Did you dezone industry to put in residential? That would almost defeat the purpose. R$ demand can be easily changed by the amount of industry. Grow some industry, demand shoots up. Dezone it, and it goes way down. I once dezoned only 6 city blocks of industry and my +4000 R$ demand dropped to -6000 demand. No exaggeration. Just check how much industry you have, it could be the problem.

Back on the topic of the actual hacking, rather than which image host is better, I found a pretty definitive report. And yes, it was Wikipedia. So it's probably questionable. And not very definitive. I'll just say I found a report: Hack by Anti-Sec The Anti-sec movement's manifesto which had replaced a number of pictures hosted by ImageShack. On July 10, 2009 at 7:34pm EST, the Anti-Sec movement hacked ImageShack. Its goal is to eradicate publication of security exploits. Many images were either replaced or removed. The result of the attack has been to replace all ImageShack hosted images with a manifesto for the movement. The message adds that “no images were harmed in the making of this…image”, implying that ImageShack images are not lost. Most images had been restored by July 11 at 12:00am EST. So there you go, it wasn't the North Koreans, it was Anti-sec. And just in case anyone doesn't know what Anti-SEC is, it's the opposition of the SEC, or Securities and Exchange Commission. So does that solve our issue once and for all? Probably not, there are still a bunch of conspiracies you people might have. I suspect a cover-up, arrests, possibly even more hacks. Discuss.

Really annoying helicopter...
Jumpthefence replied to JonathanCid's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion

Come to think of it, I think simply changing the zoom level once can solve the problem. But it doesn't work all the time, I caution you. Sometimes I get the problem with the police helicopter, and I can't get it to go away. On the other hand, it seems to work every time with the medical helicopter, and I haven't tested it with the news helicopter. -
Originally posted by: chptrk I forgot to mention that it only does this at the 2nd zoom from the most zoomed out quote> Then it probably has to do with LODs. I don't know if you use the Building Architect Tool, but if this is only happening in a few zoom levels, it's the Level of Detail. It's a little complicated if you don't use the BAT. For some people, there are bugs that simply come about in this sort of thing. I don't know the solution to an LOD bug. I'm pretty good at solving problems, but not so much at diagnosing them. So, sorry, but best of luck!

The Capital of the World!
Jumpthefence replied to spacenuteskimo's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
The way I see it, the Capital of the world would come about as the result of a World War 3. Therefore, the city would have a good military force or good defenses. Of the list of cities, Tokyo seems to be the most likely to become the capital of the world. It has plenty of Navy solutions on the east coast of Japan. Being on the east coast it also has a better chance of countering an attack. And of course, it's an island [Japan] , so certain militaries would not have access to Tokyo. It's really all logistical. But if I could choose a city, I would have to go with Munich [Germany] or Bern [switzerland] for one reason: mountain passes. The Alps form a sort of bowl-like barrier around central Switzerland, and it's alot easier to defend a few mountain passes around a city or country than an open area where an attack can come from any direction. Plus, if Switzerland conquers Europe, it'll be able to ship troops and supplies around the world with ease. Unless the Suez Canal is blocked. That would make it difficult. -
Food world giant Oscar Meyer Dies at 95

Let's see, the business got it's start at the turn of the 20th century, and Jr. was born about a decade later... Yeah, I never would've guessed the founder's son would live to see the turn of the 21st century. It amazes me that people can live to be 95. RIP Oscar Mayer Jr -

That'll take you to the same place as that link.

Eventually, everyone's going to be asking for a picture, so if you can, provide a picture. The cause of the problem might be transit enabled lots that usually come with the NAM. The transit enabling (usually in ped-mall tiles or roundabouts) is the culprit. When built over another object, it deletes the lot, but not the building. You may have built something like a roundabout over the radio station. The radio station would still be there, but it would have no purpose. You could still build whatever you wanted in the space. There is probably no risk to the game, as in crashing, freezing or any type of damage. Though the existence of the station may be irreversible, it's (probably) a common bug that is trying to be fixed.

I've been to New York City alot too, and I'm not a big fan of it. Almost any place called a "city" usually gives me vertigo. In fact, that's the case with most buildings over 100 feet. Well then, my favorite cities would probably be: 1. My neighboring town- Amherst, MA 2. Concord, NH 3. Albany, NY 4. Gettysburg, PA 5. Wilks-Barre, PA All those cities are fairly rural-ish for a city, but still are important to the local area, at the very least. Some of the big cities like Boston or New York would be around 10th.

Do we really need a SC5 at this point?
Jumpthefence replied to Wheezy's topic in City-Building Games
Personally, a fifth Simcity would be interesting. But it wouldn't replace Simcity 4. Just look at Cities XL. Everyone thought it would completely replace SC4; make it completely obsolete. Obviously, that wasn't the case, Simcity is still just as popular as it was. A fifth SC would be the same. A portion of the players would transfer to SC5, but at least a quarter or more wouldn't give up on SC4. That's my guess. Personally, I would stay with SC4. It has most everything you want/need in a city building game. Basically, a new Simcity isn't necessary. We have everything we need with SC4. Also, moving plugins could be a hassle, and having to recreate them would be a nightmare. The last thing we need is a rushed game that uses all my memory and Ram and doesn't deliver on promises that costs upwards of $40. -
The weather here in the eastern-northeasten United States has been really weird. I was camping in Pennsylvania, no rain whatsoever for 8 days. Meanwhile, my friend here in western MA said it rained for 6 out of the 8 days. Also, the power went out 5 times. Temperatures stayed below 60 degrees Farenheit (15.5C) in MA, but it broke almost 100 degrees (38C) for a day in PA. It's hardly a heat wave, but it wasn't comfortable. It's quite strange, 2 places only about 300 miles apart having completely opposite weather. Kryptowhite, can you relate to this nasty weather Massachusetts has been getting?

Can a player clear a city tile of a city without destroying the tile in region?
Jumpthefence replied to Fresh Prince of Wmbg's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
If you can't enter the city to use the obliterate city button, you'll have to delete the city. This, of course, will level the terrain as well as deleting the city. Then you can reload the terrain files. Or, you can create a new region, upload the terrain map and upload certain cities (all but the corrupted one). I think either will work fine, but I would try the latter. That's just personal preference. -
I almost had a heart attack myself reading the story, he was such a great musician. It sucks, AP has declared him dead at 6:30pm EDT (about 15 minutes ago). I'm watching the story on the news, but it's not looking good. He would have been 51 this August.

The most embarrassing song on your MP3 player
Jumpthefence replied to Zelgadis's topic in General Off-Topic
Originally posted by: funkychicn I don't listen to mine much (I usually hunt something down on youtube and play it in the background, Jumpthefence's idea).quote> Yeah, that's what I do alright! But looking through the bookmarks pages with a "music" label, I realize I should probably delete a few of them. I have two Michael Jackson songs; everyone hates him now, but he was a great artist in the 80s. Mostly I listen to Piano Man by Billy Joel, which is also my weirdest song on that list. Just don't take it like I'm a depressed drunk, k? Heck, I'll just come out and say all the songs are weird (and partially embarassing). That prettymuch covers it. -
Wow, everyone's being criticized in this thread now! Let's get our act together, k? I do understand that I was supposed to post a picture of the center of the city, or the major distinctive area. I did exactly that. I guess Brownsville is just too residential to be easily found. But c'mon! The rivers were a giveaway! I thought that would make it easy. I have some pent-up rage but I'm not going to express it here. As for the next city, it's way too blurry for me to get a single satellite-image clue. Biggest city in the US? CBS? Crime? It can't be a major city if it only has 30,000 people and it can't be a small city if one clue is CBS... Hmm...

If you scrutinize the image (zoom in on the flag), despite the lighting, you can easily see the flag is blue and yellow. At first I thought it had some white, too, but that's just the white light behind it. The flag of Ukraine is blue over yellow. As for the city, I would have to say it's Kiev, Ukraine. I don't know any other major cities in Ukraine. I'm the first person with two points! Assuming that's right. Nevermind, Nofunk beat me to it.

Nope, it's south of Route 40. Also, it's not in Hawaii, just to point that out. I could imply the continental United States and have it be Hawaii the whole time. But I won't. It is in the continental US. It is pretty far south, though. -Go Red Sox- Indeed.
-
It's below the 35 degree north line. So yes, it's in the south part of the US. That gives you maybe 15 states to search. Just make an east-west line on the north borders of Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona. Those borders were founded on the 35 degree latitude. More or less. See, you learned something!

What the French Toast? I'm out of the house for ONE day and you guys have a party without me! Nah, I'm just kiddin', you people are alright. Anyway, I recognized Pueblo, Colorado pretty quickly because I was looking in that area in a previous "Guess that City". The picture's also a little bit of Aberdeen, CO, but that's not a major detail. Anyways, I'll post now, obviously. I have to say, the rivers in the picture are very confusing... (that's not really a clue- but there ARE rivers) Good Luck!

Well, yes, Passage du Commerce is French, so I was going to guess Paris anyway, but the image's name is rue_de_paris. So yes, it's Paris, France.
-
Oh, shoot, I didn't look at the picture close enough. Budapest Capital Building doesn't have the spire on the left in the picture. Those walls on the bottom of the picture, are those retaining walls, or are they on the water's edge in Venice, Italy? That's more correct looking. In retrospect.
-
Has to be Budapest, Hungary. Anyone else a member of SkyscraperCityXL? That was their banner a week or so ago. If it's correct, I'm not going to post a picture. I'll stay with Guess that City-American Version. USA!

Wikipedia demonstrates: There could be 5, 4, 3 or 1 ocean(s), depending on your view. 5 oceans if you include the Southern Ocean. 4 if you don't include it (like me). 3 if you consider the Arctic Ocean a continuation of the other 3 main oceans. 1 if you think of it as the World Ocean. The article mainly summarizes it as being 5 oceans. Also: The IHO promulgated the decision on its existence in 2000, though many mariners have long regarded the term as traditional. The Southern Ocean appeared in the IHO's Limits of Oceans and Seas second edition (1937), disappeared from the third edition (1957), and resurfaced in the fourth edition (not yet[update] formally adopted due to a number of unresolved disputes). So, the change came in 2000, to anyone who was wondering. I still don't think it should count as an ocean, but to quote Zelgadis, "Jeepers, we need more oceans". And while we're on a controversial subject: From its discovery in 1930 until 2006, Pluto was considered the Solar System's ninth planet. In the late 1970s, following the discovery of minor planet 2060 Chiron in the outer Solar System and the recognition of Pluto's very low mass, its status as a major planet began to be questioned. Later, in the early 21st century, many objects similar to Pluto were discovered in the outer solar system, notably the scattered disc object Eris, which is 27% more massive than Pluto. On August 24, 2006, the IAU defined the term "planet" for the first time. This definition excluded Pluto as a planet, and added it as a member of the new category "dwarf planet" along with Eris and Ceres. After the reclassification, Pluto was added to the list of minor planets and given the number 134340. A number of scientists continue to hold that Pluto should be classified as a planet. A agree with said scientists.

Let me just say this: I'll see what I can do. I started this project a month or two ago, but it ran out of steam. But if there's interest, I'll get started again. I'm not the greatest BAT-er, but I can make an okay model (depending on the size) in a total of 8-10 hours. Let's see, I'm the copyboy at TCUMass for about an hour each weekday, and I get to spend the rest of the time on the computer. If I'm there from 9:00-1:00 every weekday, I can make a model every two days. Doesn't sound too bad. As my signature says, I'm open to any BAT ideas.

This is probably where you've seen it. It's made by using the SC4 Terraformer. You lay down the highway on low ground, then change the ground with the Terraformer. It must cause some kind of error, and magically you have a "land bridge", as I've heard it called. Just visit the link to see what I'm talking about. It's a really cool hack.
