Pine Valley

This busy town with its 25.000 residents is one of the educational hubs of the Mountainview region. Since we've arrived in the middle of the night, the full tour will start after a good sleep... 0600 - Rise and Shine... :-) The scenic spot where you hopefully checked in last night We start a bus tour here Downtown - from City Hall, Banks and Offices to the PinValley Mall Into the residential district Numerous small parks and playgrounds are connected with meandering bike paths Pine Valley Elementary School...

A small city of about 15000 centered around some industry and commerce - mainly food processing, lumberyards, lumber shipping, small commercials etc... Overview Small industrial complex, residential section and small scale commerce slowly turning from low to medium wealth... Eastside... The Eastside lumberyards... The waste to power plant... Strong land- and river-based fire protection for the industrial zones... Small locks... The 'Family Inn' at the southern river branch... A memorial park to all the...

Southern Belle

Though this is mainly an agricultural town, tourism has brought in lots of different business opportunities... Join me for a stroll around the area :-) First of all a huge Greyhound Terminal... On the left a small hotel, on the right the former St.Cathrine Chapel which now serves as a museum... More hotels and cottages... Just the place a family would want to take the kids for a weekend... Moving on we reach the more residential areas... The fishpen hands apparently got bored and started digging - nobody...

PineView Neighborhoods

Still in the vicinity of Junction City we also find rather lowkey neighborhoods as well as more beautiful scenic spots... Should I stay or should I go? Most of these folks are not so sure yet... Following the river we see some people are already sure... that they found their own little paradise... Family Resorts and Ponds - just the place a family would want to take the kids for a weekend... Hope you brought towels... ;o)

That's how long the logging industry and related enterprises have dominated life and work in Mountainview... Other industries, e.g. Ore Mines or Rock Quarries have tried to gain a foothold as well, but no business is as deeply entrenched in Mountainview as TLC... by now the original logging concession and sawmill with its associated maintenance and transfer yards have expanded to include numerous commercial enterprises like lumberyards, supply centers and more, providing a wide range of job opportunities...

Off the coast there are many little islands, some of them with interesting features ... Small Pleasure island Castle Rock - an educational tourist trap Church on the Rocks Lighthouse Rock Memorial Rock - to all those lost at sea Finn's Paradise Hope you didn't get seasick ;o))

So at long last we reached the waterfront! Below us we see the small northern container port... a fishing fleet at anchor... on our way down past the new media center... we pass this huge construction site... where old buildings are torn down to give way for new ones... a small break bulk dock... a tiny marina for the not-so-rich... and after a rather smelly experience... the marina for the very rich... strolling along the boardwalk... looking at all those beautiful yachts... and the fine old shops......

This is an industrial sector dedicated to fishing, freight distribution and boat maintenance. It also had a pretty challenging terrain feature - the main (southern) basin lies a bit lower than the rest of the land and waters in the north... coming in from the south (swing bridge) all boats with business up north need to go through the locks in the SE corner. After seeing the last Challenger mission taking off... Mountainview Region considered to put up its own space program. It quickly became evident that the tremendous costs cannot be shouldered by such a small region... and the residents were not all that happy with the presence of all those military types, the tight security checkpoints all over the place and the influx of shady characters, as well as the wholesale damage to nature... So this program had to be cancelled even before the first scheduled...
