  1. Try building neighbor connections, even if there's nothing on the other end you still need them. If your city is large enough, try making an airport. I'll give more tips when you give me a screenshot with details on the problem.
  2. Kanopolis

Moving towards the city center: Ground level shot at the AMA Building in the civic district. (Sorry about the clone offices, but the city is 90% Maxis.) Wide view of the developing east side. The highway running through the picture is I-69, with some mid-rise office towers rising around the El-train line. The financial district is centered around the Kanopolis Stock Exchange. On the far left low class homes can be seen. Now, we head out west, to a bit of suburban life: This planned rowhouse development has quickly become known for its quality lifestyle. The local clinic is just down the road from the entrance and schools here provide top notch education for the children of the neighborhood. Interstate 69 provides fast efficient access for commuters to the city center. It served as the nucleus that spurred the growth of the suburbs. As you can see, the clean, open area is quite lucrative to technology companies. The City of Kanopolis is in the process of adding parallel frontage roads to its highways, in the hopes of attracting more commerce to the area. NEXT UPDATE: Completion of the Interstates within current Kanopolis city limits. Kanopolis University and Country Club neighborhood. East Beach. Regional shots of the Greater Kanopolis Area. (In case anyone wanted to know, all the tiles in this city are built on Hard difficulty without cheats. Kanopolis itself currently has well over $4 million in funds. All RCI in all cities is 100% natural grown without any plops. Most of them are from the Maxis set)
  3. Monorail Ideas

The reason I want monorail to be like this is that it could become like a bullet train rapid transit network, doing the light rail's job but far more efficiently, the only drawback being a high price tag. I hope maybe it might be in a future NAM, if it is at all possible.
  4. City ONLY demands FARMS!!!??

Like I said earlier, if you make your city busier and more polluted, along with overthetop taxes, the farmers will leave and never come back.
  5. Hotels?

We have tons of luxury hotels, what we really need are more cheap motel 6 type buildings. Seriously, how realistic is it to have only one roach motel but 500 5 star hotels.
  6. True City

It also could be the road system of an american suburb, they tend to have an abundance of curved roads. If it were an old American city, it would have to be a grid. Grids were used as the basic city plan for most areas up until the 20th century, when cars allowed for sprawl.
  7. If the game were a CPU hog then I would have low fps, because my CPU is not a cutting edge device. It contains only a single core and runs below 3GHz(the common threshold for faster CPUs). However, I noticed that when I doubled the memory, the small lag that existed before vanished. From my point of view, these are the performance determining components in order of importance: 1.RAM 2.GFX card(particularly GFX memory) 3.CPU
  8. Kanopolis

Yeah, I've got a huge North/South rail line running all the way from downtown to the area seen above. The City of Kanopolis has slated to have it extended to the new seaport as well as add a route to the western suburbs. The Downtown route will be seen in the next update.
  9. AMA Building

Ok I downloaded the AMA Building from the STEX. However, when one grew in my city, portions of the building were overhanging into the Avenue and street on both sides of the lot. Is this supposed to happen or is it a bug?
  10. US Debt

Heres my suggestion to fix the debt: The government should stop funding the Democrats' welfare state and stop the mindless spending. As for those who believe in Bush's doomsday army: Bush is not trying to rule the world. If he was Earth would have been renamed "Planet America" by now. The USA has enough power to crush nearly every country in the world quite easily, except for China, which would be the only fair fight. Back to the debt. Why are people voting for the Dems in full knowledge that they will implement a democratic socialist economy which will send debt probably into hundreds of trillions of dollars.
  11. Why does everyone complain about lag so much. My machine has:2GHz Pentium D, 2GB RAM, 256MB ATI Radeon, but I can run a large city filled with skyscrapers from end to end on max graphics settings with absolutely no lag. I think it depends mainly on memory and GFX card. All the dual core people are complaining, and I, with my humble single core have flawless performance.

  13. Kanopolis

Kanopolis has arrived! The first two pics of this ever-expanding city, more to come. This shows a major road running through the city's prime manufacturing center, located south of the city center and just west of Kanopolis's industrial port. A couple of major automotive and textile producers set up just north of the port expressway, which is an extension of the Kanopolis Beltway (coming next update) Next post: You will see shots of Kanopolis's downtown and civic district A look at some suburbs and a planned townhouse development in western Kanopolis I-69 and I-98 (Btw, when I said I wasn't going to have show-stopping pics right away, that did not in any way imply that there would be no pictures as you can well see. If I waited for show stoppers, this CJ wouldn't be able to launch until Christmas because I am playing by the rules, no cheats, just NAM)
  14. a new concept of roadways

mdawgmike: I remember seeing those driver made ramps. However, many of them are tire tracks caused by 10 hummers driving off the highway during the Rita evac because of the gridlock on the freeway. Tons of people were forcing their way onto the feeder, creating the driver made ramps.
  15. A very long walk

That upgrade bug never happens with my cities; in fact, my sims going over the connection are now for some reason addicted to the bus (more buses than cars on that avenue), but still refuse to walk more than a couple tiles. I'm pretty sure its that radical NAM setting you're using that causes this.
  16. When I first got this game, my cities hit the red 5 minutes into the game. Nowadays, my cities typically have several thousands of surplus each month and the treasury is soaring into the millions.
  17. Making Simcity 4 More accessible

Difficulty should have been truly scalable, making the differences between easy and hard truly noticeable. All they did was give you more money, which doesn't help if you don't know how to play. The base game should have had a more comprehensive mayor tutorial, and large starter cities(like Metropolis/Europolis from SC3K). Region play was badly implemented. It KILLED many of my earliest cities. I also agree with baertooth that you should be allowed to annex neighboring tiles when you want to expand, and only start a new city when the intention is to create a fully independent city. Above all, airports and seaports should serve a whole region once the cities are connected to the city containing the airport/seaport.
  18. Tampa, Florida

Answer to question 1: YES Answer to question 2: The only way to do this is by using the cheat "you don't deserve it" to unlock all rewards. Otherwise it is impossible. Besides that, having the space center in a residential area isn't unrealistic, after all, JSC in real life is in Clear Lake City, an area of Houston which is primarily residential, contains UHCL, and has the center's labs (which I guess would correspond to SC4's ARC) As for your city. Put taxes for I-D and I-M up to 20 in the res city, and put taxes for I-HT to 20 in the industrial city. That way you can push all the hightech jobs into the residential city, which is actually the best place to build them (I-HT makes no pollution).
  19. The Metroplex

Looks good so far, but you might want to try putting in skyscrapers last, as it's kind of weird to see a skyscraper built in the middle of nowhere.
  20. Flatlined!!

As the moderator said, your city is hitting demand caps. Make sure you have placed all available rewards. To relieve resident caps, build things such as parks, schools, healthcare, and industry/commerce. To relieve commercial caps, build an airport, lay neighbor connections with roads (this includes highways), and bump up traffic.
  21. City ONLY demands FARMS!!!??

I have had this same problem in small cities. Eventually your city will out grow farms, here's a list of things you can do to kill demand: -Increase traffic -Increase pollution -Increase amenities -20% agriculture tax rate -Build more large roads
  22. abandonment-can't figure out what causes it!

If it is in demand, zone commercial near the suburb. That avenue is likely to be jammed at this point, so you may want to try constructing a highway route to the industrial city. Highways allow sims to travel on long commutes with few traffic jams
  23. Historical Landmarks

It does nothing except prevent the building from being redeveloped. Otherwise, the building will be rebuilt into something else if the conditions of its zone and demand are correct.
  24. Show Us Your Suburbs

Try zoning smaller lots. If you zone 1x2, space the lots out.
  25. Dark Airport.

Ignore the darkening. It merely means that the airport is approaching capacity. When that happens, the transportation advisor will tell you to upgrade it. Click 'yes' to upgrade.
