Construction Site Report 3

Hello to All!

Another construction site report instead of an update ... and a Bad News.

The reason why I was able to restart Urland about one year ago was the release of Windows 7 beta / Windows 7 RC. On XP during an update the soundcard driver was updated, since then SC4 is CTD whenever your plop something or zoom / scroll too much. I tried to reinstall the original driver but with no success. Either I am not clever enough to replace the sound card driver properly or it is another problem.

In 2 days the lifetime of Windows 7 RC as a prerelease will be finishing and it will start to close automatically in intervalls that will become shorter and shorter untill it finally won't start up again. This means the end of my Sc4 activities because I simply don't have the money to buy Windows 7 not to speak of a new pc. Maybe I am going to get SC4 eventulally working on XP again but at the moment it does not look like this at all.

I'll have some more or less older not shown material from the last month that may become some updates, and I think I'll get that promised update going, but the future of Urland after the next two or three months is not certain at all...

Anyway - here is the

Construction site report

I confess, concerning LE etc. I am rather ... lazy. If not necessary I prefer to play the game with what I got. But sometimes you got some corners that just won't fit together...  15.gif

CS3.01: Not the expected results

And after hours and hours in Reader and FiSHman and PaintShop and SC4Tool and LotEditor and LEProp and Reader, just when you finished that necessary dozen lots and plopped it where they should be ...

... then you see that you need a new terrain mod as the current one just ate up all your work ...

And not only this, the No-jagged-diagonal-edges isn't working as expected, too! 15.gif  Most probably one day I have to make me my own ...

CS3.02: A positve Effect of the water texture bug

Sometimes even the watertexturebug has it good side: at least you can see what I did today ...

And: the grid is on becouse these are technical shots! 30.gif

CS3.03: The final (?!?) result

Well, the (recent?!?= final results. I may do some more terraforming and finetuning here ...

CS3.04: From another angle ...

From another angle it looks better as the wood has mercy to hide the worst corners ...

CS3.05: Overview

An overview. If you went up the river a bit at the ride side of the picture you'd see the water power plant I just burned recently  in the Simforum Picture Competition.

CS3.03: Another Construction Site

Another patient: THIS IS NOT A CONIFEROUS WOOD! At least it doesn't look at all like the Blackforrest wich isn't bay far not that ill that you would see the sun-sensitive trunks!

Unfortunately real nice MayorMode Coniverous trees are rather rare ...

And for the sake of completeness the picture from the Simforum Picture Competition:

A Competition Picture

Initially I wanted to use this map for the SC4Devotion village competition but with my concept I finally got 5000 inhabitants ... anyway ...

Ok, while I was writing this the final backup is running.

Take care my friends!

Those rural shots look great. It must take forever to plop all that stuff.

Thanks.
And well, it does not take forever however ... well ... chances that I ever might be able to become the world's fastest city builder are below zero ...

We really needed more realism in SimCity4, everyone's agricoltural areas should look like yours. Realism brought to the max like it.

hello everyone,

i m a newcomer to the simtropolis and the game. please help me pull through the game!

i saw the thread starter's city with a river, a dam, and one or two locks
and there are 2 valley icons in the god mode, but the outcome isn't impressive enough as a river. How can i lay down a river on the map?
there is a waterway icon in previous installments, i remembered. did they just re-arange the icon layout?
and where can i get the dam and lock?

second, i installed NAM 2009 (NetworkAddonMod_June_July.zip), it add up a few road types, and claims to make drivers smart.
then i now found no car on roads, but there are many gridlocks on the graph, still. is it normal that enhancement is good  enough so sc4 didn't show any traffic? i remember standard pathfinding is installed and at least 12, 000 cars in the city.

long for your help!

Ryan

@Daan300: Thanks for the compliment!

@cisco2: Well, you know, I am working on them since 2004.
On the other hand if all agriczltural areas liked like mine it would be a bit boring. And: My way of building is middle-european. In other areas of this world it looks different.

@aryan:
1. For the river I used valley, fast levelling, softening and some mayor mode technics (Grey--streat-levelling). hard to dscribe in a few words but only valley making just don't do it, never did anyway.
2. For my small rivers I use any kind of ploppable water available - transparent as well as non-transparent. There are quit some of them and all of them are Mayor Mode tools.
3. For the dam and the lock search Pegasus on the STEX.
4. Do you have details set High in the game setup?
5. A green belt reduces pollution but may not block it completely.
