Rock, Paper, Shotgun lashes out at EA and simcity.
Dargor replied to Djohaal's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
One reason to defend the game as it is probably lies within the growing acceptance. As complaining will not change anything, some people try another strategy. They've payed for it. In order to feel a bit better, they are telling themselves it isn't all that bad. See, I think this holds some truth. It's like when your fiancée bought two much clothing at once. At first, you hate it. Then, when she's telling you there's no way she's bringing it back, you can either shout or live with it. Next step is to say the colour of the dress doesn't look so bad on her. Probably some consumers are trying to come to terms with the online restriction by trying to accept the limitations. People that spend money on the game only have two options, after all. They can either throw away the game and say bye to their dollars, or deal with the DRM and play the game. And playing the game is a lot more fun if you forget about your biggest grievances. -
Regardless whether he works there or not, I am impressed by the words and style. A very well-written piece that puts into words many complaints and concerns that really should make EA's executives blush. I agree with almost all. It really looks like all of those mentioned values have been ignored.

Maxis: A SimCity Update - And something for your troubles
Dargor commented on Dirktator's article in News
The consensus amongst players is that this is a great game?? Seriously... Even when you take away all the troubles with the servers, the online play leaves still a lot to be desired (read: taken away...) But at least they're trying to repair some damage. Bad thing is: You can't make negativity disappear. The memories remain. -
Exactly. In some news stories it said exaggeratingly SimCity's launch was such an extreme succes, to such an extend, that hundreds of thousands of eager players overloaded the servers. Yeah, right. We're too blame. We shouldn't be so enthousiastic! I am so glad I didn't buy the game. It's all so predictable as well it's almost funny. It's pure theft. You pay, say $50 for a game, only to find out it doesn't work. You buy frustration. They're opening new servers, but that's only part of the problem.

Pouria, your comments are spot on. That is how I feel, this isn't really Sim City. Weird, because it obviously still is. But it's such a drastic step away from what the game once was. Probably, well, I am quite about it actually, they didn't want to make a game like SC4. People still play that one. They could've just updated the graphics or something I think most issues circle around the DRM/serves issues. The game mostly it rated for what it is not, rather than for what it is. It's not a toy to create realistic cities like SC4. It's a whole lot different. Maybe in some time a small group can actually appreciate for what it is.

Thanks for the all the good work, soltangris! I only got the game this weekend (never played CXL before), and I was wondering about a couple of things. Right now I am having a hard time making a profit, but that is a common problem with these games It's hard to figure out why certain industrial, commercial or manufacturial zones won't develop even when both skilled and unskilled workers ask for jobs (for instance). The possibility to lay out roads like in real is a treat!

Wow... This is very good news for me! It means I will buy the game

Google Earth Buildings to SimCity 4?
Dargor replied to torontosubway's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Obviously he is talking about the 3D Models, so indeed you are completely missing the point, haha In Google Earth you have a 3D View, which will give you the impression you are in some kind of city building game. -
Wow, what a negativity here... I've seen and read enough of it to make me cancel my preorder of CLX on the site of an online retailer. Of course opinions are basically just that, and the game has to be released yet. But we all know when so much people have doubts and mixed feelings about so many different things involving the game, there has to be some truth. The money-issue adds to it. I'm not going to say I won't buy the game. But I will take the chance to see reviews first, and hopefully at this site in two months or so I have been able to check reviews from your folks as well.

The middle one has to be San José

This is a terrific joke! Very, very clever. My compliments!! My first thoughts were:' "OMG, what the hell is this?", then I wondered how I am going to place 100.000+ people, just before I realised it was April 1st... Brilliant!
-
Wow, that is amazing!

That's a very cool and natural looking skyline you show there! The green areas also form a nice contrast towards the terrain mod you're using

Global warming IS happening, whether humans are responsible or not. If we can do something to keep our planet liveable for future generations, why shouldn't we do it?

It's the first time I see this (and this is my first post on SimTrop since ages!!) and I like it a lot Frogface! Very original and I am sure you have fun with this. Keep up the good work

Sim City 5 news on Gamespot... for what its worth
Dargor posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Sim City 5 under construction? Maxis' Luc Barthelet tells French TV that development on the next virtual metropolis has begun. Maxis won't comment. According to the Web site for the German magazine PC Games, development on Sim City 5 has begun. The http://www.pcgames.de/index.cfm?article_id=273061>pcgames.de article says Maxis general manager Luc Barthelet recently told a French television show that development started this month on the game. The article also said Electronic Arts was looking for a new mitarbeiter on the project. Since that roughty translates as co-worker, it could mean either EA is looking for another corporate partner in addition to Maxis or new development staff to work on the game. However, when GameSpot contacted Maxis, they issued a flat no comment. Another source said Barthelet was merely speculating on the Sim City franchise's future and that too much was read into his comments. But, given the popularity of the series, it's not so much a question of if development will begin on Sim City 5, but when. By Tor Thorsen, GameSpot [postED: 01/21/04 01:53 PM] -
Maybe this thread is not necessary, but it's impossible to see if this was done before It might be a help for someone new, or a nice guide for the ones that didn't know this I recently tried a new way to make nice roundabouts for some low-rise neighbourhoods I have in development, and discovered something new. Normally I was making roundabouts with just roads, and it looked weird... Sims driving in opposite direction With Rush Hour we got one way-roads, but still I wasn't satisfied. For a real small roundabout I am using avenues right now. The last picture is the result. I think this is the best possible roundabout to end roads in low-rise neighbourhoods I hope this is a nice thread for at least someone!

Dargor replied to pnorrell's topic in Simtropolis Related
I have cable internet, but almost wasn't possible to use the forums yesterday... Every page took forever to load, while my internet was fine for the rest. When I saw this thread, I wanted to post in it. But I couldn't even do that! After 2 minutes of waiting (yes, really that long) the page opened. I typed a reply and did submit it, but then I got the time-out error twice. Then I just gave up Fortunately the forums are accessable again now. -
Welcome here and thanks for your interest! This is my new old CJ... I guess most of you are familiar with my project because I started this in september 2003... I decided to give my city a new thread for several reasons. On the first 4 pages of the other City Journal, there are no pictures anymore - and I can
