  2. BATs Currently in Progress

    Well, I'm kind of starting small, but I'm working on a big project of mine called the "Eagleland Set" project. Basically, it's kind of a tribute to all the time I've played SC3K Unlimited in a way... Well, here's the houses I've got so far; there's plenty more to come of these little guys since I'm using on house as a template sort of thing. Anyway, that's just a preview; I'm planning on doing a lot of different buildings and such, as well as to build replacement parks to use over the Maxis ones. After I've got some thunder and such behind the things, I'm gonna start my own thread.

    I don't know if it's exactly the lighting that's causing the problem; but maybe because the building is a little too bizarre maybe? I mean it looks really out there and far from normal (of course, what am I talking about, the building set I'm almost done working with looks like it came from the Simpsons due to my rather cartoony textures, but then again, I'm going for the SC3K kind of feel). =/ Work with the scaling, but also try to make things look a little more subtle too; that's all I can say.

    Hey, that little bit helped... Thanks. I was making a basic PNG file, but without the black. Anyway, I have one more newbie question: how do I work with the range I have? 0xF5980000 is what I named my first basic grass texture, so how do I name the next one in order? I couldn't get the instructions at the beginning of this thread too well. =/

    I suggest to just randomnize which windows are on or off; it's kind of unrealistic for an office building or apartment to have all the lights on at once.

  10. Yeah, I'm kind of new around here, but I'm a bit familar with the modding community and such... Anyway, I was wanting to retexture the streets, roads, avenues, and highways to make them all a standard gray concrete color, but for some reason, I don't get the correct textures from the dat files of the games or the NAM (which has the left hand turns that I need to work with). Any help, suggestions, or things I need to do?

    I think I'll be able to handle this; after all, I've done some far larger and scarier things beforehand... Anyway, I'd like a link to those things you were talking about dedgren, if you don't mind. (By the way, the link takes me to the picture like the one you have in your post).

    I got the Reader, SC4 Tool, and Photoshop as well as Fishman, and I know it's going to be a lot of work, but for some reason, I can't get the correct textures of the games or the NAM mod (I get all the ones that don't include the turn lanes and stuff like that, unless I need to open a specific DAT file of some sort, which what I am trying to figure out...).

  14. customers? how do i increase them

    Really, you need to just experiment around with commercial zones a bit to see how they work. For me, I've found it's best to have them either scattered around at the end of your residential areas or to have them placed between residential areas and industrial areas, since most sims start off working in factories anyway, and the traffic flow that occurs between the zones will help the commercial zones grow better. If you're playing out cities spread across regions, try placing some commercial zones at the edge of maps along your highways and avenues that exit through into the regions (well, that's all that I usually have exiting out of my city are highways, avenues, and rail systems, but this works with plain roads as well). A good thing to help boost the population is to have a neighborhood with it's parks, schools, and hospitals in one section all together, although there are many methods to this and how it can be done... So I'm not much help here. =/

  16. how many still use rails?

    I use them quite often; I mostly build cities that resemble much of the Midwestern US half of the time, and most of those cities have railways running through them. It also leads to rather bizarre city designs.

    Yeah, I should have clarified a bit better. =P I was talking about ground/base textures. Anyway, I would like a texture range for the base and ground textures, since I am making those too. As for the roads and rails, I see what you mean, so I don't have to worry about those then. Hopefully that clears up things a bit.

    Ah yes, SC3000 (or the Unlimited version that I got), was indeed a good game. Quite interesting to hear that they plan to merge the sites together... however, does this mean that there might not be anymore Sim City games? (As for the Wren Insurance building... There's a possibility... D: )

  21. Molding the region...

    Currently, I am building up the region of this place within the game. Although I've got a few cities established, I need to finish building up the rest of the landscape for all to grow on.

Yeah, I'm new here and I feel really stupid; I got the transportation download, made some nice cities, and I'm trying to reduce the Maxis factor (though I do wish I could find the European and Asian building set replicas from SC3K Unlimited if anyone knows what I'm talking about). But really I just need general help to get around the board...
