22. The birth of a new city
Alpine City has launched its most ambitious reclamation project yet - to take a large area out of the Great Lake and make it into usable land. On top of this new land, a modern city will be established. This will be a costly project, and will span several years.
The first phrase of the project is to define the extent of reclamation.
The reclamation will begin from the tip, in order to keep the fishery industry along the coastline of Tenpine going for as long as possible. At this stage, not much happens in the Tenpine area.
Further fill up of the Great Lake as years go by. At this point, we need to vacate Tenpine, remove all the forestry and fishery buildings, before the land masses are joint together.
Forestry industry has been a century-long traditional industry for Alpine City. It is considered also an important economic drive, hence the it shall be preserved and relocated. The fishery industry is not so lucky though, and this new project will indeed means the end of it.
Years prior to the demolition of Tenpine, the area of Sunrise Summit is cleared out of all residents, as the area is sited as the new location for Forestry Industry.
This will be the third time the entire mountain is cleared out and change its use. A century ago, it first was developed into a tourist town. For decades after, it has become a residential area. Now, it changes again into forestry industry area. All the residence are relocated to Newgrounds.
While Sunrise Summit's residence are all relocated, the industry area do require public transportation for workers. The existing Newgrounds Cable Car Line is already pointing at Sunrise Summit, and can be extended to connect the area easily. Another cable car line is built further to the east (Sunrise Summit Line) to transport workers from Newgrounds up to the mountain.
After several years, the forestry industry has been re-established on Sunrise Summit.
The two cable car lines are also extended to Sunrise Summit. The road from Sunrise Summit now connects directly to the underground highway network at Newgrounds, used solely for industry exports.
With the forestry industry relocated, finally Tenpine is freed up. Now it becomes part of the new land - and part of the future new city.
In the next entry, we will begin on the infrastructure construction on the vast new land.
