i KNOW that its not the Grapics card, it probably has something to do with you changing from Nvidia -> Ati without reformatting(or atleast reinstalling windows). Ive had the same problem, not with sc4 though, but when i switched from a GF2 GTS to a 9600. After reinstalling windows with a clean formation everything worked fine. Also, use ATI's drivers, they are generally better then the ones Asus/Hercules/whatever make. There availible at www.ati.com Before giving up try to renstall widows, only takes 1-2 hours anyway. The Anti Aliasing and other setting are in the catalyst control panel, try setting the lever to Best Preformance and se if it solves the problem. Cheers //Sim

<B>Athlon Vs Intel: </B>Intel was left behind in the dust as the New Atholn 64's were put on the market. An Athlon running at 2ghz is faster than a P4 at 3ghz. and thats on the old processors. Not only are Athlons Faster, there also cheaper and more reliable. They also have the memory controler onboard so that anything which uses the system memory(RAM) will run faster. Intel has their on the motherboard. IMO, the only reason to buy Intel is if you want to pay more for less(to be able to brag about how much mony you paid for your system or whatever). Id say go AMD, NMW! Even Semprons/Opertons are better than their intel equavilents. <B>Ati Vs Nvidia: </B>This is more of a preferance, as i said earlier, Ati is better at D3d games, Nvida at OpenGL. Highend(~1000USD) I belive Nvida has a 1% edge, However in the Mid/Low ranges Ati has the edge, and usualy by quite much, due to more pipelines and faster cores. Unless your buying an X850XT/6600GT or newer models of grapics cards its useless to have 256mb of memory on them. why? because there to slow to run that ammount of memory efficently anyway. (It is a trick to get people to pay more for a card that the numbers are better on but preformance is lower... freeking capitalism...) Id say get a decent RAM stick instead of a 256mb graphics card, since it will have a greater impact on preformance having an extra gb of memory in the system rather than 128 extra on the graphics card. Teddy, no worries ^^ RLS = Real Life Syndrome, used quite avidly on forums when people dissapear and such. Even though i visit ST(mainly from school nowadays) quite frequently i dont have the time to make a bat that will take me 15-30 hours to complete. not with all the things going on(RL) atm. I never was very good at the BAT, i can make some basic stuff, what i really wanted with my part of this was to get peoples heads spinnning, for out great BAT-Artists to come forth and design some terminals, and quite frankly, i think ive sucseeded very well doing this ^^ Now we all just have to wait for them to be released With me learning to: Play Guitar, Drive a car, Japanece, annd all the stuff for school With me Playing to much multiplayer games With me spending about 5 hours a day in freeking busses to get and from school(

Nvidia is currently the best gpu for gaming, and while ATI's newest top of the line card is better than Nvidias, you would have to pay a fortune for it. For example, with Nvidia cards buildings will render while you are dragging across your city, with ATI they will not. Also, might be fun to know that all grapical gliches ive ever experienced were on Nvida cards, which is why i dont buy em anymore. and in sc4, ive never heard of anyone having grapical problems on an ATI card. just make sure you use the latest drivers and try to find the ATI fix here at ST. Some Hint on parts here: Processor: AMD 64(or Operton) on a socket 939/940 (Because AMD is just so superior to intel atm) Motherboard: EPoX/Asus/DFI with PCI-Express(because it will save money if you wish to upgrade in the future) Memory: Corsair or Kingston, nuff said, atleast 1gb Grapics Card: ATI X1*00pro/xt Series, Alternatively X850XT, Powercolor, HiS are good brands. Harddrives: Just preferably S-ATA, Western Digital and Seagate are good brands The rest i guess is mostley preference, Harddrives, case, dvd-roms and so on... and dont bother with a floppy disk, its not used anyway. Oh, and im recomending from personal use ^_- not some fancy pancy guide somewhere. Might be worth checking up when AMD is releasing their M2 socket, since it would be more worth waiting for that to come(and the 939/940 will sink in price). Hope this was to any help Cheers //Sim

Well... if there is something worth dooing of the windows tools, its defragging. keeps everything in its place and makes the drive faster. as Sc4 is a harddrive relaiant game(with the swapfiles and millions of plugins) you will notice a difference if youve never done it before, try to do it once a month, for the health of the PC. even if windows says you dont need to, do it anyway just to be on the good side. i mean, spending 0$ & a few hours to improve the preformance of your machine? Hah! that page wont let me do the test since im runing a 64bit system ^^ fancy that! Anyway here are my specs, (from the one who knows what i built, not a webpage) Processor: AMD Athlon 64 2000mhz[3000+] @ 2400mhz[3600+] Graphics Card: HiS X850xt 256mb (Agp Memory: 1gb Corsair XMS Pro Memory(and im getting another 1gb when Oblivion is released) OS: MS Windows XP x64 Total Disk Space: 817GB Free Disk Space: ~220GB(22 reserved for nothing on OS disk) Optical drives: DVD-Recorder, Wacom Tablet, (NO Floppy disk drive... they should all just go and DIE) Sound: SB Audigy(6.1) into a expensive sterio reciver. And just for the point, Intel is way behing Amd in speed. just look at how much smother any AMD machine runs in comparison to the equivalent Intel one. and they overclock a lot nicer too ^^ Cheers //Sim

The Processor seems to be on a 754 socket, instead of the newer 939/940 socket. judging by its speed. What i mean by this is that AMD 64 processors sold alone for this socket(754) aint manucatured anymore, there outdated(and yes... im on one of those outdated processors wishing id spent 100USD more for a 939 system, instead of spending 3-400USD to upgrade now). Ive found that the chepest way to get around is to buy the newest technologies(note newest, not best), and then upgrade them to the best just before they are taken out of stock(at their chepest moment). that way you will have a top-preforming PC for probably 4-5 years, instead of having a awsome machine for 3 years, and then having to buy a completley new one anyway.
