might succeed. Has the word excited ever been used as much by Devs?
  7. for sure indeed !. Has maxis or EA hired you by any chance?
  8. I was also wondering about that and will sims just cross the road to get to the stop. It seems they have to cross the road to get to tram stops, but i havnt seen any pedestrian crossings that are not on a junction yet. Also they said that the bus goes to the destination the sims on the bus want to go to. what if everone on the bus wants to go somewhere differant? . Lets say you have one bus stop in a residential area, another at the commercial and a third at your industrial zone. Bus picks up sims, 50% want to go shopping, 50% want to to work in the industrial. The bus goes first to the shops, drops off the shoppers and picks up more sims that want to go home. What does Bus do ??
  9. Highways you can build in your city have been confirmed, although not much has been revealed about them. Really?. link ? whats the point of having a highway that can have only 1 connection to the region. cul de sac highway. even so you would need on/off ramps and proper junctions which would not make sense given the 2k X 2k maps
  10. The highways will be in the region. not in your city. no room for a start. there will be elevated roads as the roads are 3d paths which allow this and tunnels btw. guill said they just arnt ready to show them yet.
  11. Excellent, happy to hear! Glad you like some of my SC4 junctions posted on Twitter . Pictures or it didn't happen, that's what it all comes down to. I'm not sure if Simtropolis is talking up the game right now or Dirk and Zel are just really excited.... because I would be too! They're not quite ready to be shown yet, we still have a lot of work to do! just one screenshot of an overpass pls. great news btw
  12. SimCity: Gameplay

I think its supposed to be Live gameplay tuesday. I wouldnt worry about the rail connection issue as this is a minor detail that can be easily fixed. Im not too worried about the size of the cities in the gameplay trailer as maxis have said there will be regions you can enter for a fast game if you desire one. I dont like the fact that some plots will have better transport connection options to the region than others. There are 2 roads types that are "exciting" that we dont know about, but no sign of bridges , overpasses or oneway roads which will suck. I dont like that the road type decides what the density of the buildings will be. In other words you will have to have avenues everywhere if you want a large (highrise) city. I would love to put my sewer pipe into a river ( if there are rivers) and leave it flow downstream to another guys city. i would hate to be on the receiving end though.
  13. SimCity: Gameplay

the plot sizes look really small, but maybe this is a friday night region designed for "quick games" as was mentioned in some interview before. boats and planes are also in the menus so ports and small city airports are an option. I would imagine the rail lines will curve even in a 90deg junction just like the tram lines do. No sign of any bridge or oeverpass option in any menu , but im hoping the roads with the arrows are oneway. there are some plots not near rail or water, wtf would want to build there?
  14. Yep. hence the need for overpasses, oneway roads and a yield option. I have an bad feeling though that every road is on the ground and maxisgull said that a road has to have two way traffic + sidewalks for the engine to work (garbage and emergency vehicles). we shoud know more on the 9th
  15. Traffic

As far as i know the surface car parks fill first and anything extra goes underground.
  16. Traffic lights on the highway i reakon . Also in the distance, you can see the airport. What do ye think the structure to the right is with the 3 large towers? Its not just another city and must be a great works of some kind
  17. I just hope it dosnt turn out like the last Q&A and they just pick the less tricky questions to answer
  18. thanks for your reaction maxisguillaume, but this real life video doesn t answer the speed (to scale) question i posted, even more, this real life video shows everything on fast forward (like in that 80s movie 'Koyaanisqatsi') most of the gameplay vids show the game speeded up to show you skyscrapers going up etc. The original E3 shows both fast and normal speeds.
  19. Train stations have parking, so yeah, people will drive there before taking the train. Tram stops however are placed in the middle of avenues, so I'm not sure where their parking lot would be... Perhaps on the side of the road and the sims then cross the road to get to the stop on foot or right beside the stop if you build the tram line without the road. btw how do the sims get to the tram stop ? just cross the busy avenue?
  20. Mmmh good suggestion, I'll see what I can do. You have included park and ride ( great btw ) , but are you seriously saying that you never thought of park and ride trams or trains until now ??? One way roads ? yes / no
  21. Question: what would happen, in theory, if each road connection was either an entrance or an exit, not both? The game would go crazy trying to figure stuff out, right? Not really. i have watched loads of gameplay videos looking for one way roads without any luck. An avenue has basicly two one way roads side by side and traffic will go to the correct side when turning onto it. It should be possible to include one way roads by just using one side of an avenue. ill block one side if i have to.
  22. The blog that was supposed to be released friday was up on the insider site for a bit before it was pulled. noting noteworthy really except emergency vehicles will change the traffic lights to green. sims follow rules to get to their destination
  23. Am I right in assuming that at the moment, all transport mediums are stuck to the ground? this is probably the most important question of all and i have a horrible feeling that transport is stuck to the ground which will make it practically imposible to make direct routes with overpasses etc. More details coming friday so hopefully im wrong. questions i would like covered friday are . 1. ^^^ 2. oneway roads ? 3. subway? 4. roundabouts? 5. junctions without traffic lights. ie yield right of way ?
  24. If you go to http://www.simcity.c...mCity-Follow-up a comment from Donohoe states "We'll be talking a lot about transportation next week, in fact!" At last! Preview. I’m joe blog , the Assistant Lead Designer of SimCity. I’ve been at Maxis for six years and started playing the original SimCity on a monochrome Macintosh, so I’m really excited and honored to be working on this latest update to a classic game. I would like to talk to you about transportation in the new simcity. I am really excited to announce that the new simcity will have what our fans have been asking for ... YES curvy roads are in. tune in next week for new screenshots showing curvy roads and what you can do with them.
  25. Buses.: shuttle buses will ferry people around your city. Intercity buses as the name suggests will ferry people between cities. Rail: Light rail = trams will ferry people around your city. Heavy rail will ferry people between cities. I wouldnt expect any other transport options except in a DLC. Over , underpasses are more of a concern tbh as without them, there is only so much you can do to solve traffic problems. i have yet to see a screen shot of a bridge either except the intercity bridges which are region controled. i can understand the drip fed info as there is still 5+ months to release. Beta should reveal everything i guess
