This is the latest region shot please refer to this for the following update shots - I will post clockwise, starting with Mt Albert.

Hauraki-040707.jpg

MountAlbert100667.jpg

Mount Albert is home to yet another of Auckland's Volcanic cones, and our Prime Minister, in RL...

MountAlbert-Oct.jpg

This is a mainly wealthy, residential and commercial suburb, with just a small amount of HT industry in the top left corner.

Devonport-Nov.jpg

A first peek at Auckland's North Shore.  Still a fairly young SC suburb, but it gets the honour of hosting Auckland's harbour bridge.

[Had to do some sneaky terraforming to get it joined on...]

Home to two more of Auckland's volcanic cones, Mt Victoria and North Head.  Cheltnam is the small community to the top right.

Devonport-Nov-1.jpg

This bridge is not quite in the right place or design but is the closest, Maxis equivelent.  It is shown here as an Avenue however in RL it forms part of the Northern Motorway.  In this shot the motorway extends northwards from the bridge.

Devonport-Nov-2.jpg

In the top left corner (looking east) is the small beginnings of a new suburb, Glenfield.

Devonport-Dec.jpg

The suburb of Devonport itself.  Still has a village like atmosphere in RL.  A passenger ferry operates in RL between Devonport and the Auckland CBD.

Devonport-Dec-1.jpg

A closer view of Devonport's two volcanic cones.  Mt Victoria to the left and on the peninsula, North Head.  North Head in RL still retains many of the World War Two, bunkers and gun enplacements - they took the threat of invasion very seriously, even though it never happened.  In fact Auckland's waterfront is still dotted with old WW II concrete gun emplacements - mostly overgrown but remain as a reminder of a different time.

Pakuranga-Oct.jpg

The latest shot of Pakuranga.  Mostly high wealth homes, commercial and just a small pocket of HT industry.

Manukau-May.jpg

On another large tile to the south is the sister city to Auckland, Manukau City.  The Southern Motorway runs north / south through the centre, as the does the main trunk railway.

Manukau-Jun.jpg

A closer view looking south.  The suburb in the bottom right corner is Papatoetoe.  Three NOB waste to energy plants on the right hand border - they are working flat out to help dezone the landfill.  (The three plants working at max, remove about 1 tile of landfill every 5-10 seconds in cheetah mode...)  the last few landfill squares are proving a little stubborn...  26.gif  We shall persevere...

Manukau-Jul.jpg

Due to my slightly over hilly region, (as is now well established - 21.gif as a fact of this CJ... thank you very much... you are all beautiful people 19.gif), ...

I have terraformed  a plateau at the end of the Tamaki River.  This suburb in RL is Otara, Auckland's poorest, but in this city it is turning out to be quite desirable.   There is no port in the RL version, but it certainly helps in the game.  The hilly ridge to the left of the motorway does exist in RL, it is Manukau Heights.

Manukau-Aug-1.jpg

Power pylons are a common feature of the RL Manukau.  We don't paint them red and white though...

Manukau-Aug.jpg

A couple of closer shots of Papatoetoe (Manukau City).

Otahuhu-Apr.jpg

I have posted pictures of Otahuhu before, but there have now been some significant changes...  The farms, and dirty coal power stations are gone.  An"A_Nonny_Moose Anti-Matter power station" is now providing the bulk of the Auckland region's power.

The Southern Motorway has now been built, not quite in the right RL place - for the realistic police...  (RL further to the right...) but this was the least painful place to build it with out having to demolish half the suburb...

Otahuhu-May.jpg

Otahuhu is now becoming quite a desirable area due to its strategic location on the Auckland Isthmus.  (This is also true of the RL Otahuhu.)

Favona-Dec.jpg

The last shot is of Favona, looking south.  It is a poorer suburb to the right of Otahuhu (looking south) and is home to a landfill that services the greater region.  This is likely to be the last landfill, in the greater region as I have now invested in better methods of dealing with garbage - Mr NOB has been most helpful.

Next update I will return to to the main Auckland tile itself, there has been quite a bit progress there as well, but it can have an update all to itself...

Author's Commentary:

Well there is a bit of a mixture here...   Otahuhu and Pakuranga are not looking too bad, but there is plenty of griddy goodness in Manukau and Mt Albert.

Griddy goodness...  Ya think?  :P

I see you also had trouble resisting the urge to stick something in the volcano crater.  :P  I just fill mine up with trees anymore.
