Update 21: The Cardinal Roads
Originally posted Dec 11, 2010.
Update time! Today, we go into a nationwide project. It's called the Cardinal Roads Initative, and it's designed to bring the country closer together. Since the country is only so big right now, is doesn't seem to make sense why these roads are needed right now. The next story update may answer that question.
The Cardinal Roads idea springs from Britain. As I said in a previous update, the Commonwealth gets inspiration from America, as well as the UK. The concept was to have roads branch out in every direction from the capital, to stretch to the 8 corners of the country. Here's the plan below. The roads are called Great Roads (i.e. Great South Road). What's built now is solid white, what's under construction, dotted lines.

The roads start here in this circle called Origin Square.

The Great North, West, East and South Roads were already built to an extent, so all there was left was to build the intermediate roads.
The Great SW and SE roads were the hardest as they tore through already established development and both had to use existing roads to get out of the city.

The Great East Road had one big obstacle in its way, the capitol's central station, which was directly in it's path. It goes around it now, but there are plans in the future to possibly tunnel under the station.

The Great Northwest and Northeast Roads were easier as they had no development in the way

The Great Northwest Road even had development spring up around it.

It stands to see whether these roads are a success.
So I leave you with a shot of Origin Park with labelings of all 8 Great roads......

And a pic of the National Gardens in the northwest quadrant of the park.

I hope you enjoyed the update....
Cheers!![]()
