ardecila It's an overhanging lot that is based on the 'slanted' part. On the piece to the bottom of the highway, there is a piece that has grass on top and the stone wall is slanted. To the left about 4 tiles is the over hanging lot that acts as a foundation wall. So it's not on the highway, but beside the highway. Also, buddybud, could you make a piece like that, but instead of slanted it's flat and has a parking lot on top? It would fit in with the flat walled look you have going, and would look good in a commercial or residential (park and ride) enviroment. But then again maybe you have already thought of that, I only read this last page. I'm lazzzzzy.

Why thank you, everyone. It was good to see (double digit!) replies to my thread when I got back from work. Glad to see it hasn't found it's way into obscurity yet. We'll give it a week. That being said, actually, I must let you all readers know this: Only 11 replies with 101 views!?! Whatisthisnonsense!Whydon'tyouallfreakinglurkerspostmoresothatmythreaddoesn'tgobackintothesecondorthirdpageandthennoonecanseen'tget Ok, now that I got that out of my system, I'll never speak of that again. Unless it's me commenting on how many replies and or views I have as a whole, not in relation to each other. (Actually, I don't know what the 'proper' reply to view ratio is, I'm at about 10% which sounds pretty good. Not tooting my own horn or anything.) (I just checked the reply to view ratio on other journals, and 10% seems about right. So yes! I'm average!) But, in all seriousness, I don't care about replies and such. Sure, it makes it easier on 56kers because it pushes my posts further apart and makes the likely hood that posts with pictures will be on different pages. And it does make me feel good to see multiple comments after my posts.... But, again, replies are not that important. Because, my name is brtim2 (ever notice how not many people capatilize the first letter of their handle?) and I am a lurker. Seriously, I am. Sure, I have over 600 posts, but I am a CJ lurker. I like looking at all the pretty pictures and the bright colors. If you can find a way to get shiny metal objects in your posts, then heck, I'll be there all day. Why I enjoy the pictures, I rarely comment. And that's not saying the CJ's are bad, it's just that I like to toil and view in the dark. But rest assured, I remember what I like and always return, so your work is not wasted. So, to follow up, there are some people that like to post, just like there are people that don't want to post, for whatever reason. Both are appreciated and welcomed in their own special way. I don't want anyone to feel threatened into posting here, just like I don't want anyone to think they can't post here (at least not yet). So if you are visiting to see the pictures, great, enjoy them. If you have a question, do not hesitate to post, I'll try and answer it quickly (and correctly). If you just want to let me know how I'm doing, good or bad or indifferent, that's fine too. The only way one grows is by listening to other's advise (it can also lead to sticky situations, but that's not relevant here). And if you want to post an advertisement here, well then I'm gonna have to get you banned. It's that simple. And right now is where I would make with the personal replies, if I was going to do that sort of thing. You see, szarkoz, Battlecat, sloppet, SC4Noobie, jacqulina, mattb325, cityhawk, andymcnab666, GMT, collgab, and GaBoR are all waiting for me to reply to their message, you know, personally. They were kind enough to be the first to reply to the thread, therefore they should rewarded, right? Well, yes. And no. They were rewarded with their name in bold up there. But that isn't to mean I won't reply. I just won't do it publicly. You see, there's something about a 'Personal Reply' in public form. If it's a personal reply, it should be between the two, not for everyone to see. That's just me. Almost everyone else is Publicly Replying to A Direct Message. Sure, it's a bit longer, but more accurate. Also, I read a boring topic the other day. About the mechanics of a City Journal. One of the posts was readers do not care about what I have to say. They try and block out the messages that have been left by others and anything other than pictures by the author. Anything more and it clutters up their viewing experience. And I happen to agree. I know, it doesn't make any sense because of the abundance of words here and the lack of pictures thus far, but they were right. That's how I read a City Journal. Page Down until I see pictures. Stop. View. Next page. Repeat. So as to make this easier on lurkers I will respond to messages via PM. It might be more work, but I assure you it will keep the flow of the Journal that much better. (At least that is what I hope.) So, with that I must start with the sending of messages. I'm sorry there was not more pictures to show you, but there will be more coming. And I'd leave you with a teaser shot, but I don't have a black box handy. Oh, wait! A white box works just as well! Enjoy the teaser! (Holy crap that's a lot of writing. And what did I say? Absolutely nothing of importance.) (Edit: How come my font isn't uniform! This bugs me! Gah! Need uniformity.) (If this doesn't work I quit. But now the font is too big. I'm picky, I know.)

Just some things I've been working on with CD's new terrains... A small Railroad Cut. I think this looks much better with a different fence. Also a Cycledogg creation. And a small Railroad Bridge amongst Cycledogg's terrain and water and Jeronij's street mod. I'm having way too much fun with these new mods.

Ok, I just have a quick question, what does the DELTREE.EXE file do? It deletes files, but from where? How does it know what files it can delete and which ones to leave? I'm afraid to touch anything as I like what's on my harddrive. I took the one that was included in the file from the MODs section, so how does that one know what to delete? Really, I'm confused about what the heck it does. I did all the things I could set up, but I'm worried that there was a DELTREE setup that I may have missed to make sure it picks the right folders to clear. I did the export of the LODs and was gonna go ahead and try the rest of it, but I'm just triple-checking myself before I go ahead with it to make sure I don't do anything retarded and the like. I'm sure if I were to follow the instructions ahead, I could figure it out, but just to make sure...

Hopefully, I find a catch.quote> I hope you can too. Cause I have many a projects that could use a spruce up. Well, actually a finish, but that's besides the point, but perhaps if I can get them in 3ds than I can do more with them and hopefully complete them. Also, Jason, I think you should do the department store, it looks very dominating. And that's always the best when you're trying to have people give you your money.

Have you found a way to get gmax files into 3dsmax? Because I've tried everything and nothing is worked. I'm like you and have a ton of things just floating around that could easily be finished if I, you know, felt like not being a lazy bum. But I want to be able to use 3dsmax but I can't get it to import in from a .gmax file. If you or anyone else has any ideas on what to do, please help. Things would be great.

Well after speaking to Yogiya, I have picked up on my old building. I told him that I am reliably unreliable when it comes to BAT projects, but I offered him any work I may in fact come up with. I am starting to rework my Pink Corner building with a different roof texture. I want my original building to stand out, so only that one will have a roof top deck. All the others will have a very plain looking roof with some roof junk. Also, I am reworking the ivy. Right now it looks like crap. The one I sent to Barbyw has the ivy at 55000+ polys and was a pain to work around. (Never, ever, ever try and model every leaf. It's stupid.) The new one has about 2000+ polys but looks real fake. However, I did see this awhile back and just drug it up. It's by Vil. And it's amazing. When I get back from work I'm gonna try his method. We shall see what I come up with. Also, as I told Yogiya in a pm, I'm gonna work on some hanging baskets for the balconies. What's a little New Orleans without hanging baskets? But it's time for work and I'm gonna work on it when I get back. The roof texture is just a filler as it was from another building, but it's gonna be the same look with some more junk on top. And then I'm gonna have to go back and rework most of the building. I've learned a lot in the past year since I've done this building and it looks real plain and bare. So, criticisms are very likely, and shall be taken with a grain of salt.

True, I never thought about each prop, but they shouldn't be too bad. There was a discussion in Kwak's thread about this. The smallest LOD size is what, 12 poly's? So even 100 props don't add that much as long as the LODs are boxes. But like it was said before, as long as they are simple and don't include curves, the LODs should be fine.

I like the light stand, however before judging it too much, can we see a quick preview in game? That way it can be judged how it fits in with the rest of the surrondings and if it looks a little out of place because of the size and what-have-you. I'm thinking the lights are out of proportion with the rest of the stands, but that's just my initial reaction. Also, you can place invisible circle splines where the glass on the lights would be and give them a nightlight modifier so they light up at night. That way it looks more realistic.

The Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet) BAT Preview
brtim2 replied to spincrus's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
Just remember to scale the domes up a bit as the camera angle in SC4 makes the domes look squished and ugly. Depending on how you want the dome to look you only need to scale it up to 125% or you can go all the way to 167%. Keep it up. -
SC4Tool - Reference and Visual Editor for BATs and Lots
brtim2 replied to Andreas Roth's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
I have a question, has anyone else had a problem with textures overriding each other? I had 6 textures I made at once, each one with new ids, and they all looked the same. I have a group of textures assigned to me and I did as Barby told me to. It started fine for me as the first couple work as planned, but the most recent ones do not. TE as eye candy again, I think that means just to have the road enter the lot but does not work as a station of any sort. Just so the road visually enters into the lot instead of deadending at the lot. I think. -
...And then the team can whither and die in a few months, but you still have a team and all the perks that do with it. And, in order to make this from a discussion thread to a 'legitimate' project, I would like to offer this: I have asked the BSC to take a look at it and make it into a reward, however, I had thoughts of making a building family with a few variations and placing it on a CS and Res lot. Not particulary modeled on any one building, but still in the Spanish NO style. Also, technically this is not a building request. No where did he request a building. He is actually requesting a city to be rebuilt. So please, place all Building Request instructions in Building Request Threads, you know, or else they start to lose meaning.

So...has anyone else gotten the opportunity to go down and help out? Any stories...? I will tell you guys some sometime...very tired right now...quote> Well I had the opportunity to go down there. I stayed at the SeaBee base in Gulfport and worked out of the Pass Road Baptist Church in Biloxi, although I was able to drive from Waveland all the way past Kessler AFB during most of my time there. I was there for weeks with the Red Cross and helped to serve food to those who were living in the shells of their houses and in tents in their lawns. And oh dear person who thought that Canada would have this cleaned up in two months. Ha. I laugh and scoff at your general direction. In fact, if you were right in front of me, I would laugh in your face for a good 47 seconds at what you said. Because, believe me, you are wrong. In fact, you are so far from right you're left. And if I am not mistaken, doesn't the local government control the evacuation plans? Don't they determine when to leave and what to do? Seems like there was a failure at the local and state level as Katrina approached, not the Federal level. But then again the south is famous for having the most corrupt politicians, so there's nothing new about that. And my stories will have to wait. I just remembered why I never venture into the off-topic sections. Some people can be completely ridiculie.

Originally posted by: Jasoncw But right now, other than the building's design, I have some special plans for this building: 1. Custom storefront prop family specificly for this building. 2. Custom roof prop family specificly for this building. Both are made to look as if they were rendered with the building. The roofs will have different arrangments of roof junk, and skylights. The skylights will be big and you'll be able to see the insides of the mall. The different roofs will have different mall insides shown through the skylights. This will all result in a lot of variety for a single building. I hope for this to turn out really well.quote> I kinda sorta did this, although not on such a large a scale. I had a plan to make a Baltimore Rowhouse set, with the side and back walls the building and different roofs via a prop family and different faces via a prop family. The oppurtunity to make limitless variations were there. And the best part was, when the oppurtunity struck I could add to each prop family when I felt like it. I also thought it was props overhanging the lot that had the trouble lighting up, although I never did any lights on my rowhouses because I'm no good at it. But I have had every project I did be a prop, and they lit up fine. Any way, just letting you know, if the LODs are done correctly on each piece, you can have a seamless piece. Mine were form fitting, but they probably didn't have to be. In fact I never thought about LOD polygons adding to more resources being used up in game until Andreas Roth brought it to Jeronij's attention. That kinda derailed my project. But I wish to not derail yours, I have always been a fan of your work. Here's the picture I was talking about. Each one of the rowhouses uses one of four props for the front and one of four props for the roof.

So I watched the game, rather nice by the way (minus the QB lapses). I had no qualms about the pass interference against Seattle in the first quarter, but the Rothliesberger touchdown was a little iffy. I was rooting for the Steelers, so glad to see they won. Yet apparently it's blasphemy to root for the Steelers as a Raven's fan. I don't see the big deal, it's not like i'm rooting against the Ravens or anything of the sort. So I rooted for them and it was all good. Someone needs to work the 2-minute drill with the Seahawks. Same thing happened to the J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, JETS! a couple years back and now they have a full time clock watcher. Date: 2/5/2006 10:07:46 PM Author: SkiGeek Who picked the color for the Seahawks

Only because you brought it up, I shall have to say it. My comments about the Inner Harbor were a joke. I tried to throw in hyperbole, but apparently it still didn't weigh it down enough to keep from going over your head. I only said what I said because it was an attempt to make what Pistolvaniasfinest610 sound completely ridiculus. You can't base a city on a TV show or a movie. In fact I tried to do that with Spiderman 2 and I kept looking for the El-Train in NYC. Never saw it. I want to make it clear I am not a 'Baltimore-hater.' I love Baltimore, if I had the money I would buy a rowhouse shell on the outskirts of Fed Hill/Little Italy/Fells Point/Pigtown and remodel the inside and live there. I may be from the country (read: Carroll County) but I would love to live in the midst of a revitalized neighborhood. And to those that say Baltimore is bad one block from the Harbor, c'mon, that's a joke. Dude, you're only safe if your in sight of the water. Lose the water and you better watch your back. I've walked north of Mt. Vernon square and nothing happened to me. I've driven through West Baltimore (only place in Baltimore worse than that is East Baltimore) at midnight and nothing happened to me. (And by drive I mean I criss-crossed through the rowhouse lined streets, not drove through it on 40.) It wasn't the smartest thing to do, but I did it anyway. Saw a lot of characters. And c'mon jspero you live nearby, you shouldn't kick a slogan they don't use anymore. That was an earlier time. Now it's Believe (or Bleed, depending on who you ask). And to Rushman, you certainly got the wall to wall character of the city in there. That's the only problem I have with this game though, there are no low-wealth single family rowhouses. The same building in Chicago that would hold two families holds one family in Baltimore. So in order to get the look of Baltimore I've always had to raise the wealth to Medium, even though it's not the demographics of Baltimore. And there is a monorail in the planning stages for the Baltimore area. They would certainly be working on it now if we had gotten the 2012 games.

Holy crap people. Lots of misconceptions going around. Baltimore City is about 600,000 people with the metro area (seperate from D.C's although they are intertwined) at something close to 6 million people. I think. And yes, Baltimore is just like the city they show on The Wire and on Homicide. All of Baltimore is like that, do not let anything else full you. Full of drugs and heroin and crack babies. There are no good parts. Nothing. Do not let those lies about the Inner Harbor full you. It isn't what it is all cracked up to be. And Baltimore is not a coastal city. It is on the water, but it is based around the Patapsco River on the Chesapeake Bay, a good three hours from the coast. In fact it loses some port business because it is not a Norfolk or New York right close to the ocean. And I think it is good someone else on these boards likes the Baltimore (and supposedly Philly) style of blocks upon blocks of rowhouses. I was once told on here that I should stop the monotonous look of rowhouses, even though that is what I grew up around and have admired. So I hope that is what your city looks like, because that is what I am looking for in a Baltimore inspired city.

Can we see what your LODs look like? You're going to need a perfect fit for the stair section (at least the parts that could be underground) and a box over the temple. If you take the stairs together, clone them and attach the clones together and then attach that to a box encompassing the temple you will come up with a very good LOD for the temple. And if you wanted to do it another way, perhaps taking a different approach could help you with your empty lot problem. If you make the bottom of the stairs at z=0 and have everything above that you can create the lot with the stairs and have the temple hanging off the lot. That way (with the LOD provided above) you can place lots of people on the stairs walking towards the temple. Good luck on your exams and I can't wait for the model to be released.

I believe it has something to do with the Anti-Dilapidation mod. Do you have this installed?

Why do Calatrava's buildings all look like nose-diving birds? And your design looks rather excellent compared to the original. I know you said you have limited time to complete it so it might not be exact, but dang is that good. And just out of curiosity, what does the original look like in regards to night-lights? And do you plan on following those guidelines or going your own way?

Ok Dev. Here it is. The joke is on ... here

The Working Poor: Invisible in America by David K. Shipler. I would have to say this is probably the only book I was required to read for college that I actually read all the way through. If I ever became active in politics, this book would be my manifesto. This, however, is not a historical book, nor is it a political book, but it would still be the foundation of my platform.
