Valley Park
Valley Park
100,000 Sims
The experimental city. Valley Park began with significant plotting of roads.
The metro heart (pictured above) was framed by a one-way border road which connected to the avenues transiting through the town South to North. Inside the frame, a grid was made, then a central square with diagonal streets cutting up the grid.
The result? It's alright. Looks like advertising art for the game from 2003, I think.
One possible advantage was it did partially contain the commercial center, rather then it sprawling along the major roads in every direction.
This was my first university town. Really glad I got that modular university pack now, but this wasn't a terrible effort at it.
There is a outlier to the downtown, as a freeway cuts across the far southwest corner of the map. Rather then try to bring the freeway to the downtown, I created a satellite center around an airport and expo center. Nothing special, but I like ordinary and expected. Helps to make the cool stuff POP.
Lots of traffic led to this rather elegant mess at a roundabout west of downtown.
I like looking at it from on high. But you could not pay me to negotiate it in a car.
