As most of our readers are aware, over the past 10 years two local railroads have been expanding steadily westward, trying to win the Go West competition. This weeks issue is dedicated to coverage of Gormerly Regional Railroad (GRR) and their push along the south shore. In a desire to establish a presence on the western shore and solidify its claim to the region, 12 years ago today the National Government kicked off its Go West challenge. Railroads would bid on rights to build a route to the western shore. The highest bidder would be given the right of way along the north side of the river, while the second highest bid would be given right of way to the more challenging south side. The first company to have a rail link from Gormerly Hill to the western shore will be awarded exclusive rights to build and operate a seaport there, along with generous land grants in the area. This issue covers Gormerly Regional Railroad’s progress along the demanding south side The railhead started in Gormerly Hill, the main city the TRRD. GRR built southwest into Fluence, on the rougher Southwest side of the TRRD (Tile 14),. As shown below, GRR established a freight yard near the industrial area and bridged River #2 a little ways out from the main town. The increased industrial activity brought a flood of new residents and tax dollars (and some dirty water). This led to a beautiful subdivision and seaside park placed along River #3. Such moves have been strongly increasing the Mayor’s local popularity, particularly in the higher wealth residences near the park. GRR continued west along the flats and made its first tunnel through the hills on the way to Ladner (Tile 16). Speaking of beautiful parks, Ladner has a lovely stream running through the main residential area, connecting two small ponds. While nowhere near the railroad, this shot was too beautiful to pass up. While having to deal with a bridge in Fluence, and a tunnel just west of there, those tasks were a breeze compared to the challenge that lay for GRR’s engineering department when moving through Ladner. The challenge for railroading near Ladner is the track needs to cross a steeply banked river while dealing with fairly steep and significant hills on both sides of the river. Compounding the issue is t

Well done dbranch, your region is filling up quite a bit. The water pollution picture was very well done, and the covered bridge looks great!

The Pianist: I love the Jinshan Gorge Bridge - looks lovely going over that forest. That other bridge nearby has a pretty steep onramp though! The viaduct is very well done too. Where did that come from? BarbyW: Already named all your regions, impressive! I'll jump on the bandwagon and say how much I like the gondola and suspension bridge. Mightygoose: I love your presentation - not only does it get more of your region across, but it looks really good. that is one scary looking river - I would not want to go swimming in it! I also how you have used the tress to give the farms nice smooth curves, it looks very sharp. yunxiang: The slanted tree farm is great! Will there be any slanted houses built from that lumber? And thanks for the tip on the SAM - I love Trocla's streets, but definitely wanted some more control. This looks like it will do the job nicely.

Hope it's not too late to join the party! THREE RIVERS WEEKLY Your ONLY source for news in the TRRD Garbage Piles Leaving Gormerly Hill Gormerly Hil: After letting the garbage pile up in town for over 20 years, something is finally being done. It is now being burned in a beautiful new facility in the hills to the Northeast, North of River #1. City staff say the perma-haze appearing around town the same time it started is due to natural causes, and purely coincidental. They also estimate there are still more than 10,000 tonnes of trash piled in yards and streets. Farmer Joe Builds New Wall Confusion, isolation ensue. Peace River: Utilizing beautiful white stones, Farmer Joe fenced off his farm with a new wall. Since installing the wall, Joe reports crop theft is down 22%. Despite leaving a path, locals are confused about what to do. Citizen Jeremy Copper had been stuck at the wall 3 days trying to get home when we spoke to him. When asked when he planned on leaving he replied "I don't know how to go any other way, so I guess I'm just gonna wait for this wall to move" DUTCH INVADING OUR CITY Gormerly Hill: Neighbours were perplexed by the sudden construction of tall, colourfull houses on Witsenstraat, and shouts of DOEL!!!!!! from the nearby soccer pitch. After a brief period of shock, residents became attracted to the houses, and started building their own all across town. Pets complaining about dirty feet Gormerly Hill: After construction of the local Petco, local pets quickly started complaining about getting their feet dirty from the dirt road the store is located on. They are outraged that a street in the central business district is not paved, and bitter about the extra time they have to speed preening and grooming. Cats have been the most vocal, with the orgainzer of the protest group Felines Against Roads of dirT quoted as saying "MEOW, Hiss hiss scratch MRRRWOW." A translator was not available at the time of press. New Avenue Amazes Faced with growing complaints from commuters living near River 1, the local road was upgraded to an avenue. Despite wanting a better road, no one wanted to give p their homes to make way for the new road. Approximately 20 houses were bulldozed over their owners' objections. It is not known if the owners were in the houses at the time.
