Minister of Culture: Today we are celebrating the Bicentenary of the birth of an illustrious figure of Papireto, the architect Ignazio Purgante (1814-1897) , the creator and designer of one of the largest squares of our city, Piazza del Popolo.

After the proclamation of independence on 17 March 1861 and the constitution of the Republic of Macondo , the architect Ignazio Purgante gave to the city of Papireto this beautiful square that is still visited by thousands of tourists.

Among his works are the twin churches , the staircase entrance to the city park of Pancio , the two fountains mirror and the input port of the ancient city .
