  1. Best And Worst

Best: Easy and intelligent. Worst: No machine code compiler. Administrators (think before you speak! )
  2. Commute times count as "No Job", I believe. The buildings will die because of commute times. I'm trying to find a solution for said problem, myself.
  3. Simtropolis 1000

Please, for the love of the gods, please, host the .rar files on another site. The host is horribly slow and restricting for us users...

  5. I need a region.

I need an empty region, forum, one with no people in it, but a certain land shape. You see, it's like this: ++++++++++++ ++++++++++++ <-- low hills ++++++++++++ ++++++++++++ ++++ ++++ <-- semicircle of flat land ++ ++ '''''''''''' <-- ocean '''''''''''' I'm looking for something similar in style to that. Flat land where a big city would be, and then hilly land behind it where I could build up little towns etc. Does anyone have something like this? Region city files prefered, though I could render it myself if SimCity will let me this time >.> Cheers, --Troy
  6. "God moderation" on forums

God moderation is a very extreme thing and can be potentially (and almost always) extremely dangerous to a forum.. For those who don't know, godmod is an almost martial law declaration where all members, even the regulars, are subject to post approval by a moderator unless they are part of the special exemption group. Another community I visit, OSDev.org, had godmod unexpectedly established by one or two moderators for about a day or two. Sadly I had no idea this was happening, as I was still in my SC4 hardcore streak. This caused a massive uproar and we could have (theoretically) lost multiple regulars. And all this because the mods are getting tired of the regular "my x is broken, fix it plzzzz" and "how to do y??????????//" ***** posts. Has anyone here ever encountered it? Has anyone had a community destabilize because of it? Cheers, Troy
  7. Hi all, I have a pair of fresh cities, one with 70,000 people on the water with no ports (yet) and one with 20,000 people on a different body of water with both a seaport and a ferry terminal. The smaller one also has a wave of medium density industrial up the coast, which generates a large amount of water pollution. So much, in fact, that one of the inlets is black sludge. How do I remove the effects of water pollution yet still keeping the industries and the population that's formed becuase of them? Thanks, --Troy
  8. Nolomba

Welcome to the great wide lands of Nolomba! This is the first attempt at a city journal, so be kind/rough/apathetic! Oh, and it's vanilla SC4. About the Map: Nolomba was created from a terrain map I found on the interwebs and modified a bit after importing it into SC4 Deluxe. I was pleased with the default config.bmp that SC4 generated, since the terrain map didn't come with one. About the Design: Nolomba isn't meant to be overly realistic or too Sim-ish. It's sort of the delicate balance between compact "MUST....USE....ALL....SPACE!!!!" design and "omg, it's like I've visited this place before!" It's not going to be a crazily populated place either. The Stats: Residential Population: 350,907 Commercial Population: 76,414 Industrial Population: 97,565 The Region: And now, the moment you've been waiting for.... Nolomba!!! Yeah, it's kind of hard to see the region. I quickly took a shot in Region Census and then played with the background in Paint, hehehe... UPDATE: Click on the map to see the full-size version in a new tab/window (warning: 3 MB .PNG file!) The Major Cities: City One: City One is the capital city of Nolomba. Its name derives from the fact it is the first major city of Nolomba. City One has, as of August 18, 2009, a total of over 180,000 residents. The downtown living district (the part sticking out of the large jut-out, west of the large green rectangle) is one of the most populated areas of the city in such a small space on the waterfront with over 40,000 residents there. The main freeway, F1, starts at the north from Port Jacques, goes south through Old Town, through the south of the aptly-named "Dirty District" via a tunnel, comes out in a commercial district, continues south, and turns west towards Wilburg (an upper-class waterfront district) and an area east of Wilburg. The F1 will continue west of Wilburg to the next city over. F1 cloverleafs near Wilburg, going south on the F2 though another major industrial district to the unincorperated area south of City One. City One is complete. I managed to top it off at 181,361 residents with 50,862 commercial population and 44,585 industrial population. Oh, and those cool pillars along the highways are the Washington monument edited to cost 1 simoleon and no monthly cost. And the thing on the island across from downtown is the Nolomba Government Building, a custom landmark. City Two: Continuing in the naming scheme of City One, this little chunk of Nolomba isn't anything too special, just another hundred thousand residents. Port Jacques: A smaller town of about 30,000, Port Jacques holds a major seaport along Lake Sesarin, as well as the beginning of the freeway, F1, and the midpoint of the recently-started F3. This city is partially a large landfill and recycling center, handling the trash of City One and most likely any smaller neighbouring cities. Johnsonville: One of the smallest towns in Nolomba, this little vacation spot is a quiet farm town on the isthmus whose front end sticks into City One. Johnsonville has a population of a little over five thousand and an airstrip on the island north of the farmlands. Ashshine: Split into the north and south halves using two small tiles, South Ashshine is solely a residential/commercial town while North Ashshine is completely industrial. Ashshine lies to the east of Port Jaqcues and is reachable via the F3 highway. --Troy
  9. Nolomba

Okay, screw the whole "no custom buildings" thing, I'm creating some new landmark lots for governments and such. Oh, and adding palm trees to some ploppable buildings for the waterfront, hehehe...

Except for a download of the CN Tower, but I don't really plan on using that. Might BAT up some cool towers or something, though.
  11. Nolomba

Sorry for the double post, but I've updated the City One pics with both the traffic and satellite maps.
  12. Nolomba

Quick update: No new pictures, but City One is finished. Mainly because I don't have much more room and I'm out of money Will post more pics later!
  13. SimCity 4 in Wide Screen Mode

koman90: I'm afraid that the UI bar takes up more vertical room than your screen can handle... probably at another 24 pixels (therefore allowing folks in 800x600 to see the whole bar.) Thanks a bunch for this fix, I've been wanting 1440x900 resolution for a while now! Makes the game a LOT nicer-looking!
  14. Thanks for the info, folks. I've just been using the usual water treatment plants (they're expensive when you get a whole whack of them, but it's completely worth it!) and the "sludge" is gone! Woohoo!
  15. Thanks, I've been planting those in like crazy. They do seem to work a bit, but I guess I'll have to progress another year or so to see how it goes. Cheers, Troy
