  1. The foundation is the box that appears under a building or prop when it is built on a slant. Basically, it's a retaining wall. So the building isn't hanging out/floating in the air. It should mention it in the Plugin Manager or Lot Editor help manual, what it is at least.
  2. Always the same buildings!

Well, there always mods to block Maxis buildings... 'cause if I'm understanding you right, that's what you want. If you still want some Maxis buildings but more variety, you would have to modify each building file. And trust me: That's not fun. There are hundreds of files. If I find a mod, I'll gladly point you to it.
  3. nybt-forum-threads NYBT BAT Thread

Dang, it's been a long time. I can explain! Really! As the result of my nitemaps issue i had to reinstall the BAT. I uninstalled it, but to reinstall it, I needed to have Simcity installed. Too bad that 3 days earlier I had uninstalled it due to technical issues. I needed to find disc 1, which I thought was in my basement, but a 5 hour search found nothing. So I had to borrow Simcity from a friend. He got it to me and I couldn't install it. I essentially gutted all my Simcity related anything software, and it installed without problem. Then I was able to reinstall everything. This is in the time span of about three weeks. ...quite a tale, eh? So I finished up 109 Mott Street this weekend, being happy that the BAT and Simcity even worked. Anyways, I'm not asking for suggestions (not that I'll reject them). I just wanted to make it known that I'm still alive.

Wow, this pageflip is baaaaad... Edit: Pageflip fixed! Anyways, first I'll point everyone to that thread... Second, I'm no expert on texturing UI, but I know you need FSH format files if you want to do it a certain way. There may be other ways to make moving UI/automata, but I don't know them. If you want to make props, I don't think you need FSH files, you just need to select the type of file you want for textures. Though you really should get advice from someone who does this sort of thing, this should help for now.

Alright, first things first, have you checked the STEX and there isn't something like that already? It sounds like something people could already have. If not... I would suggest the BDS Stupid Texture. It can be found on the STEX. It's a simple transparent texture. Just put it in your plugins folder when making the lot, and if it's not there when you power up the game, the texture will be transparent. It's a neat little trick. Also, if you use it in the final model, be sure to thank the creator. Otherwise, I guess it's plagiarism. Also, by setting the power consumption to zero with a simple tool like the LE Prop, you can make it so it doesn't need power to work. This would be a huge attraction to potential downloaders. No hassle, just plop it and animals appear. Just imagine the use in a CJ... But I digress, if it is already on the STEX (which I have the feeling it is), I would not suggest remaking something.
  10. BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion

Okay, that sounds like a good idea. I just wanted to make sure I uninstalled right and wouldn't lose the files. I assume I can just put my files on a thumb drive and keep it near the computer until gmax has successfully reinstalled? I'll check back sometime tonight, hopefully. I don't know what else to try for the nitemaps. The only problem I've ever heard with the nitemaps has always had to do with thumbs.db. quote> Learning something new never hurt anyone. Embrace experience. Et cetera.

Some snow flurries have been seen in Alexandria, Pineville and elsewhere in Central Louisiana today, Jan. 4, and they signal frigid weather ahead. Things aren't going great for me right now as far as BATing is concerned. My nitemaps have been broken for at least a week, so I'm not sure if I can BAT without breaking anything. I also need to find my Simcity 4 Disc 1 because Simcity was being whacky and I had to uninstall. I'll get that problem done soon. The disc is in my basement I believe. I do need help with the nitemaps issue, so if you have any ideas, Sky Guy and I are pondering over at the BAT Maintenence Thread.
  12. BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion

Is there a way to reset/reinstall the BAT? I've messed around with the function file for the BAT and its nitemaps, I've tried different format types, I've tried finding thumbs.db, and prettymuch anything else I can do. I'm still open to ideas, but reinstalling seems like the only way to get nitemaps to work. The problem is, won't I lose my files or history if I reset? Any ideas?

Did you Apply changes then Save DAT? After you make changes with the LE Prop, you have to do both in that order to save the changes you've made. Clicking just Save DAT will not solve the problem.
  15. Need Help

Doesn't Disc 2 play the game and Disc 1 installs it? That's why I'm Simcity disabled right now! Grr... If you (or we) can't find our discs, at least it's really cheap on the internet.
  16. BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion

Okay, you've shed some light on the situation, but I still can't seem to solve it. This is what the folder and Control Panel look like at the moment. I've done what you said to do in your original post to Yoshiisland, but thumbs.db is not showing up, though there are hidden files showing up no problem on my desktop. I tried a number of combinations for viewing files, but still nothing. I eventually ran a system search for folders or files named "thumbs". Though I got some results, none of them were in the gmax directory. I tried deleting these four data files, but the gmax nitemaps still wouldn't show up, so I restored them [from the Recycling Bin]. It's a little frustrating, but I'm still open to ideas.
  17. BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion

I have the same problem, with nitemaps, that Yoshiisland had. Unfortunately, I tried JasonCW's suggestion and I couldn't find the thumbs.db file. It's also strange that I don't have any other nitemaps at the moment, though the problem arose when I tried to install my first one. And just like Yoshiisland, the default Maxis nitemaps don't show up in the BAT rollout either. I don't think a screenshot would help much, but if you think it would, I'll post one. If anyone knows another way to find thumbs.db, or any other way to solve this, it would be a big help.
  18. Graphic bug with cars

Hmm... looks like an LOD issue. Do you have any plugins that have to do with automata (as in car skins), or even something along the streets (such as the street tree mod)? These will limit or grossly overestimate transparency, causing the cars to be a bit glitchy like this. Also, what is your visual setting for cars and pedestrians? Is it on high?

Aaron Graham: The Transportation Building's looking pretty good! I wouldn't change much, maybe put a yellow banner in a window or two (you know there's always at least one crazy person like that), but that's just my sense of humor. *cough* *cough* Oh yeah, I think you should take a quick read through that. I use it all the time whenever I make gabled roofs. Well, Chinatown doesn't have many (any?) gabled or hip roofs. But that's beside the point! The slight changes are like night and day when it comes to realism. Just like what T Wrecks said! Simcity4fan12: Trixies coming soon. Spoiler Alert: NYBT wins an award. I hope. Your buildings are looking good!
  21. nybt-forum-threads NYBT BAT Thread

What a misconception! I've presented all the buildings I was modding that time. So far you didn't give any job for me. quote> I know, I was just messin' with ya. (Good job on those, BTW) Besides, if I did, in fact, prefer skyscrapers, I would be modelling those, right? There's just something that draws me to Chinatown. And frankly speaking, I prefer all the small cosy buildings such like b_schlurf's ones, but don't tell anyone.quote> Uh, yeah, good luck with keeping that a secret here. The whole world now knows. I feel the same way. Large buildings give me vertigo. Being at the top of them doesn't worry me, only looking up from the bottom. Go small buildings!
  22. Game over because of too much money?

Have you found a/the Simcity 'kill screen'? I think you may have. It probably makes sense to you that all games have a certain amount of memory between the CD and RAM, but it's limited. This has been true since Pacman in the 80s, or even if you played Pong for an insane amount of time. You reach a certain point where there is no more memory, and the game shuts itself down in some way. This often kills the character, hence "kill screen". As the records for a city are stored in a file on the computer, there is a limit to the file. If you get too many digits in the memory for city funds, I guess this is the kill screen for it. At least it's more gracious than the Crash to Desktop. Geek talk. EDIT: What I said is similar to what Fire Lancer said. Kill screen, turnover/overflow, it's all the result of not enough memory.
