Information on Banished

This post is going to cover some basic information on the game and where you can download mods, I have been playing Banished since it came out in 2014 and while my first love will always be SimCity, this is the game I usually play at the end of the day when I just want to relax before going to bed.

I've got both the Steam and GOG versions (you can also buy it from Shining Rock Software) and its definitely worth checking out all three versions if you do decide to buy as the prices can differ quite a bit

Steam = NZ$ 23.99, GOG = on sale at the moment for $4.99 and Shining Rock is $19.99

Its unfortunately only available as a Windows game, but that isn't a major problem these days, in my case as my computer operating system is Linux Mint I use Crossover to run it.

Before we get onto downloading mods for the game, for those people that are actually interested in modding the game you first need to download and install this program from the Shining Rock website

http://www.shiningrocksoftware.com/mods/

Banished has been designed so you can mod the vanilla game, create mods and change existing mods, something you will notice if you download a mod is a lot of the Banished modders will provide two files, the first one is the PKM file and this is the file you want to add to your Mod folder, the second is the RSC file ... do not add this to your Mod folder as it will crash your game if you do, the modder has provided it so you can change the mod language, etc ....and then it has to be recompiled as a PKM file .... Sorry I'm not a modder so there is no point asking me how any of this works.

Onto mods for the game, worth reading is this article

https://www.strategygamer.com/articles/banished-mods/

One of the mods it refers to is MegaMod I would seriously recommended you only install this mod if you have a really decent computer as its 5GB in size, am attaching the mod list to this post for those people who want to know what's included in it.

Most of the Banished websites are covered in the article, but I'll list them anyway

https://www.nexusmods.com/banished/?

https://www.blackliquidsoftware.com/forum/

http://worldofbanished.com/

This website is responsible for the "The North" mod, which is sort of viking based

http://www.banishedventures.com/

it is possible to combine it with other mods and they have done a compatibility list

https://www.banishedventures.com/compatibility/

Can't think of anything else at this stage, as my computer can't run Megamod in my next post I'll cover what mods I'm going to be downloading
