How does one create a tapered cylinder thats wider at the bottom than it is at the top?
-
i'll post a pic in a sec. but the base should be easy, only 4 cylinders there. however above the first two rings are a series of 80 cones, each one a different diameter from the one above and below it. because i'm going to probrably be moving them up and down as I detail the base (which i happen to be doing right now, long labourous process...). it would be alot easier if i can move them as a single group, and the move function isn't that great when i highlight the whole bunch of them, its always a bit off. here is the picture, the yellow/gold is the bottom cylinders, the pink.purple up top are the 80 "disk" cylinders that are all a different diameter from each other. picture taken as I move each cylinder up 15 meters. the green thing at the bottom is part of my eventual base: btw - the pic. is 200meters wide by 1000 tall.

another question, how do I attach two cylinders? this is my first time working with shapes rather than soley splines. while I'm at it how do i attach shapes to splines?
-
agreed, cone has been easiest, thanks guys! was trying to go for a curved taper, 100 meter diamerter down to a 70 meter diameter over a 485 meter stretch. Used 4 cones, each being 121.25 meters.

yea, I was trying to create a 25 by 16 config with paint (I know I should use photoshop for this) And when I resized it so that it would fit the region, the colours must have merged. Anyways, this is what the region looks like and what the config file looks like. Could someone tell me how to do it right or be supreamely merciful and fix it themselves? Regionview: Config file (what a mess) : The region is 25 by 16 by the way.

In several regions I create for myself I've always ended up with cities completely separated by water. I've used ferries to connect them together, however many went over capacity. I've tried building highways to the edge of the map to get a bridge, but all I get is the red tile. Any suggestions?

I copied it to JPEG to host it. Imageshack doesn't like BMP from my compy, no matter the size. And how am I sure that I got everything down to the correct pixal widths?

What is NAM. Do I need it?

I could do that without nam, you sure about that? Path finding is the best part of nam. -
Show us your favorite skyline

Sydney is a beautiful city, reminds me of vancouver, but 300 feet taller. Only thing I think Sydney is missing is mountains. -
I'm hoping for the bright glass look. After awhile the city's just get to dark, dreary, and dirt, even if they have a top environmental rating and zero garbage.

Chairs are a tad to big. And are the raillings all the same size? compared to the railings at the very bottom and the very top the railings in the middle look like they are 3 meters tall, the others being 1 meter of course. Edit - door may be to big, I dunno if that what the real one will look like though. How big in-game will it be or are we not allowed to know yet?

go for landmark buildings you'll be able to tell apart from your furthest zoom or buildings that give you lots of industrial I$$ and I$$$ jobs / CS$ and CS$$ jobs. I also have to reccomend the WTC pack (is it a pack now?), I believe it should be in every region with a sizeable downtown as a personal tribute to those who lost their lives on 9/11. Your call though.

Millenium Tower VS Burj Dubai
Canadian Mind replied to JDRCRASH's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Below buri dubai is between 1000 and 5000 feet of sad with giant super porus facades of sandstone undernieth. they are pumping water into the holes to replace any lost oil. But if you stick enough weight over the top of it, either the sand will push our of the way and the building will sink, or the weight causes the porus sandstone to collapse, and the water is forced up into the sand, making the building sink due the the liquification effect of the ground. -

Any one want to take a bet that these super tall towers collapse because they are to heavy for the ground? -
Dude, isn't english bay at the mouth of false creek, between stanley part and UBC? Casue the science centre is at the end of false creek near the olympic village. I personally like number one, a possible improvement could be a darke beige or tan on the walls and a slightly blu-er tinge to glass (if possible)

Monorail/Elevated Rail Problems
Canadian Mind replied to houckola's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
In the name of efficientcy I use my monorail to get from industrial zones to residential zones and to interconnect my residential sones while I use subway to get from residential to commercial in small, closed network loops. -
T-cross doesn't work on avenews, it does with road though if you lay them down the right. How come I can't get turning lanes when a road crosses an avenew? Also, what the hell is the ANT for?
