Introduction
It's time now, that I have a little time, and in my 11th year on this Exchange (I "became age 10" last year at the end ofNovember), that I'll try my hands on a city journal. Some impressive stuff has been going on here, and I'll try my best to keep up with the quality, although it's difficult...
First of all, let's have a look at the region in its pure, virginal state. I'm playing on an enlarged version of the good old Timbuktu, I downloaded it several years ago and can't remember anymore where
. This is the region map (I already modified one city to the north-east, I couldn't find a completely untouched version anymore):
I should note that I've already been playing on this region for many years, but I never had time to make a city journal. Recently, however, certain circumstances we are all suffering from (stupid COVID) gave me a little more time. I should also note that this map comes in 7x7 large city tiles, so it's easy to plan, and I'm giving every city coordinates - more about that below.
Unfortunately, as I already reported here, a really stupid mistake on my part messed me up, so I now either have to fix it or completely start over my region. What happened, in short: I accidentally deleted an important resource file for growable buildings while I've already grown a good amount of them. Thus, I can't play anymore until I fix this. I've been able to fix the lost files, but since I don't have a clue about the stats of the building files associated with the lots, I can only guess if I did it the right way.
This table shows how many cities have been affected (this means there are already some lots pointing to the lost and now restored building exemplar files) and how strong. I made this table to help myself making a decision whether to try to fix a city and risk mesing up a few pollution values, or just restarting it. The two cities with underlined names need to be restarted anyway; they have been the only cities saved in the state and thus have "ghost residents" everywhere.
Conveniently, this table also shows the coordinates and the names of the cities. The next picture is a region overview of how Maxiland looked after years of development, and just after the mistake I made has been found out. It should be noted that I terraformed many city tiles, but the region itself should be recognizable.
Now a few words about my playing style:
- I'm unfortunately horribly lazy when it comes to making detailed scenes - especially with MMP's. I've been struck with the nasty double-click bug that some users already reported. I can work around it by pressing the left mouse button while simultaneously holding the right mouse button pressed, but it's tedious. Besides - I'm simply lazy.
- I don't like in-game water. It's always at the same level. I like valleys because they make up some challenges. I'm using ploppable water wherever I can, and create my bridges by altering the sea level with Reader, or by using viaducts, and sometimes ploppable fake bridges.
- If you see some new lot you've never seen before, this most likely means that I created and never share it. Some are pretty specific, so I never shared them.
- I'm trying to give every area of my CJ a bit of a unique style and look so not everything looks the same.
- I don't know much about photo editing. And I suck at making graphics of all kind.
- I'll try to stay somewhat realistic, but I'm not willing to sacrifice an entire large city tile to make an airport.

All city and village names are in German. Just wanted to try that
. Of course, I write everything else in English. Also, sometimes, I'll put more than one settlement on a city tile - after all, these are only large city tiles, and very few large cities are planned.
Next time: We'll start at B7 Michaelshaven, one of the cities I need to wipe out, anyway. I'll start there because I want to know if it's worth the hassle wiping out and starting from scratch.
