Second in series of plop buildings construct mods. These are some *.dat files that will force all of the original utilities on the original Maxis lots to construct. It is eye candy only, and while the buildings are constructing they are still functional. This means that you can still build a power plant and it will immediately produce power. These are the buildings that will be constructed when you place the file(s) in your plugins folder. They are all 13 of the utilities as designated in the Reader: Power: Wind Power Plant Natural Gas Power Plant Coal Power Plant Oil Power Plant Solar Power Plant Nuclear Power Plant Hydrogen Power Plant Water: Water Tower Water Pump Large Water Pump Water Treatment Plant Garbage: Recycling Center Waste to Energy Plant IMPORTANT: This mod may not be compatible with a few other mods. More details are included in the Readme (I spent time on it, so read it). Thanks, have fun, and enjoy! Other Plop Buildings Construct mods by me -
Oh wow, this brings back memories. Over the past few years 2(?) of these projects have been suggested and I know one got relatively far until it came to the actual programming . It had its own website/forum. The driving reason behind at least one was the dissapointment that was SimCity Societies. Anyone care to remind me of what they were named? Looks like you have a good start.

New PC - how to play old region with new game installed
bri3d replied to NLPCPNL's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
It won't come up as the default region and you'll have to navigate to it in the drop down list upon getting into the game, if you haven't tried that. -
That's funny, Ndragonawa. Weird, but it's probably just the website making a prediction about a sequel. I've seen them do that before without real confirmation. So, the moral is: no one get your hopes up .

It's simple - just use the Home/End keys to rotate buildings before you plop . For zones, experiment with Shift, Ctrl, and Alt while holding down the mouse button (I can't remember which does what). NAM - short for Network Addon Mod - is a community-made mod that has been in development for years and is excellent at expanding your transit options and improving the transit simulator. In short: it's a must-have. More information and the download can be found here (make sure to read all documentation!). Welcome to SimTropolis!

I haven't played the SIms 3, but I'm planning to get it and have read about the neighborhood gameplay. In short the answer is probably yes, if it ever comes: a 3D city-builder from EA with Sims-like elements of gameplay (you can live in it too) that is a lot more realistic than Societies was. If EA could pull it off, they would make oogles more $$$. I'd have to disagree about the Sims 3, though: there's no way the game is capable of doing what Cities XL (in city-building) will do beyond making a small town. But the Sims and SimCIty definitely do continue to merge.

Really, no replies? It's an interesting game until you realize how pointless and unrealistic it is. I got it probably a year ago Christmas 2007, played it a few weeks and then off and on a bit, and then my computer crashed in May 2008. Never bothered to reinstall it because I didn't miss it. But now that my new computer has also crashed and I'm back to default again, I may reinstall and dig out my old cities again since I managed to rescue all my old files (whew). Just for fun. There is some depth in the game if you look for it. Don't go into playing it thinking you can go about the same way as all the previous SimCities, because, well, you can't. I wouldn't recommend buying it for the original $49.99 EA wanted for it originally. Maybe the $19.99 when it fell into the discount bins. But now that its value seems to have dropped as low as $2, it's worth it if your even a little curious.

New article (French, translated): http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&tl=en&u=http://www.gamekult.com/articles/A0000067973/ And new screenshots! I think the most important point is in screenshot #5 - buildings, not lots, with foundations!

Something you guys missed... (bottom left corner) Obviously, this is more proof they must have dug up textures, maybe even models, from SC3K.

Is there a seperated demand ordinance mod?
bri3d replied to ChaosEmerald's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
The Super Demand Mod is what ChaosEmerald was saying he didn't want. This might be of use, from a thread of ages past. Go down, a little less than halfway, to a post made by RippleJet on 1/06/07. You will find RJ - Super Demand Ordinances - Separated (Beta).zip at the bottom; download it and copy it into your Plugins. This separates the demand ordinances into individual wealth levels, but I'm afraid it still raises demand by about 500%. This is, however, a lot more specific than any other mod. Hope that helps, and you could take a peek in the files yourself to see if you can lower that 500%. -
I was skeptical with the poor sales, but I guess it would be an EA thing to do . They'll eek out every last penny. Maybe, $100 or more US dollars later, we'll have an ok game, although as common opinion, they should've at least had (even basic) air and water travel in the base game.

The first of many? Official Post at Simcity.com "Greetings Mayors! The first city pack for SimCity Societies has just been announced! SimCity Societies Destinations features new buildings, new types of cities, and a whole new strategic dimension: attracting tourist doll..." I know it's been brought up before, but notice how they call it a "city pack" and not an expansion. Sounds like something they might try to, ahem, duplicate...

Breaking News: Simcity Societies Destinations screenshots released. Which means, the game is featured on the official website. I might say what I think about the screenshots...but EA needs to get more bandwith on their server, because none of them will load . Go to simcity.com and (try to) check them out if you wish... "New City Pack filled with content and features coming soon! From unspoiled nature parks with campgrounds and hiking trails to tropical beach resorts with water sports and fine dining, from humble county fairs with hay rides and midway games, to sprawling modern theme parks with all the bells and whistles, you’ll build an entire city based on attracting visitors, and keeping them entertained and satisfied." Their brief description seems to indicate a large basis on tourism, and attracting guests, blah blah...it sounds more like some tourism tycoon than city building, but I'll probably end up buying it. I wonder what they will charge for (confirmed in picture captions) 100 new buildings (including UFO crash sites ) and 35 new special sims (including pilgrims and cult members )? Just my 2 cents... The pictues finally loaded; I'll link them so you don't have to go through that devastating flash: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

I believe this is in the right place. Lets hope so . I haven't been BATing too much lately (too many projects that never get finished, but I never post them on ST), but I was planning to replicate a development near my neighborhood based on the elevations and floorplans, in addition to photos, of a new Pulte Homes neighborhood. I have the brochure from visiting the model homes (I love to do that ), and also the website if I need it. But, my question is, is it really legal to directly copy from their plans? If this ever gets finished, I'd like to upload it to the STEX. This is the copyright statement from their website: "Copyright © 2007 Pulte Homes, Inc. All rights reserved. These materials are provided by Pulte Homes as a service to the public and are to be used for personal informational purposes only. We grant you permission to download this web site's content and to print a single hard copy for your use only. You may not otherwise use, copy, modify, distribute, republish, or transmit any of the content or materials from this web site without the written permission of Pulte Homes. You agree that if you violate this prohibition, you may be subject to all legal remedies available to Pulte Homes, and you will additionally be responsible for any other losses, attorneys' fees or costs Pulte Homes may incur as a result of your violation." I won't be using this for any financial gain, so...? Any input is appreciated. This seemed different from other BATs because of the use of currently selling plans. Thanks.

@hamsterTK - I agree. And the plans/elevations have no dimensions, so they are general guidelines. I was planning for them to be able to fit on a 1x1 tile, but just barely. I real life the homes are about 2900 to 4000+ sf. @Jasoncw - I read the BAT Mega faq a while ago, and I saw that article/post. Very useful stuff...
-
Wow, an overwhelming response in less than 2 hours. @dadyrghluv - I thought about that, and like you said, you never know. @ilikehotdogsalot - I doubt they will turn out exact, so accidental modifying will probably happen anyway... @Glenni - Point taken, I'm not selling it... @KingTitan - Hmm, I'm not sure I've seen much worry before, and I searched for threads. But I'm a natual worrier. @omnivoreceo - Lol, it is like free advertising to them. I like Pulte Homes too, the ones near me are really nice; start in the upper $500,000s...ouch. @krbe - So true - almost like a photograph of a McDonads restaraunt. @KingTitan - Thanks for all of the input (everyone), and your right, ST hasn't been sued. I will (attempt) to BAT again.

Wow! These have to be some of the best CL buildings yet! As the expansions have been released, they look more and more realistic. They are loosing their culture looks (Fringe, Elite, etc...), and that is both good and bad, I guess. Although I do know that last house belongs to the Elites, they have the fancy Victorian mansions. And I read in translated French that there are updated editors...I wonder if this means the in-game editor, the building editor, or both. Although good, they do have some bugs. The in-game crashes too much - even if you click ignore when a model isn't found, it will crash to desktop. Again, le_pirate, thanks for bringing us these screens. The issue of building repitition is finally going away. EDIT: If you have the French version of City Life (or City Life Deluxe), it looks as if you can download CL 2008 now HERE (translated). It probably will ask for some sort of product code from your current version of CL. More info HERE (translated). But again, its all French . Now when will they release the English translation for CL owners? Because I own CL:WE, so I get CL 2008 free .

I use that God Mode cheat quite often - I just hate how you can't control it well even with the SHIFT+1. Especially when trees end up in parking lots. Godiva has some great stuff; I'll check that out. But I meant for the palm trees to be ON the streets, which isn't possible in 2D networks .

The homes do look very sterile, and I've planted trees in similar areas. But I just got the lots to grow a few months ago (game time), and trees usually don't grow that fast . Although when the trees grow, Maxis lots can still look bare. Too bad the SAM doesn't allow street props currently...maybe network lots will be made better in next release, because I do miss the palm trees. It would probably be a matter of copying and pasting properties, but I don't like to mess with transit exemplars.

I'd say it's the best freeware city-builder yet, but I haven't tried them all. Decent graphics, zoning (only for residential though), and continuing development. I really like how the buildings construct - actually realistic, more so than SC4, which was pretty good. Here is the direct link. The whole thing is in the .zip, so no installation .
-
I keep getting more and more impressed...and the buildings are low-poly, too! SCS looks to have similar poly-count and those buildings can't even compare...it helps to use photo textures, I guess .
