I don't like how the avatar pane on posts is bigger, it looks out of proportion (but I guess this is just me getting used it), also it means I can only see 2 posts per page, even if those posts are one liners. Also the text in the reply/edit box is miniscule. And there's too much grey text on grey background (Eg Page 1 of 1, This post has been edited...), so if there was a little more contrast in some areas it would be even better. (In general the text feels too small, and the elements like posts and items on the STEX are too big) Other than those 3 cosmetic details, I think the new version is awesome!!! It looks really modern and now makes v6 look it was from the 1990s, even though a few days ago v6 looked great. So it's at at least double as good as v6

My favourite: Canary Wharf DLR station Not 100% modern, but the underground station (not exactly next to the DLR station but who cares) is very modern, with glass skylights that come through the ground into the park, glass everywhere and a small shopping centre attached, also it has those doors on the platform, which I love, because I dislike the feeling of being able to fall on the tracks, it looks cleaner, and you don't get the rush of air as the train pushes through the tunnel. But I prefer the DLR (Dockland Light Railway) part because it looks awesome, between the buildings either side and going over the docks/canal just before (and that I "drove" one of the trains when I was younger (normally it's completely computer controlled but the day I was on the train with my parents there was a driver manually "driving" it and he let me push the simple buttons to stop it, start it open/close doors, doesn't sound like much but it felt like I was in control of the world then )

Wow I'd love to live a city with that many skyscrapers, and organized like that. Obviously not 4 colours of buildings

When the internet switches to IPv6 will all the devices on my local network need to also be IPv6 capable/enabled? Or will my router be able to have it's address as IPv6 and then all my local devices have IPv4 addresses?

I think one thing that is important to this type of conversation is the result. A computer can speed through a logical algorithm much faster than a human. No doubt about it. However, a human mind evaluates more than just logical rules. We consider emotion, risk, and personal experience. That slows us down, but it also allows for us to be right when it does not "logically" make sense. Just a thought.quote> Your right, an example of this is in i robot, when will smith is in the car with the girl and the robot decides to save will rather than the girl.

Computing ability is very different to intelligence. Your [hym] signature even says that.

Computer's may need power but eventually we'll get computer controlled machines building things like solar panels and wind turbines without any intervention from humans. However you say that humans will eventually become unemployed, I don't doubt that that's coming, in fact I'm pretty sure that soon the only jobs will be artists and scientists. You also say that there won't be any point to living. If that's the case, when the computers become intelligent, what will be the point in them being intelligent? What will be the point from an intelligent computer's point of view to carry on being, to advance in technology? What would be the point? In order for computers to take over the world, we or computers need to know the meaning of life, that's not happening any time soon. Besides, the speed of a computer doesn't indicate it's intelligence. We haven't seen computers becoming more and more able to think for them selves, as we've developed them. Computers won't suddenly turn on the intelligence, a baby grows in intelligence, it will be similar. The computer in the article didn't compose that music: Later in high school he created a sophisticated pattern-recognition software program that analyzed the works of classical composers, and then synthesized its own songs in similar styles. quote> That computer didn't have the opinion that that pattern of notes was good, it could quite have easily churned out something that wasn't deemed good, it took several patterns of notes that were deemed good, and did something similar. Not anywhere near to composing from scratch. If computers do end up getting an intelligence, enough to compose music from scratch, then they will need their own personality, to determine what sounds good and what sounds bad, therefore each computer will need it's own personality, and if computers/robots have their own personality then they'll all want to look different, you won't get rows upon rows upon rows of identical metal robots, lining up doing things logically. People are already deciding that metal/more-mechanical computers won't be able to catch up with us. So if computers were to become intelligent, they'd have to be built biologically. Then what's the difference between that and a new species? When you combine the fact that computers will need to built out of similar stuff our brains are, and that they will need to have a personality in order to use their intelligence, you've just come up with an advanced human. Wouldn't that just be the next step in evolution? We are the only known organism to be this far along, we don't know what the next step is. OR So if we end up building these super-intelligent computers out of the same stuff we are made of, what's the point? if the initial point was to improve ourselves, we may as well make the modifications directly to ourselves. But all that depends on the "fact" that a faster computer means a more intelligent one? Intelligence involves making it's own decisions based on feeling/personality AND information. Speed won't give feelings and personality.

Your in a train there's one seat left and there's only one other person standing than you, an old woman, your both standing next to this chair, either one of your could sit down on it. The old woman doesn't because she doesn't want to take the last seat with someone else standing, but you don't know that. Do you: A) Take the seat. B) Ask the woman if she'd like the seat. C) Ask the woman if she'd like the seat, she takes too long so you just sit down. A nursing mother can get enjoyment out of watching her kids grow, and looking after them in the good times, so not necessarily alturism, Also some poorer cultures, you need to have children s they can look after you when you get old. Babies do not know that they want to survive. And they have no intent, not even the intent to walk or talk, it is the carer (mother etc) who has the intent for the baby to walk/talk/etc. IMO if a God promotes killing other people who are defenseless or purely because of where they are/what they believe (7/7 attacks on London, 9/11, etc) he is not worth anything, and if he turns out to be real then it's the same as on Earth, we know Barack Obama is real, doesn't mean he is right or necessarily a good person.

A Florida pastor wants burn the koran on 9/11 to remember the victims of disaster
warrior replied to fabricio83tst's topic in Current Events
To all those people who say that the president etc should not interfer, I'm sure you'd say the same after he burnt the Koran and someone decided to retaliate. -

Sorry I only said Muslim because this thread is about the Koran. I have friends of all different religions and they're all nice people so I don't mean any offence by my posts. My view Is still that the pastor shouldn't have thought about burning any holy book. -

warrior replied to fabricio83tst's topic in Current Events
oh sorry Hym, didn't think about that. Really all that's happened here is that 50 people said they were going to burn the Koran (and lets face it they weren't going to burn the last Koran on the Earth) then thousands of others across the world start burning flags, threatening Americans, chanting Death to Obama (when Obama is quite clearly against the burning, that hasn't or won't even take place), and at least one person has been killed. I know that it is their holy book and it means a huge lot to them, but doesn't anyone else think the reaction is slightly to much. 1 (or 50) person threatens to burn a holy book and suddenly every American is evil, yet when theres a terrorist attack we are constantly told that we must remember not all Muslims are Terrorists, unbalanced or what? -

Hym, Errm does potentially inciting acts of aggression towards American people count as anything. Simmaster07, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't get Christians burning Middle Eastern flags, shooting people and creating violent protests. Did you not see the picture with a person (presumably Islamic) holding a sign saying Death to Americans? He's not the only person who think exactly like that. I do think the Mosque in NY has been blown out of proportion, but to be fair if the owner was sensitive enough he wouldn't have bought the plot in the first place. I consider myself a Christian, but I almost want someone in the Middle East to consider burning a Bible and getting it public, and then see the reaction. -

So you americans are ok with some of the pictures here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-11251850 (the first and the fifth one) or are these people you want to respect: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-south-asia-11258739 realise that noone has actually burnt a Koran yet, and the people in the above video are burning flags, throwing rocks and chanting "Death to Obama", and 3 people have been shot in a protest. Sure there are people who are not like the above and would still be insulted by burn a Koran day and there will never make the news I don't think that the pastor should ever have done this, but I can see the initial reason why he thought about it, it seems he just didn't think far enough, he's already shot 3 people indirectly ("Three people were shot when a protest near a Nato base in the north-east of the country [Afghanistan] turned violent.") I hope severely that there isn't any Breaking News tommorrow... (btw, to make my opinion very clear, the pastor should never have even thought of this) -
The BLSMM Thread [now with DLL Loading!]
warrior replied to simmaster07's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
So DLLs would be able to create a window which shows before the game has loaded the plugins and asks the user if they want to use Diagonal bridges or not, and then depending on the answer disable or enable the terrain mod that is needed for them. btw, Buggi posted this a while ago, it is apparently part of the extra cheats dll source code (Buggi dissapeared gain before he posted anything more) https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=5376.msg169954#msg169954 -
The BLSMM Thread [now with DLL Loading!]
warrior replied to simmaster07's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Wow you guys got dlls to work!!!!. I'm not going to pretend to understand even half of what this thread is about, but do you think you could get the console (output) of the game to show up and work? There are a few commands which are accepted and don't CTD that look as if though give outout somewhere. The only other 2 people that have done anything like this are Daeley and GoaSkin, I'm not sure if they could be of help to you? -
This game is awesome, especially as it's online and offline and free. I believe they're just about to come out with a new version of the not-free version, which is why I haven't bought it yet.

SimMaster07 has made a very ingenious tool, the NAM Distribution Customizer. It is like an installer, except it is on the web, so it is platform independent and works on Mac. You go through choosing the options and at the end you download a zip which is made specially for you based on the options you chose. Then you just unzip the download to your plugins folder and you don't have to do anything to it. More information and a link to it is here: https://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=11561.0

A Fight on New York's Skyline
warrior replied to diamonddog_74's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Well if they conserved the skyline always, the skyline wouldn't be what it is today. The ESB will still be the ESB, and what it is today will stay the same. The ESB wouldn't be here at all, if people back then had gone on about the skyline back then and won. Conservation is important in things like nature reserves, but cities need to grow. I can't stand people who think towers like this shouldn't be built in places like New York, move on and deal with the loss of your skyline, loads people did before you, and thats the reason you have your precious skyline. It's lke the new High speedrail in he uk from London to Birmingham, imagine if in the Victorian times people hadn't laid railways, you'd probably stay in your village/town for most of your life (ie not commuting). What if people had protested against building power lines and won, you wouldn't have electricity. Personally I'd love to live in a house near a telephone mast (though not 2cm away from, at least 5m) because I'd get great phone signal, and I use my phone way more than I look out the window to admire the view. People who resist this type of change prevent advancement, and should move out if they don't like it, simple as. -
I think that it's insensitive of the person to even think of building it there. But I guess it would be unfair, and supposedly unamerican (I live in England btw) to force them not to build it. imho they ask the person to build it somewhere else, and just out of his humanity he should not build it, or at least build it somewhere else.. Really personally I think it says a lot that it was even planned. (however I don't agree with the politician using this situation and 9/11 in order to boost their campaign for NY Mayor or something)

There are warning lights and sensors that detect when a car that is under the bus gets too close to the side of the bus. Also there is a sensor that detects vehicles going into the back of it that are too tall and it sounds an alarm. And the lanes which the bus travels over have striped yellow and black "door ways" that are slightly smaller than the tunnel under the bus to prevent lorrys and such going on the lanes in the first place. if there's a fire or crash the side of the bus flap outwards allowing passengers to exit aircraft style (who knows what happens if theres a fire on a bridge (thers a bridge in the video) and the sides fall out, or the sides fall out onto another lane of traffic, likely smacking into the tops of the cars there. but I imagine there are sensors to prevent them falling onto something) From the video it looks like the buses travel slower than the traffic, however thats faster than the endless stream of standing busses that were pictures in the video. If theres a fire at an intersection where the bus can't move It could be linked into the traffic signals which stop all the traffic at the intersection to allow the buses to move out the way. Or they could go backwards.Or even have fire extinguishers on the roof of their "tunnel".

Missing Sunspots Make Scientists Think Sun is Changing
warrior replied to Follarch's topic in Current Events
So that's where the whole aligning of the planets and galaxys comes from. If all the planets and our galaxy or somethign were to line the gravity would be stronger against the Sun so it any CME towards us would be pulled stronger. How far south will people be able to see the lights ion the sky from this CME (or has it already happened), ie in the uK?
