  1. Update: Firstly, thank you for all your help! I didn't overwrite the regions, but I did find a couple of saved games and they work just fine. (I copied them into the corresponding regions). But, I tried changing the settings in the game from software to hardware rendering. The game would not start at all after I did this. So, did a google, added the -d:software to the command line in launch startup, so was able to then go change it back to software, then it started right up. So, I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card and would love to be able to use it, but I don't know how. It's frustrating that it's not very clear to look at & it also kinda lags & drags the graphics while zoomed in moving around. I play Banished a lot & City Skylines so I'm used to pretty darn good graphics. I have no idea if I could possible get SimCity to look half as nice as it's so old.
  2. Thank you, I will change the settings! Do you know if I can overwrite the steam regions with my backup regions safely?
  3. Thank you for all your help! I seem to have everything working, but I wish I could find my saved games from before. I did find one and added into the regions, but I can't find the other. Oh well.. I did set my launch option to -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -intro:off -CPUCount:1 But it does seem a little blurry when zooming in. Maybe I should bring the resolution down? The 1920x1080 is what my computer resolution is set at, but I know it's tricky to get this old of a game to run well on newer computers. I have set all the options to "high" in the graphics options and I have "software rendering" set in the options as well. Thanks for your help! Edit: Another question, can I just copy and paste all my old regions over the top of the ones that Steam created? That way all my old cities would show up (hopefully), but I don't know if that would screw things up in Steam?
  4. So, I haven't played in ages, but I did buy it on Steam awhile back, but just now attempting to set everything up right. I already have tons of files, plugins, etc. from before, but they are all on my D drive. I have Steam set to install games on my D drive. My downloads folder is on my D drive and is just called "Documents". So I copied all my plugins to the steam plugin folder and I just downloaded the latest NAM. I was installing it and of course I didn't have Java installed, so I did that, but before I run the installer again for the NAM, I need to know where does it go? If I'm putting my plugins in the steam folder, where should the NAM go? I also have some misc. plugins that have .exe files in them. I need to know if there should only be .dat files in the steam plugins folder? I have a ton of old plugins & I really need to refresh my memory on stuff, but I want to get everything setup properly since I'm moving to Steam. (Windows 10) Would really appreciate some help.
  5. I do have the file path correct, but I do have a question... when downloading mods, etc. is it okay to put them in sub-folders under the plugins folder? I have a lot of sub-folders in my plugins folder so I could keep track of the main name of them. Or should all the .dat, .lot, SC4lot, etc. files just go directly into the plugins folder? I am going to clean all this mess up and I want to do it right. Thank you for your help! Thank you for all your advice. I was pretty sure this was going to be the answer, but was hoping I was wrong! I just need to start all over I guess. I have never heard of the I-HT fix at all, so I will be sure and do that with the NAM first. One more thing I would like to know. I was looking through all the mods you can download and stuff and a lot of them said they were obsolete, but still had the download link and file. I guess these are just abandoned mods and may or may not work? Try it (one at a time) and see type of thing? I used to know all this stuff, but it's been so long since I seriously played the game. thanks so much...
  6. Have had SimCity 4 Rush hour for years, but stopped playing it a few years ago due to just life in general... Recently it was on sale at Steam at Christmas time, so I bought it just because it would be easier (not having to deal with putting the disc in, etc. and yes I am that lazy) So, in the past, I have downloaded so many plugins from here and the other sites that I have an absolute ton of them, which I know are obsolete after looking on here for hours and downloading some more. I put them all in my docs/simcity/plugins folder, but there's so many it's making my head explode. I'm trying to play this game through steam and it runs fine so far, but plugins are missing, even new ones I downloaded today are not showing up in the game and they didn't need dependencies. My question really is, should I do a complete uninstall of the game that I have on my system from the CD's if I'm now playing the game through Steam? Will worlds collide if both are on my computer? I did download the newest NAM, because I know that is an important one, but how does one know if certain plugins don't work anymore, or can they even just stop working? The idea of moving them all somewhere and starting over is completely overwhelming, but I have loved this game forever and I would really like to have it all cleaned up. I don't mind starting new cities, I just want things to run right. I have set the launch options in Steam to : -CustomResolution:enabled -r1600x900x32 -intro:off -CPUCount:1 And I read here in the forums that if it's from Steam, it comes already patched. So, i guess my two main questions are, should I uninstall the CD version and also, how in the world does a person know if a plugin is dead? Right now I feel like just deleting them all, but then I won't remember which ones I loved having.
  7. how do i make a backup CD?

Thanks so far the input from you guys, this is really what I need to know... If people here have been able to make a copy and then use it to play the game, then I would know if by trying to do this, I wouldn't be banging my head against a brick wall for no reason... The disc 2 is the one that won't copy and that is the disc that I have to put in everytime I play. So if making a copy of that won't let me play the game, then it's not going to be any use when my original bites the dust (which it seems is happening). I wonder why, if you can make a copy, why you wouldn't be able to use it to play, that doesn't make any sense to me. I wonder if I took it down to a gamer store, if they could buff it out for me... I've bought used WII games before and they had a big machine for really cleaning and buffing the disc... I appreciate your help!
  8. how do i make a backup CD?

Yes, as I said in my original post, I did try Nero and it gave me read errors... this is what worries me, that my disc 2 is screwed up and I will have to buy the game again. I was wondering if there is some kind of special copyrighting on it that is stopping me. But it sure seems like a person should be able to backup their own game for pete's sake!
  9. Hi all, I'm not asking to do anything illegal here. I believe I read somewhere that I can make a backup of my game in case something happens to my original, which is what I am worried about, so I was able to copy my disc 1 of SimCity4 (with rushhour) but when I try to make a copy of disc 2 (which is the one I use constantly in my computer when I play) I get error messages. On my laptop, using Roxio creator basic, it tells me there are scratches on the CD (which makes me want to make a copy even more because of this) and I tried to copy it on my desktop using Nero and it just tells me there is a read error. So, does anyone have any advice on this? Has anyone been able to make a copy of their CD's? And if so, how? thanks in advance, JD
  10. Thanks for the help so far.. I've figured out how to get most of the duplicates out. because i brought them into the plugin manager a couple days after downloading them, i can see 2 with 2 different modified dates. so when i delete the 1st one, it gets rid of the duplicates... i downloaded some stuff over at simcity.com and the problem i'm having with them is that they don't show up anywhere in the menu... i downloaded some farms, etc.. and i can't figure out how to find them to put them in. I did go in and look at the existing regions that come with the game and picked one to re-start out with that had some large sized city squares... it's just a pain to have to go out to region view and jump around. But I love the game so much that i will get used to it! thanks, JD
  11. Hi all, I love SimCity 4 (deluxe) and have been an avid fan since the beginning... I have a couple questions about SimCity 4 that i just can't find a clear answer on and believe me I've spent a ton of time reading all the sites... first, has anyone created or figured out a way to "join" the regions together? this is one thing I didn't like in this game, the cities are so much smaller than in SimCity 3000... I really don't like the separate cities in the region thing... next, I have committed what I saw called "plug-in suicide" I think. I downloaded a bunch of stuff, then when I couldn't see hardly any of them in the menu, I downloaded the lot editor and then brought a bunch in and "saved as" into the game. Than I read about "plug-in suicide" So, my first question here is, how do I get rid of multiple menu items? I now have duplicate things in the game menu and I can't figure out how to remove them. I can't find the answer to this question anywhere! I downloaded the bat, the SC4 Tool, the plug-in manager and I still can't figure it out. The amount of information, add-ons, downloads for this game is completely overwhelming! Basically, I doubt it will be awhile before I want to attempt making my own lots & props, (but apparently I have everything I need for that now)... I just want to know which add-ons or whatever do I need to see and delete multiple things from my menu, how do I rename things (example, I downloaded a "Large Firestation", it shows up twice in my game menu as "custom ploppable - insert ploppable description here" . I thought the plug-in manager would let me see the props, plops and stuff and organize them, but it doesn't seem to help, or maybe my head is just too rummy to get it. I also have things I downloaded in my plug-ins (in my docs/SimCity4/plug-ins) folder that I have no idea what they are, so I don't know whether I could or should delete them.. Any help would be so much appreciated!!! I feel like a total moron for not being able to figure this all out! I just want to play the game and add in some of the cool things that are out there. And I really wish my cities could be bigger. jd
