Soon, SimCity Update 1.9, and then?
el.lopan replied to WJ_Webhog's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Too soon. All I know is I am not buying it before it has reached around 1.100... -
Not surprising, many people were so blindly hyped they were like "omgg new and shinyyy, take my money" and they would even pay 100USD for more shiny dlcs.

MaxisGuillaume shows a video of traffic fixes :D
el.lopan replied to SirChick's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Hi, is there any plans to make bus and streetcars more realistic? Setting a path for them to go and pick up any sims along the route instead of them driving everywhere. I liked that idea. It'd be awesome if we could control the buses and streetcars routes, like in Cities in Motion. But too bad they got plenty of stuff in badly need of repair first. -
Civitas, a possible alternative to SimCity 2013 on Kickstarter
el.lopan replied to Charizard's topic in Gaming Talk
They looked all too amateurish, I don't think they had the expertise to create something so complex. -
NeoGaf user outed as EA/Maxis plant.

I think we got EA/Maxis agents working undercover in this very community. -
Does anybody still believe a word of what Mrs. Bradshaw speaks?

Videos show path finding inherently "broken"
el.lopan replied to Dirktator's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Yeah, then you go back to work at McDonalds the next morning in your Maserati to flip burgers in a suit. Best burger flipper ever. That's Communist SimCity, comrades, private property is no more. Everything is everyone's! -
More on EA/Maxis regarding the game always having to be online for the simulation to work properly.
el.lopan replied to Charizard's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Yes, but she (and many from Maxis) said that our client computers weren't "powerful enough" to handle all the simulation, so many calculations were made in the server because of that, which is obviously a lie. According to the source, only the social aspects are handled by the servers, the core gameplay is entirely done locally. Also, she said that it'd take "significant engineering" to make it SP, which, according to the source is a lie too. -
Videos show path finding inherently "broken"
el.lopan replied to Dirktator's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
If you want to compare this scenario to "IRL", then nor do real people take the worst route 100% of the time. If a sim were going from point A to point B far apart through a complex path of avenues, intersections and whatever, then sometimes it'd be acceptable if the best route wasn't chosen, just like IRL. On the other hand, if you got 2 roads ahead in parallel that clearly lead to the same way, the first one is completely free and the second one got a heavy traffic jam and you choose to go through the jammed one, one could only call you a masochist. -

Bingo. Basically, the pathfinding algorithm is like: 1- Find the shortest possible route. 2- Ignore all other options and variables. -
24 Hours of Gameplay. Must Read!
el.lopan replied to Catchin22's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Normally this would aggravate me to no end. When I played Sims3 (which I hated) I felt like it was an incomplete game and they were just selling DLC to make it complete. With 2013 I don't feel that way, I feel like I got SO much for $60 as is that I am willing to spend money on DLC. I DO want that to be priced fairly though, on the other hand its nice to pay a mint for something to show off, especially in an online game such as this. If the prices on all the DLC were super low it wouldn't be nearly as special. Heck, I spent $2500 on TF2, I think I can put a few hundred bucks into this game if I want. I don't think anyone is going to feel limited for not doing it though. On the other hand, if they expand map sizes I hope that is free for everyone. I did notice one downside possibly to the DLC. When I went online to play on a random region I couldn't take over an abandoned city because I didn't have the content that person had who was playing it. That could be a problem for sure. Well, nowadays, nothing pisses me off more than getting a intentionally crude game and then be offered essential overpriced pieces of it. These 3 overpriced dlcs are just a small taste of what is to come. I haven't played the game, but differently from you, I think it feels pretty "incomplete", lacking many essential features thoroughly discussed and building variety. If they release a true expansion pack like Rush Hour was with the currently missing features, I got no problem with that. But if they are going to release piece by piece for 10 bucks each, then this is just folly. And if you are willing to pay 1, 2, 3 or 4 thousand dollars or whatever in a computer game, go ahead, that's you, it is your right. After all, if there is who is willing to buy ultra-mega-hyper-cool buildings for 10 bucks a piece or more, there is who is willing to sell too. But I think most, including me, being very optimistic, wouldn't go over 1/10 of that. Yep, the DLC synchronization stuff is just plain stupid. Just one more way to try to force people buy more dlcs. Kotaku says it all: http://kotaku.com/5989503/the-many-ways-we-didnt-get-to-play-simcity-this-week?tag=simcity-disaster_watch -
24 Hours of Gameplay. Must Read!
el.lopan replied to Catchin22's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
The game looks nice bro. The problem is we are going to get flooded with all kinds of expensive dlcs, like the ones you mentioned. ps. They don't even mention the amount of buildings that come in the dlcs, I've no idea whether it's 5 or 50. That's ridiculous. Yep same sensation here, though. Like a car salesman. -
Supposed EA Employee criticize company over Simcity

Disaster following disaster -
Many people are still not able to play the game or being kicked every so often and whatever. Strangely some can play some cannot. But OP is part of the lucky team, so everyone should stop complaining.

You know it's bad when the BBC covers it...

Anyone else find this Ironic?
el.lopan replied to pkderek's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
One more "ironic" fact I'd like to share with you: Remember when EA said something like "PCs don't have enough horsepower to process the huge amount of data a bigger city tile would produce and that's why we do some part of processing in our servers, so there you have the inherent DRM". Now, take a look at this: https://twitter.com/moskow23/status/296355832998801408 Dan Morkowitz is SC's lead gameplay engineer. He's basically telling us that the core gameplay makes use of only one CPU core. And that explains a lot of things. Nowadays most domestic CPUs have 4-8 cores, and yet it's chiefly using only 1 core. So, now you know why PCs -even the more powerful- doesn't have enough horsepower to run the game and why the city tiles are so small and why it's "necessary" to have the server-side processing. -
I feel bad for Ocean Quigley.
el.lopan replied to niac123's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
No one knows exactly how is EA relation with the studios. But one thing is for sure: -Mr Quigley, do this, that and more that -But... -No but, now go to your desk -Yes, sir *lowers the head and goes away* -
Wow. Polygon has lowered their score even further
el.lopan replied to cirugo's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Wow... I was expecting a flop, but not a miserable failure like this. EA surprised me lol -
It might be a joke but it strangely has something that resembles reality. :kitty:

Anyone else find this Ironic?
el.lopan replied to pkderek's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Want to know what else is ironic? http://www.simcity.com/en_US/blog/article/building-for-the-future Start a text/speech crafted by a senior PR with "We love you, you fans are very important to us" and then tell a fairy tale: "And so our magnificent players were having such a good time that they didn't want to live their real lifes anymore." That sounds so beautiful the way he says. When in fact, the obvious translation to this BS would be: "Yes, we did that stuff that some airline companies do: overbooking. We sold more than we could handle. We wanted to swell our sales. Who cares if there is no room in the servers for everybody?" -
Completely unable to play
el.lopan replied to BlueSmoke's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Man this just bugs the hell out of me. I login to the game and try to load one of my cities and I get a little window that slides down from the top left of the game screen that tells me "SimCity servers are all down - Trying to reconnect". Meanwhile over on my 2nd and 3rd monitor I'm watching two different people playing the game and streaming it over on Twitch. Down my ass! There are obviously people that are playing the game and it's not completely down, only partially down. If they need to they should shut down all the servers to fix them all at once and not do this some servers down, some servers not, some authentication servers down, some not stuff. I'm about fed up with this for today so I'm not even going to bother trying again until maybe tomorrow or the next day. This stuff as well as the EA forums just makes me not want to play the game at all anyway and I am a really die hard SimCity 4 fan and have wanted a Simcity sequel more than any other game I've ever wanted, even more than I wanted a sequel to Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction. At least with Diablo 3, both my wife and myself were able to play it about 3 or 5 hours after release and we never got kicked, we played through the morning, into the next afternoon and again through the night with only an occasional down from the servers being taken offline from what I remember but we were able to jump right back on. Guess we were 2 of the lucky ones, but with SC13, I've not been able to play since about 5 hours after it was opened up. Meanwhile Origin says that I've played Simcity for 15 hours, but I can guarantee I've actually only played it about 3 to 4 hours, the rest of the time has been trying to login to play Perhaps, in this moment of crisis, EA is letting in only those who pre-ordered the ultra-cool-mega-hyper-digital-deluxe version. You can expect anything from them, who knows. -

Zpike: You post a rant belittling those that don't agree with you, then tell US to start thinking? Comedy gold right there, folks! Articles like this have only served to make EA look worse than they already did, and are only useful for turning more people away from them completely. The sooner they learn that (they won't) the better. Adults are able to form their own opinions and not throw tantrums when they aren't agreed with. His post was so hilarious he looks like a paid EA PR striving to make a good impression on EA. Zpike: You post a rant belittling those that don't agree with you, then tell US to start thinking? Yep, just like the topic I made a few weeks ago and got locked. EA's DLC extravaganza buy this building, buy that vehicle and buy more that feature will be there in its full glory. But, of course, it's all speculation and we don't know EA's reputation. Perhaps these DLCs will be free or exchangeable for symbolic happy smileys.
