Looking for advice regarding creation of custom city/region
Lord Volker replied to stevenoon's topic in Mapping Community Room
Photoshop? Thats all i can really say here. -
Alright, i've been into making custom maps for my own regions for some time now. I've already installed a 20 x 33 region and after a while of playing it i learned a few things about city planning and i want to start over. I like the large region size but the problem is the size of the region itself. I dont have a problem rendering the region or anything, it does take some time but that doesnt bother me. I've noticed that the when i move over to the eastern most tiles the screen locks for some time and the only way that i remember how to fix the problem is to restart the game. I just wont build on those tiles. Anyways what i would like to know is what is the max region size, if there is one that is. I would like to make a region thats about 30 tall by 50 long or something around that. Also, i've seen some regions with a few of the tiles missing, when i make the config what color do i use to make some city tiles dissapear. I would like cut off the tiles that i cant access and wouldnt that make it easier on my computer when i start the game up.

If possible, maybe an option for major reduction of commute time. If theres already one out there please PM me as i have no idea how to really find it. But heres my problem, i've noticed that the commute time is just off. Someone in my city who lives a block away from work, around a couple hundred feet or so has a commute time of long. I can walk that distance in less than 5 mins. Someone who lives on one end of the city has to drive to the other side to get to work, that person should have a medium commute time not a long time. If anyone has a solution to my problem please tell me how to fix it and not just build a monorail ect....

Hey just checking up on this. I'm still working on building the rest of the cities but pretty soon i'd like to start on San Loma. I understand its summer and your probably busy, i'm the same way. I would like it by september though, a long ways off, enough time.

Here ya go, i hope this image should be good enough for ya. Here you can see the administration, hangers and barracks. You wont be able to fit every building in nor do you have to. Just get the general things down. I dont have the airport tiles and if you can make the lots without the tiles go ahead, just make it look good. But if you want me to i can download the tiles.

Hi, i'm back and i hope you can do this. Name: Cavallia Airforce Base Type: Rewards, no monthly price. Alright, this may seem like alot, but in my opinion its easier than the other one. Blue is the administration area, 20 long by 10 tall. Buildings and stuff, research ect. Little bit of pavement in the lower middle area leading to the hangers. Green is the barracks, 10 long by 12 tall. Rows of barracks towards the east and a few in the west. Red is the hangers and runways. Yes, runways. The square in the middle is the hangers, 14 long by 10 tall. The hangers are in the middle. The main runway running north and south is 6 long, and 30 tall. If this is too tall you can shrink it to 20. The second runway is split into two parts, the west portion is 8 long by 6 tall and the east portion is 14 long and 6 tall. Where they meet in the middle you can surely make the two runways intersect each other. The hangers should fit perfectly in the north east corner with the barracks lining up perfectly with the hangers and runway. The black lines show where the seperation between each lot is. On both edges of both runways theres grass, just to blend in with the unzoned land. The white areas you dont have to make, i'm just going to keep that unzoned. Think of this as a big puzzle piece. Hope Deutschland was awsome, i wish i could've gone on my class trip this year.

[2009] Lot Editor and Plug-in Manager - Forum Archive
Lord Volker replied to tvguy's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
Lot Editor trouble Well, i'm pretty sure that this is the right place to post this but i'm having problems with the lot editor. I've looked around and i cant find anything that really helps. The site is running a little slow for me and I'm still not completely familiar with this site and where everything is as well as these type of programs where one thing can make a big difference. To get to my point, i'm having problems with the lot editor. I've already went through the lot editor beginners tutorial and i've got it down pretty good. I know where everything is ect. Well, i'm trying to make a lot for a city of mine and in the future i'll be doing the same thing for my city. I'm trying to make a large airforce base for a city of mine and in the future i'm going to make another one. I open the lot editor and i pick the army base, i delete all the props and textures. Then i put a new base texture all over, the lot is 43x33. Yes i know its quite large but it'll be more realistic that way instead of that small army base. I've also tried moving all the props around but the textures i deleted becuase i want something different. I save the lot (save as) and then when i come back to work on it i see that about 20 base textures are missing throughout the lot. The reason why i had to come back was because i was having problems making the diagonal runway. I think that the problem may be in the overall size of the lot but the max is 64x64 i belive. But more likely the problem is in the rewards, i used the army base which is an award and that may be why its not saving properly. I want to use the army base because it acts like an army base instead of a park like with what i did with the tutorial. Heres what i'm trying to make. Its from the game Ace Combat 6. Blue is the administration area, green the barracks and red the runway and the hangers ect. If all else fails could someone please make this for me. I would like it to act like an airforce base with drivable jets and tanks.- 172 Replies

Oh my! Thank you so much! In my opinion (not dissing your fences here) these are a little more appealing to the eye. This will do wonders for asthetic reasons and as a border between two Emmeria and Estovakia. I'll probably post a CJ later on once i get things going and if i can actually get up and get out of the city and start making a web of cities. I can say this. I fail at BAT, my simple house looked like it was drawn by a 6 year old.

Alright, i've already tried to work with the BAT a little, i fail. So i plunged further into the Lot Editor a little. I found the proper fences, i've already tried placing the lots but when i tried placing them on a mountain or a hill, the base texture and/or overlay texture is sloped but the fence is still straight. How would i fix that? Better yet, could someone make them for me and save me from this already stressfull day?

Alright, i already have the lot editor, i saw something about needing lot editor to fix this problem but the problem is i cant find it. Theres just so much stuff in the window and after some searching and picking random lots to edit i figured that they wont be in that list. I found a segment of the list where my plugins are but i couldnt find the DAT file for the lot. In fact, i havent seen any of my DAT files in the lot editor window. Would it appear under a specific name?

Calling all Minnesotans
Lord Volker replied to Hagar Topeka 1's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I've got the same opinion. As a native to Minnesota i can also say that i would like to see the IDS Tower, WFC and 225 South Six here in the BAT. Not only are all 3 of them skyscrapers that'll look pretty cool in any city but they're also pretty cool looking overall. IDS with its blue windows, WFC with its gold appearence and 225 South Six's with what i call its "Bowl Top". I live in Richfield, just south of minneapolis and if i were up a few stories above ground i would be able to look out of the window at the city. Also during my frequent trips up north around the Mille Lacs area, when i'm comming home i have an option here, i can continue driving which btw i really hate those long drives and plus i'm on 35W here, or i can peer out at the city lights and see all 3 of the buildings. Of course i take the driving over looking at the city but i do get the chance to grab a peek once in a while along the drive. Someone, PLEASE make all 3 of those buildings plopable in our cities. -
I would also like to see the IDS Tower, Wells Fargo Center and 225 South Six.

Well i've already looked around this site and i still cant find any help. So i guess i'm gonna start again here. So i downloaded the PEG Security Fencing Kit, saved it to my documents, extracted the files to my plugins folder. I went into the plugins folder to see if it worked this time, i've been working on this problem for about an hour now. The folder says PEGPROD, in there its MODS, Security Fencing and finally the DAT file itself. I cut out the JPEG and the instructions and they're back in my documents just in case that was causing the problem. I restarted the game for the fourth or so time and i couldnt find the fences. Sould they be propable? I've also tried building an airport, police building ect and i didnt see any fences just in case thats how they would show up. I've also tried to put the actual DAT file in the plugins folder instead of going through the folders, that didnt work. I also looked around this site for dependency packages. I'm pretty sure that i need another file for this to work but the problem is that i dont know what file i need. Do i need another PEG mod file or do i need something else. I really like these fences, they're perfect for the border between Estovakia and Emmeria, two fictional countries in the Ace Combat 6 game. They're not really the best of neighbors so the fence would be perfect for the border and other installations like the airport, military base ect.....

Seems kinda like a dangerous spot for an airport dont ya think. And ya, it almost looks like manhatten doesnt it. Heres a link to the earth in the Ace Combat games. My large region is Anea, i had to scale everything down, way down to have it fit within my computers limitations. http://acecombat.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Nations

So does anyone know about a brush that i can use in photoshop to build my mountains. I've already tried quite a few styles in the dodging tool. They have the same type of styles used for the pencil and paint brush ect... I've tried what looks like a hair or an eyelash and the 3 pointed one. I've also tried that multi looking star that if you use it enough it'll create a pretty tall volcano. Thats the best i can realy do. I raised the terrain up a little to creat large mountains but they're sloped pretty good and nothing similar to the mountain tool in the game. Does anyone know any other effect that i can use in Photoshop (7 to be correct) to make realistic mountains. I dont really want to go into the game itself and make the mountains, that'll take some time. Even if i tried that the mountains wouldnt fuse properly and when i turn off the city borders in the region shot i can see the areas where the mountains dont fit properly. Plus i would like to learn more about photoshop and thats all i've really used, in fact thats what i want to use to make my region. I've tried terreformer but the region is just too big, 16x33 large city tiles to be exact. Would i be able to go into the game, make a single mountain, print screen. Go into photoshop and cut out the mountain area, maybe grayscale it and somehow make a brush with that pattern? EDIT I've already tried to make a brush using the in game mountain but it didnt show up quite how i wanted it. I guess i could tinker around with that brush effect and get it the way i want.
