SimCity (5) System Requirements
BurroDiablo replied to JoeOh's topic in SimCity (2013) Technical Help Q&A
Currently I have Win7 x64, 3Ghz AMD Phenom II x4, 8GB DDR2 RAM, XFX HD6850 1GB. This should be able to handle SC5 with minimal lag, but I've been looking to upgrade my Motherboard and Processor, I was also looking into Crossfire-ing my GFX card with a HD6870, but I discovered a while back that my Motherboard is only SLI compatible, this is why I'm planning on getting a new one. -
Discussion about City Tile Size
BurroDiablo replied to alex macnamara's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Well, they'd be foolish not to let us have larger cities, especially those of us with more powerful rigs... it couldn't hurt to give us choices of how big we want our cities to be, even if they're the pre-set 1x1, 2x2, 4x4 sized tiles a la SC4. Having to enter & exit cities to produce a large, seamless metropolis will get tiresome when the cities become larger and loading times increase... it's harder to control a city in this manner; I know when I'm playing smaller cities in SC4 that if you build up one 2x2 city, you can go over to the next and build a second, then you can switch back over to your first city and within minutes you'll have Residential tower blocks popping up which can put a large amount of strain on a small citys infrastructure. Brings the money in, but you'll often find yourself demolishing quite a bit just to accommodate new infrastructure.- 1,284 Replies

Snow (and weather in general) This was originally going to be Tundra/Arctic, but I would like all kinds of different terrain types in SC5. Snow would be harder to mod into the game than a simple terrain texture change with some custom fauna, so I would like falling and lying snow to come with the base game. Waterfalls Not absolutely necessary, but would be nice Less compact Power Plants... I love my industrials, and I'd like to see Power Plants look slightly more robust than the tiny things you got in previous SimCity's. -
Personally, I'm fine with Landmarks, I've never felt they cluttered the menu. If somebody wants to build a real-world city or just use them to boost demand, I wouldn't deny them that opportunity. Currently we can only talk from a SC4 player perspective, we don't know what the UI will look like or operate like (although we can have a guess...)... obviously the overall UI in SC5 should be more accessible and it probably will be, I mean, even a scroll bar would have improved SC4's UI ten fold.

User Technical Level Survey
BurroDiablo replied to A Nonny Moose's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I'm no programmer (I suffer from mild dyscalculia) but I can and have built my own system, although I probably won't be doing this for SC5 as my current PC is well over the minimum system requirements displayed on Origin. I'd also like to learn how to mod the game on an implementation/exporting level, but I already know how to use several 3D & 2D programes. -
A nice thick manual
BurroDiablo replied to LivingInThePast's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
You are correct. http://www.spore.com/what/spore_ge Now if only maxis could do a similar offering for simcity Spore was released in 2008, EA stopped printing manuals March last year. So as I said before, as nice as a reaaaaaaaally thick manual would be, It's probably not going to happen. -
Those of you who are apprehensive or negative about SimCity
BurroDiablo replied to Clonk's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
100% agree, the kneejerking is out of hand. We may be on edge and skeptical after the Societies and Cities XL debacle, but I personally have faith in Maxis. Every Sim City they have made has turned out to be absolute gold and a vast improvement on the last... and even though I'm not expecting something better than SC4, i'm at least expecting something on par with it. The Multiplayer aspect doesn't worry me at all, it might turn out to be fun (more fun than the PO at least) and hopefully any of the MP aspects leaking into solo mode will have a limited impact. -
A nice thick manual
BurroDiablo replied to LivingInThePast's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Last boxed game I bought was BF3... was totally pointless, even that with the disk I still needed to download it from Origin. Being an EA game, it didn't come with a printed manual (came with 2 small slips of paper about gun clubs or something). If there is a full move to digital distribution, I would like to see some savings passed on to customers. SC5 Deluxe is shipping at £65! Probably be the most I'll spend on a PC game in a decade... but that's only if SC5 lives up to expectations, there's a small chance I won't be parting with my money at all. -
Lets put all those Multiplayer worries to bed...

In Reddit Ocean Quigley just replied to a question with this... So there is most definitely a solo mode, and there is NO forced multiplayer. -
A nice thick manual
BurroDiablo replied to LivingInThePast's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
EA stated a while ago that it wanted to substitute all printed manuals with digital versions instead. I think they have already started doing this. So yeah, this is a pipe dream. -
Lets put all those Multiplayer worries to bed...
BurroDiablo replied to BurroDiablo's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Ocean already stated that Glassbox has been built with modding in mind, Maxis understand the modding needs of the community in order to keep the game fresh for a good few years. The 'the economic landscape that they’re operating in will be shaped by the actions of other players' quote could be attributed to some kind of in-game market element where you can trade resources with other regions even if you're playing solo. Of course, that just a guess, but as he has stated you can definitely build a region by yourself without any outside interference in your city building... I think whatever 'economic' elements he's talking about that carry over from Multiplayer will probably have minimal impact on the overall 'soloing' experience. -

That's just a single reply for me, all their responses will be here - http://www.reddit.com/user/maxis/comments/ I'm not familiar with Reddit so I'm not sure how to view the comments they replied too, but the responses so far speak for themselves. edit: Ninja'd by Croxis -

Sim City 5 or Sim City Societies 2?
BurroDiablo replied to spicytimothy's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Yeah, Ocean Quigley tweeted that they were going to showcase an early version at Inside the Glassbox, and a few tweets I've read from people attending say Glassbox 'looks great', but there's nothing on how the new game functions, probably because it's currently too early in development to make any final judgements. -
Fully Featured Solo Offline Play Mode
BurroDiablo replied to Gamma Stardust's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I have no issues with it having to be online all the time, 'Online Only is' not the same as 'Multiplayer Only', having to be constantly hooked up to the internet will be DRM security bs. However, in the event that the game is Multiplayer Only, I will not buy it. Simple as. If Sim City 5 wants to remain fresh, it needs the ability to be modded the hell out of, and this cannot be provided by a multiplayer only game. -
Sim City 5 or Sim City Societies 2?
BurroDiablo replied to spicytimothy's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
'Online Only' will be a DRM thing, similar to Spore or Anno 2070... Anno had expansive singleplayer and Spore was all singleplayer. So 'Online Only' =/= 'Multiplayer Only'. As for modding, we'll just have to wait and see... I don't see anything that suggests modding is impossible, multiplayer won't be forced either, although you won't be able to play online with them. Hopefully SC5 has an in-game Mod Manager like Men of War, where you can select to have mods enabled or not. This was make it 1000 times easier to shift between singleplayer with mods and multiplayer without. That said, Multiplayer with mods would be beyond awesome, if the mods enabled in the region were automatically downloaded and installed in a similar way to modded Counter Strike servers. -
The whole environmental bent worries me
BurroDiablo replied to LivingInThePast's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I like the resources aspect, although I hope its implemented better than in CXL, I'd prefer a simplified Anno system. As for the environmental aspect, I don't think it will play a massive part, no more than any other SC game, I mean, Pollution in SC has always had a negative impact on the surrounding area, in SC4 it effected desirability, in SC3K it affected the aura, in SC5 it'll affect your Sims health and will probably make your city less desirable/lower value, but I highly doubt you will be forced at gun point to clean your city up by some eco-despotic game element like in Anno 2070. -
For a sandbox game like Sim City, single player is guaranteed. To add, if there was no single player, there would be no offline mode.

Thousands of hours put into custom content and mods...
BurroDiablo replied to Hellken's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Nothing for SC4 will work in SC5, but as long as BAT'ers have kept their base models in formats that work with 3DsMax, they should be able to export them over to SC5 (hopefully, if it supports mods.) -
Installed SC4 again But can't find the time to play it

Speculation on the veracity of various early announcements
BurroDiablo replied to hamsterTK's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Was just at the 3DsMax mock-up stage in that image - They're probably about there with SC5 if all they have currently are stills of concepts/mockups. Although I hope they'll have some great stuff to show off on Wednesday that can be sneaked out of GDC to the rest of us mere mortals.
